Not true! There was no bill switch involved at all! Beforehand, he tore a piece of $ which he pocketed. When he performed it, he used his own $ and actually did make the 1st 2 tears (above Washingtons head and below his portrait) and faked the last tear where he "removed" the piece (he really just folded it back). He retrieved the pre-torn piece made before the performance, showed that he was 'mending' the bill but actually just undid the earlier fold, palmed the gimick and held the $ taught.
