I don't really get the appeal about this song. My Finnish friends who also like Eurovision and appreciate the older songs don't like it either. It seems too humdrum and everyday to them, and I'm not really liking the sound.
I like Katri Helena, she is really adorable. If someone has her version of "Joulumaa" (Christmas land), now that brings so many memories to my mind. A lovely story of Christmas land that one will find within himself, if one just stops to search carefully, sang with her clear voice. Please someone, post this if you have it!
We Finns always complained it´s our impossible language that prevents us succeeding, but how about Hebrew? Besides, numerous times we did perform in English, so... Despite a few truly horrendous songs, I believe it´s just our remoteness once again that played the biggest part in our sordid record for so many years.
Efharisto ja ta evjenika su lojia, Taso :) I think too this is one of our best entries. Ossi Runne made almost every song to sound better live than studio. The part from 1:36 always gives me goosebumps.
Excellent use of Greek - hyvä! (hope I got this right) And, yes, indeed, I would also rank this among your best-ever entries, and also your most underrated.
Yep, that's the right word! Ήμουν έξι εβδομάδες στο θερινό Πανεπιστήμιο του Ελσίνκι. Δεν έχω ξεχάσει όλ' αυτά που έμαθα εκεί ;D Όχι ακόμα τουλάχιστον.. But this video is not about me, so no more stories about my life ;) I wonder how the end of this song sounds to French ears. She obviously sings "ohjaa kotiin moiiiii" ;)
When I first heard this as a child in 1990s I thought this was a lot older song, because it has become such a classic in Finland ;) I think this is a great song and this performance is just stunning!
I don't understand the Ireland and Finland switching places comments. I think this entire year was incredibly strong. Finland has a good song here, but it seems to me that it's lyric-heavy, which is a problem when your language is Finnish. Look at the top 5: each one perfectly embodies one emotion for me. Appreciation of beauty, childhood innocence, sheer melodic power, unbridled energy, and a first love. I'm trying to put my finger on the Finnish song, and the most expressive part is the title.
A very interesting and well-expressed opinion, even if I don't agree 100% with you. But, yes, it was indeed at incredibly strong year, so sth was bound to fall through the cracks - and maybe you're right that Katri Helena's song wasn't so immediately likeable as the rest. Anyway, besides Ireland. I don't have a problem with the rest of the top-5. they were all quite deserving, each in its own way (my personal picks mey have been slightly different, but still).
Expressing one clear emotion or not, that is not necessarily what makes a song good. The Irish song just sounds irritating to me and way too old-fashioned, whereas the Finnish song I find a very captivating melody. But with music, it's always 'to each his own'.
WOW what an underrated song! Only 13th?? Common, it was one of the best songs of 1979 and my one of my favourite Finnish songs! However, this is one of the many underrated Finnish songs and once again, thank you Tasos for the amazing quality. You really have an amazing youtube-channel, certainly one of the best Eurovision-related one - and I'm not the only one who think like this.
I agree with escjesc on this being underrated and the annoying Irish entry being overrated - but I have a theory that almost every year there is at least one truly overrated entry, and at least one truly underrated one.
An amazing Finnish song, and this is one of their best songs (along with 1985) but this one is probably the most underrated song of 1979!!! 14th place, out of 19 songs???
Were the juries listening to a different song during this one???
This one deserved a higher place since there were many overrated song that year (Switzerland, United Kingdom, Ireland, and yes Spain, well at least for me)
Yes, I totally agree with you. I can understand the Spanish entry's appeal, and I do think it's a good song, but this is just a much more inspired and truly original entry. As for how this ended 14th while the truly mediocre Irish entry ranked 5th, well... let's just say that a fair ranking should, at the very least, have them switching places.
I am shocked this song did not win!

i must confess this is definitely not a bad song, but juries, especially in the 70s, preferred happy songs rather than clever songs.
that's why the juries whose musical culture can be described as "clever" (Italy, France and Luxembourg) voted for this song.

This has now become on my favorite Finnish entries. But in this strong year, it still didn't deserve more than 9th place, in my opinion.

It deserved to come higher than 14th, but it has a very early-70's sound to it. Mind you, the winner wasn't exactly bang up to date either!

This is a great and very underated song by Finland. Great performance on the night by Katri Helena. Why did no one vote for it?

@tasosk3 Surely a strong entry in a strong year, but the most underrated finish one was 1991 with Kaija Kärkinen and "Hullu Yö"
