James Earl Jones's Thulsa Doom is the most under-appreciated movie villain of all time. I always thought his complete indifference to human life was far more menacing than the tack taken with most villains. If this hadn't been a sandal-trod fantasy/action movie starring Ah-nuld, Thulsa Doom would be ranked right up there with Hannibal Lecter as one of the greatest villains in the history of film.
Done so well that if someone had not seen either movie, and watched this clip, they would have had no idea the dialogue had been altered (except for slight static noise in a few of the lines).
"where is the EYE of the SERPENT?! " Luke looks at him as if he was completely insane... you know, you hear a crazy person you look at him with contempt and say something like "yeah,sure...everybody is Napoleon" and walk away with prudence.
0MrWh0: Thanks Crom, but I gotta differ with you, just a little. I always figured Doom was metaphorically referring to the Human Will when he said, "Flesh Is Stronger!". Recall too he called that woman to fall off that cliff, too...which I suppose would make RELIGION stronger than steel, too.
No telling what the answer was, really, per Conan's Dad, but I'd like to think Thulsa's answer would have been the fathers answer.
At the end, Conan's steel defeated Doom after Doom tried to bend his will ie flesh. Not sure what to make of that but I suppose you could look at it either way.
i know, in Empire Strikes Back Vader's snake was in the wing of the X-wing. the one that Luke removed before taking off. he probably killed it when he turned on the ship and flew away.
And both movies were so great that they have a formidable cult following that lasts to this day. Conan has also survived since the 1930s, when its comic series was first published. Both are classic movies that will live on :)
I see your point, although Vader is hardly an archetypal hero!
Thulsa Doom had the menace of a being that had lived for centuries with enormous power, wherein good and evil no longer had boundaries. His obsession with steel marked the knowledge of his own demise and his need to bend the will of others through force in order to survive. In contrast, Vader's predicament was largely driven by knowing the demise of others.
"Between the time when the oceans drank Atlantis and the rise of the sons of Aryus , there was an age undreamed of and onto this CONAN destined to bear the jeweled crown of Aquilonia upon a troubled brow...It is I, his chronicler, alone who can tell thee of his saga. let me tell you of the days of high adventure!" ...OSU!!! (KARATE EXPRESSION)

Thats not bad, that Eye of the Serpent line could've worked actually, because in the first so-called expanded Universe story "Splinter of the Mind's Eye"(actually supposed sequel), Vader battles Luke and laia over the Kaiburr crystal
