  • Like this? Check out Hardline. Neal Schon's other project from the early 90's.

  • こんなにカッコいいギターソロ、どうやったら思いつくのですか?ニールおしえて下さい。

  • 「 青い影 」 いい曲だな!

  • 寿司 さしみ

    そんなTシャツどこで買ったんだよ、サミーwwwww

  • i think a version doesnt want to ''compete'' with the original. never.

  • @Googelbeast Please listen to the cd version and you will se

  • The only version worth listening to of this song is the original by Procol Harum.....No cover is going to be able to compete with the original

  • I just bought this cd for five bucks. I loved this tune when it came out when I was in 6th grade. Listening to the whole album Schon wanted to flippin' rock out and he tempered that impulse to forge Journey into the polished, stylized hitmaking machine it was. I love Journey, don't get me wrong. But I think Schon had a Page or a Blackmore inside him and that if this album had broken big, we would never have heard Raised on Radio. He would have been competing with Whitesnake and Def Lep.

  • The drum kits in the '80's ROCKED!

  • te pasaste....la polerita del otro....regalada en un restoran...

  • This is so great except...

    Sammy's T-shirt...

    SUSHI SASHIMI

    so dorky

  • Sammy stinks

  • one of the most beautiful songs that i ever heard fantastic

  • Best Whiter shade of pale cover.

    Sammy Hagar , Neil Schon

  • MAN.. Sammy Hagar was so cool back then.... WHAT HAPPENED??

  • @michaelvj50 five words: Alex and Eddie Van Halen

  • Gives me chills.

  • love it!!!!

  • 1:19 best part... i wonder if i can make a cover with my death metal band

  • Love the fan running on stage @2:50

  • i remember john entwhistle was offered to join this band . but turned it down

  • The Best Version man!!

  • I think this was the Marin county show I woke up three days later

  • Something about Hagar and Schon together. Seems like the genius partnership that never started. Goddamn.

  • Sammy is the man!

  • Without a Hammond B3 organ, its missing "Something"

Still they're a good band with talent.

  • @Deltaxray7

Ya it's missing a better bass player and drummer. No offense to Shrive, he is a legend, but he wasn't cut out for this material. He looks as stiff and awkward as a drumming oak tree.

  • disculpen la ignorancia pero este pata no fue el ultimo vocalista de van halen

  • not as good as thin lizzys

  • @milszyman No, you can't beat the Red Rocker's vocals, and what a duo with Neal Schon. I may just check out Thin Lizzy's cover though just for the heck of it!

  • worst bass tone ever.

    drummer has tempo issues.

    guitar and vocals are amazing.

  • @pugggs I'm not a drummer, but do you know who the drummer is? It's Mike Shrieve from the original Santana band, played at woodstock. Check out the solo during Soul Sacrifice. Shrieve is incredible. Don't judge by a youtube video.

  • @buixrule i can easily judge this performance by this video. you may think he is incredible. while being a non-drummer, you are entitled to that opinion. this performance shows tempo issues from the drummer as well as a horribly timed/placed fill that takes away from the feeling of the song. while we are at it... the bassist sucks. he is not consistent with his patterns and is very loose with the drums/tempo.

btw - a drum solo doesn't make someone a incredible drummer.

  • @pugggs You claim to be a drummer and you don't even know who Mike Shrieve is? lol that's like a guitarist who has never heard of Jimi Hendrix. Be Ashamed of yourself. Go out and pick up the first 5 Santana albums and then find Shrieve's solo stuff and his stuff with Stomu Yamashta and Steve Windwood in "Go" that should make you stfu..

  • @pj672010 hey idiot. copy and paste any section of my comments that shows where i said i was a drummer. that should make you stfu.

  • @pj672010 No shit. His improve drum solo on the Woodstock take of Soul Sacrifice is one of the most ridiculously awesome solos of all time and he was 19 at the time. But he looks as stiff as an oak tree on this rock material, doesn't fit at all. Bass player looks like he should have taken Ben Orr's spot in The Cars goddamn.

  • @buixrule so true. the drum solo by Shrieve at woodstock was groundbreaking. some guys just gotta groove on da latin rock feel

  • The Best Cover Version.

  • drummer failed (03:24)....sad,but cover is still a bomb!!!

  • Red Rocker rocks hard! BTW, where did this Neal Schon guy come from, 'cause he sounds terrific???

  • @mariofan4523 Neal Schon is the guitarist for Journey.

  • @mariofan4523 I don't know who that guy is!!! I think he was in "Santowna" or something like that...LOL!

  • I've been looking for years for this version of this song (wasn't finding it via "neil schon whiter shade of pale"). Stumbled on it while reading about sammy hagar on wiki. woo hoo!

  • For all my good friends.

    "clink"

  • Rock Version !!!

  • I was THERE. This was amazing!!!! ♥

  • Man. One of my favorite albums from the 80's. Hagar sounds soooo bitchin'.

  • why this video has so few views and likes?

  • Look I love Neal...he swings his ass off...at times he can get repetitive..I love Michael Schenker..different style...can get repetitive... they have their own thang goin' on..lol..... Ill tell you what EUguitar....when you start recognizing musicians such as present day guitarist Bireli Legrene and composers such as Victor Young and Ned washington, then you'll understand.

  • Whatever you do folks....DONT post that Schon is better than anyone else...apparently Ive broken some secret rule that only EUguitarRule knows about.......ohmmmm...God of the opinions EUguitarRule...ohmmmm....I worship your enlightened mind....ohmmmm lolololol OMG

  • i dont think so. try michael schenker and pattison...melds the organs and guitar....

  • best song they have

  • 27 years ago.....i wish to God I could turn back time.....say what you want about Steve vai......Schon plays like no other folks....

  • @rooseguitar64 lol you havent been around buddy boy so stop posting your 2 cents here. Look up Michael Schenker, Gary moore and uli roth...your to much in u.s. medias ass. this guys are 2nd to none.

  • lololol...what are you all of thirty? LMFAO..Im old enough to understand that you have a complex....hahahahahaha omg too funny...."dont you post here!"...hahahahaha..."or else im gonna be mad cause im the king of my own mind!!" hahahahahahah...if you truly understood anything about playing guitar, you wouldnt have made such an immature remark.. playing music isnt a competition...competitions are for horses or horses asses....and Michael would tell you that himself. Grow up..

  • @EUguitarRULE LOL;their playing blew peoples helmets in the 70's and continue to today

  • this is my favorite version

  • These guys are all Hall of Fame Sammy Hagar should have many Life Time Achievement Awards Bands ,Singer ,song writer, musician,, composer.

Little do people know all the songs he wrotee including most of Rick Springfield's

    POP tunes .

  • I think Sammy should be wearing stiletto heels. As for the tune, this is an original. Yes, Clapton et al did a version of it 20 or so years previous (how they went to the future to hear it I dunno - somethign more to add to their legend :) ), but this is the defining version - it's ALIVE. Such a shame it's cut off before the end................. growl.

  • it would be cool if they did it with just guitar and him singing

  • hey its sammy singing i recognize his voice

  • that has to be the guy from led zepplin or sammy haggar

  • Comment removed

  • power ballad style awesome

  • Ahh the Red Rocker!! and Journey/Santana! these guys are were and are still awesome! HSAS!

  • Awesome!!

  • Yup"" Neal Schon KICKS ASS HES THE MAN!! FOR SURE!!!!

  • I love this song and Neal's guitar playing here...Bev

  • The First of Many Super Groups ?

  • Schon still has that amazing FAT tone and awesome melodic sensibility..... Like no other. I LOVE this version of the song.

  • Got that right!

  • I have this cassette :)

  • I have this on vinyl ... somewhere. :-)

  • neal and shrieve were in satana

  • amazing.. just best of the best covers of this awesome song.. five stars for HSAS...

  • I grew up in the sixties remember this song at the dances well loved the song

  • Hagar is better with these guy's than Van Halen.

  • you must be young

  • Boy, these guys make what is out today look like shit.

  • @GodChristLord You said it brother.

  • This show needs to be put out on DVD...LOVED this performance

  • i do too!!!

  • @AUniqueVideoProd I believe it is on DVD somwhere........seems like I saw it at Best Buy but didnt buy it like a dunce.

  • What year do you guys think this was?

  • This video with HSAS is from around 1984.

  • Love to watch the various stages of Sammy,s career from his beginnings to the now. Great singers last a long time, and he is certainly one of the best.

  • There is something sacred about this performance, I've still got the chills. I'm not a huge fan of Sammy, but this is absolutely the best I've ever heard him sing. He must have a real connection to this song to sing it so well. Having Shrieve and Schon backing you can't hurt either.

  • awesome electric guitar

  • neal schon kicks ass!!

  • He didn't miss a note when that fan started grabbing on him. Wow. Nice performance.

  • Sammy does this song justice!! and the band also...

  • every time i see shrieve i think soul sacrifice at woodstock

  • Michael Shreive makes those drums seem sooooooo easy....

  • ChickenFoot = HSAS ver. 2.0: Hagar, Satch, Anthont, Smith.

  • Ahh, to go back to that time in my life. Why can't music be made like this again? WE need it! Thanks for posting this.

  • I have written about this. Don't buy what is called music out there. If sales drop off, and drop off, as they justly should, then we will hear real music again.

  • @lefty5150guy That is sooo true...in .those days anything was possible

  • guys, cut it out !!! music is about respect

  • iT´S AMAZING . . . Neil Shon are some of the beast musicians around the worl ¡¡

  • A GREAT cover. by a GREAT band. Schon's tone and playing is to me, not of this earth.

  • Well its obvious you havent been around the best version if not better than the original is by Michael schenker and pattison.

  • I am a huge Schenker fan and have heard the other version.... I just prefer this version that's all

  • It's really an awesome cover!

  • Is this sammy hagar foreal?

  • What a great cover! Sounds a lot like Lynch Mob. Hagar is great.

  • uh . . . this isnt the place to do this(?), why not take it off line. I noticed you took OFF your Comment, why, it was the way you ended it . . . "Get your facts straight". It was all by itself away from the main paragraph, who's the Hot Head? The Air Traffic Controller was a Joke, maybe an obscure one. I say TRUCE, I dont know you, you sure as hell dont know me, so lets just say we were BOTH wrong, this world is better off with one less fight. I believe you about the Guitar ;)

  • And now I see my post has disappeared. What's up with that? *puzzled*

  • OOps! sorry about that, thought you took it off yourself . . . . . T R U CE!!!! ;)

  • Jesus! Excuse me, a planet where no-one can make mistakes, why is YOUtube full of ass-holes?

  • How am I an "asshole" for correcting your misinformation?

Instead of apologizing and simply saying, "My bad" or the like, you attack me instead. What is your problem? Are you about 12 years old? Grow up, hothead.

  • that was for Ken5244 by the way X/ Now that I didnt get my FACTS straight, I guess I'll NEVER be an Air Traffic Controller :P

  • What does being an "air traffic controller" have to do with anything? I simply pointed out that you were incorrect in stating the guitar is a Fender Strat, and you attack me. No one said you "can't make mistakes." But why do you throw a temper tantrum when someone points out that you did?

  • This band was awesome!! We need a reunion! Aaronson was the man!!

  • yes ! Roland did indeed make guitars and the synth version is correct !!

My guitarist had one in the musically unrealistic '80's

  • 2:45 lol a crazy teenager walked on stage and the guards kicked him out

  • Roland never made guitars all other musical equipment they did.

  • @bluesboy2400 blues boy...yes they did..I owned one.

  • I like when NS looks at Hagar like? That chick was going to kick your ass, if she stayed longer on the stage. Sammy's alright, but way back in the dayz before? He was an outcast, and just screamed a lot. I know someone that had known him from his beginnings. apb

  • WTF!!!!!???? Did this EVER make it to Video!? I LOVE this album "Valley of the Kings/Giza" is just incredible! And this has to be the best version next to the original by Procal Harum, I had no idea this was here, I will now watch them all, thank you soo much for posting these! :D -MAVIII(prOgulus . c O m)

  • wow! crazy at 2:45

  • what kind of guitar is that!?!

  • Coyote919- They were a new Series of Fender Strats, forgive, I don't know the name of the series :( Kerry Livgren of Kansas used them at this time as well, always liked the "shape" of the Pick-guard for that series :) -MAVIII(prOgulus . c O m)

  • thanks. did fender discontinue that series?

  • Not a Fender Strat...its a guitar synth made by a company called Roland. This was about the time that alot of name guitarists were experimenting with guitar synths...Neal was one of the most prominent.

  • Wasn't one of the more promanent guitar synths of that time an Arpovator?

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @Coyote919 That is a roland synth guitar...Schon was all over them in the early 80's...you can see him use them in the Escape Video shot in Houston

  • @rooseguitar64 are you sure about that? cause it sure looks like a Fender Strat body and neck. I'm not saying its not I dont know much about Roland. I can clearly see that it has extra knobs and a differant trem system. possibly an early locking system.

  • @flirtyguy34 yes, it's deffo a Roland Synth guitar from the 80's ; )

  • The best cover of this tune I ever heard. And Amadeus1756 is right VANDENBERG ROCKS!!!!!!

  • NEAL

  • BigTimeSchonFan ,You Know it!! Yes I do Understand.....SCHON FOR EVER!!

  • I still pull out the old vinyl LP of this and raise the roof from time to time! It is such a killer live album... If you liked this one, type in "HSAS He Will Understand" and check out that video!!! One of Neal Schons best live albums ever........

  • the balls.

  • FYI, HSAS guitarist is also the guitarist of Journey

  • no sh!t sherlock

  • ...and Santana

  • Itunes needs to get this on immediately. Also some Vandenberg baby!

  • Vandenburg rocks!!! So underrated and yet so very, very good. Caught him along with Vai on the MOnsters of Rock tour in Germany. Have lots of pics and Whitesnake rally killed it. Dio was awesome also as they had Rowan Robertson (then 17) on the tour with them!! Awesome memories.

  • I love the HSAS album...true classic! This was a great post to...THANKS!!! :)

  • increible

  • wonderful

  • Wow. This was amazing. I clicked on this video by accident, and saw a hair band, and I was about to click back when I heard their sound...

    Great rendition of the song!

  • love this stuff! can't believe this exists!

  • Never knew this footage existed-Thank's for putting it on.

  • how about sammys new band, hagar, smith, antony, satriani!hsas again

  • Nice rock! They fit together just like a glove. Check out 'From a Dry Camel' by Dust here.

  • Re the disagreement here between nealkang and swpaul04: You are 100% mistaken, nealkang, and swpaul04 is right. This was not the "Van Halen audition for Sammy" in any way, shape or form.

Sammy's audition for VH happened ~ 2 years AFTER this HSAS show when Eddie's Lambourghini (car) broke down and he was at the repair shop talking to the mechanic (Claudio) about how Dave had just split and they were looking for a new singer. Claudio also worked on Sammy's car and said to Eddie, "call Sammy!"

  • Ken is exactly right! Sammy had no clue what so ever at this time period that he would later hook up with VH. I know that die hard VH fans did not except Sammy as the new front man for VH, but I was a huge fan of the "Red Rocker" while Eddie VH was playing clubs in S.F. So I was thrilled when Sammy came on board!

  • Quote: " ... but I was a huge fan of the "Red Rocker" while Eddie VH was playing clubs in S.F."

I think you meant playing clubs in L.A. (they're from Pasadena, an L.A. suburb), but yeah, I was a big fan of Sammy's mid-70s music too. "Street Machine" was a great record! Ditto the first Montrose album with Sammy on lead vocals. Killer stuff.

  • Hagar and Schon tried to get together again a few years ago. Michael Anthony on bass, Deen Castronovo on drums, and Joe Satriani on co lead guitar. Sammy and Michael did reunion with Van Halen. That would have been killer.

  • Yea, I think that the working band name was Planet Us. I would have LOVED for that incarnation to have happened

  • An awesome band people forgot about!!!! ALL ROCKERS!!!!!

  • Great album !!! All were top musicians in there relative bands! Same as Deep Purple..... Led Zepelin and so on! Just great players laying together once! The Firm is another prime example!!!!!!!!!! Page, rogers the drummer for ac-dc and the bassest i think from yes?

  • By the way, Schon and Perry had worked with Sammy on his early solo albums in the late 70s long before Sammy had colaborated with Eddie.

  • Sammy and Neil were awesome in this band OMG if they had made it stick

  • Watch Santana's Soul Sacrifice at Woodstock to see this amazing drummer in his younger days.

  • Well, this was the Van Halen audition for Sammy Hagar because he had joined them shortly after this collaboration. But it really makes me think what would've, could've been if Sammy Hagar and Neal Schon had been together ever since by not going to Van Halen and Journey, respectively. It would've been very intriguing because I think they really had some great elements and chemistry here. Well, isn't life interesting?

  • You keep posting this in threads but it's not correct. HSAS was recorded in 1983. Sammy made another solo album, VOA, featuring "I can't drive 55" in 1984 and joined Van Halen in 1986. Before 5150 was released he made a final solo album due to his contract with Geffen Records titled "I Never Said Goodbye"

  • swpaul04, Your chronology may be correct, but I still think this project DID play the role of an audition of Hagar for Van Halen. It's a well-documented fact that Neal Schon had been a personal favorite of Eddie Van Halen, and I'm sure he was watching and listening to this project with great interest before Hagar actually joined Van Halen.

  • Maybe so, but at the time Van Halen was busy recording 1984, release date January 1 1984. I dont think they were looking for a new singer at that time.

  • Just an incredible version of this song, Rock on Sammy and Neal. Love Youtube..

  • They did some shows at the Warfield and they also did 5 shows athe the San Jose Civic Auditorium!

  • It was live at the Warfield in San Fransisco!

  • H.S.A.S. Hagar, Schon, AAronson and Shrieve! Album cover! Through The Fire!

  • I have the album! I bought in 1984!

All it says is was recorded live by the westwood one mobile facility... november 9/21/1983 additional overdubs at fantasy studios, December ,1983

  • Anyone know where this was filmed?

  • Westwood one Mobile Facility! 9/21/1983

  • ((((((((((I love this song.))))))))))

  • oh man.. where did u get this amaxing video?

you know I called the radio station once asking for it the DJ knew about it but did not even have the Audio of it to play!!?

amazing.. jkeep em coming man . thanks a lot

  • sammy blows janice,s version away.sammys the man.

  • See Neal Schon laughing as they drag the girl offstage at 02.53?

    He doesn't miss a note!

  • What a beautiful solo.............

  • This is amazing. Sammy, when he is on, is the man. Love the original but Sammy and Neil just took this and made it theirs. This is one of those classic moments you only get so many of in music (or anything, for that matter). A HSAS reunion would be fun. Maybe with Michael Anthony?

  • Pure fucking magic!!!!!!!! wish Sammy would junk the cabo shit, forget VH, and do nuther disc w/ Neil, Kenny, etc.
