My first was a 72 MGB in 1980.I am about to get another one this week.The car was offered to me for free and I haven't seen it yet, so I am sure I will be doing the same thing soon. They aren't the most reliable car, but what's the fun in owning a car that starts everytime?
I've owned my 1973 MGB for over 20 years. I've driven it through snowstorms, deserts and have put about 200000 miles on it on the same engine (one rebuild). It gets 28mpg on average and costs next to nothing in insurance or maintenance. It's a daily driver and simply the best car i've ever owned. If you treat it well, if you follow the scheduled tasks, perform a few recommended upgrades and don't just neglect things or abuse it, it will be extremely reliable.
HI Marty, Great progress so far I have heard you can drop the steering column and this will make it easier to remove and install the dash. Marty do yourself a favor replace the main wiring harness. it will set you back about $450 but it is worth it. I had a fire almost break out in my 74 Midget with old wiring. Anyway best of luck with your B. You are living my dream!
Note: with the fine threaded nuts and bolts that British cars used back then even the rustiest nut will remove easy.
