I've gotten my fingers caught in leghold traps WITHOUT the rubber pads and I still have all of my fingers. They didn't even draw blood. What would the point be in chopping off an animal's foot, anyway? Most people's conception of leghold traps must come from old cartoons, where the traps are nearly as big as the character and have huge pointy teeth. If an animal bleeds onto a trap then that trap becomes useless, as other animals will smell the blood and not go near it.

No they can be set by hand, you just have to be careful. If you look there are a couple other videos on here that show how to set them.

What are you trapping with them? 110s are a lot easier to set. There are a couple different ways to set the double spring ones though. There is a method that uses just a piece of rope. I carry a piece of rope just incase I manage to catch an arm in a 220 or 330. There are a couple other methods but it is hard to explain.

i'd have to disagree with you just a little on the addition of the soft catch pads. the pads are more there to help distribute pressure and keep circulation into the foot of the animal, just like laminated or offset jaws. this will keep the foot from going numb and prevent the animal from chewing on itself. but otherwise good video. it's about time people are trying to dispell rumors and myths about trapping.
