That was so cool. Being black and from the hood skateboarding was my getaway. The guys like Ron Allen and Alphonso Rawles made me feel like it was ok to skate. If these guys are watching, thanks for those good times. Matt, Alphonso, Danny Way. It's funny because at that time I felt like Danny Way was going to be the man. Everyone was like Hawk's the man.
Thank you verry much for posting,it was like going back in time for a hour or so.Growing up with troubled yuoth situation all I had was a handfull of freinds,my board and some sweet spots after school. This video was at the epicenter of it all
and it was sureal to experience it all over again. Thanks again
went out to chicago like in 92 think was an went to sessions skateshop cuz my bearing broke an who else but matt h. was working there...seriously really awesome person hooked me up free set bearings an asked if we wanted to play sum pool later that night at a bar damn wish was 21 that day...lol ....kicks ass in my book...
Thanks for taking me down memory lane. 21 Years ago I was a skinny 8th grader having the time of my life. All I did was skate all day and try and pick up young girls. I had no idea how good life was. These days I'm an out of shape 34 year old and watching these old skate videos damn near gets me emotional. Wish I could go back to those days.
@muvico1 I was always puzzled by that. He retired at his peak. But then, skateboarding was changing and evolving so quickly back then. Just after he quit skating was entering the super tech era ('93) and IMO the over all style got very ugly for a good while. Maybe Matt's style wouldnt have fit in so well with that era. But he absolutely owned the late 80s and early 90s.
@MyWendal He was skating for Black Label around 99 & 2000 (I used to have his board, awesome shape) but he plays in the band Flogging Molly, if that helps anything.
@fukuandieyuppieskum Yeah, I remember he came back in the late 90s. Heard he moved to Chicago and was a paramedic for a while before that, then I guess he decided he missed skating. But he never really made the kinda waves the way he did while on H-Street. Yeah a friend of mind is a huge Flogging Molly fan, I knew he was playing with them.
this movie gets me so pumped to go skate. its been about 10 years since i put it away. dusted off me pads and headin out to a new park just built near me. hope nothin breaks
@NachoMachoxxx Powell sure did suck compared to h-street. Powell was so commercial and cheesie and h-street was just raw skateboarding. That's why when h-street came along powell pretty much died. Other goofy companies like Vision were obliterated.
