  • i aint watching crap, example instead of listening to obama numb brain whole convo i will just watch the part i want to hear. if they make it like tv i will not come here

  • ◊ copy and paste if you agree that corporate companies like Disney and Hulu do not belong on YouTube ◊

◊ copy and paste if you want YouTube back to the way it was in 2006 / 2007 ◊

◊ copy and paste if you want to keep the YOU in YOUTUBE ◊

  • New name will be NWOTUBE.

  • Disney will demand Youtube be cleaned up. You vid bloggers are going to be forgotten. Don't worry youtube became popular because it was a response to corporate websites that are fuking trash; in turn youtube will be overcome by another website.

  • I think it's far more likely that all of the non-copyrighted music vids & TV shows etc will be got rid of.

I'm sure they have more to worry about than us vloggers :)

  • Oh my dear!

  • I like your opinion. Everyone else but a few, such as you and me, are panicking. We're side-lined anyways, and youtube is a business - It's to be expected. But really, nothing will change. Who uses the videos tab anyways? This is actually more-so of a convenience for those looking for something made by a company, such as a music video.

On the contrary, the top vids are lame anyways. The more Fred is pushed to the side, the better. Unless Fred is actually part of the business ploy...

  • I keep hearing about 'Fred', but have no idea who they are. As i said, i hardly ever go to the front page.

So far, here in the UK anyway, i see no changes. Well not to the way i use YT anyway. let's hope that continues :)

  • whats going to happen to us....

  • bad things,

  • being overseas I like to be able to catch certain tv shows (but not all - not most really). That's how it was actually in YT early days as you mentioned by earlier users.

As long as YT doesn't actively push out content creators, I don't care so much because like you I don't watch any of those categories especially not the Featured vids because many of them are terrible - the same with most popular vids which would be Fred and I could do without that.

  • HuluTube maybe

  • It sounds that way :)

  • if it all about tv and not us, it more like hulutube they broadcast themselves. i come from the uk so that means all uk people like me cant view youtube?

  • I do wonder if things will be different for us here in the UK.

    I guess we'll have to wait & see? :)

  • noooooo youtube!! :(

  • I've not seen any changes here in thew UK as yet.

Maybe it won't chnage for us? :)

  • can you please explain whats going on i dont get it?

  • Hopefully the video explains it all :)

  • I totally agree with you! 110% Hulu is good - But YouTube is good for User Made Videos! I also use YouTube more than I watch TV!

  • We can't get Hulu in the UK, so i've never seen it. But, it sounds like a decent site for watching old TV shows etc.

At least with a site like that you can choose the TV that you want to watch, rather than having to rely on schedules :)

  • I know! I'm in the UK. I use a thing called Hotspot shield to watch American TV on Hulu!

  • It's a deal with Disney? Youtube has sold it's soul to the devil.

  • I know what you mean.

I await the changes with trepidation :)

  • just a matter of hours to wait really!

  • Agreed im mad youtube is going to do this i just might quit if it as bad as evryone says it is.

  • I'm hopeful it won't be as bad as some fear.

If it is, i can see quite a few people leaving the site :)

  • Think about it! Stay on here - Just dont use the other tabs like Movies + TV shows - If no one clicks on them then they will have to go back!

  • Well stated. Who would know what youtube is without us? Keep on broadcasting yourself!

  • Thank you. As long as YT allows me to Broadcast Myself, i intend to keep on doing just that :)

  • HuTube - Broadcast Yourself - No one will care

  • Possibly not. I guess it depends on how it affects us all :)

  • Yeah! Well its April, 16th and nothing has happened so far!

  • they got rid of the vid rankings when u see em on da list, part of what they said theyd do

  • I agree. Don't think we'll see much of a change, other than maybe layout and design. I think they would have to send us notification if they planned to delete or change any of the content we have already uploaded. So far as I can tell, that is not happening. Should be business as usual, at least in the short term future...

  • I'm hoping you're right.

    Not long to wait now...

Good to see you back Frosty :)

  • Going to save the beatles one for tomorrow and yes I do check my adsense each day and I may be making a small amount but people are clicking on my vids and adverts.

Watch out for the video where I show my first cheque, maybe done by xmas 2009.

    James

  • I must admit, i always forget to check my account.

I have a feeling you'll be getting that first cheque well before me :)

  • I just have the page at top of browser in bookmark toolbar and its only started growing rapidly and I think its a thank you to my viewers at work.

I love the ability to upload longer and bigger videos as you may notice I have a couple of full documentaries on it which are in parts on my other main channel bedojames

I will be throwing a party when that cheque arrives dont even know what the rate per view is. LOL

  • My pleasure :)

  • Thanks :)

  • Another great, thought provoking vlog on this matter :)

I find that I spend more time on Hulu watching feature films than I do on YouTube. YT has apparently realized this.

I have been clamoring for YT to separate vloggers from mainstream media and I think their latest move might be beneficial and help us find new vloggers. If they get the same major brands to advertise that Hulu does, I don't believe they need to charge us.

  • Thanks John.

Hulu does seem to be very popular, from what i can see from Twitter etc.

I know you've been campaigning for vloggers for a long time. I feel you may be right, but i guess we'll just have to wait & see.

My only concern with this, is about new people coming into vlogging. Will they get noticed if we are sidelined more thatn we are at the moment? :)

  • Agreed; As long as I can get to my subscription page, it's not really going to change my YT experience much at all. I never go to the front page anyway.

  • There's a front page? ;)

  • The community is in place and we watch who we watch and won't be affected. It's the new and casual users who won't be able to find us anymore. I wonder how small that TAB for us you're talking about will be!

  • I think that's right for the existing Community. I do wonder though about how this might affect any newcomers. Will they be able to find the Community so easily come the YT revolution.

I guess we only have a few days to wait to find out :)

  • I watched this video from start to finish last night after a few beers, I'm sure I had more to say on the subject than the last comment but at the moment those thoughts escape me?! ;)

  • I know that feeling Steve ;)

  • Hulu what? I have no idea what that is all about, regardless of what YouTube do I will keep on making the videos I want and if people keep watching, all the better.

To be honest with them being stricter on copyright surely there is a better chance of the original content creators being made... although I guess the point is there are so many professional companies that a lot of people still come to YT looking for music videos

  • As i said, i hadn't heard of Hulu until this week either.

I'm sure this move will coincide with YT being more strict on copyright infringement. And as long as that's done sensibly, i don't really have too much of a problem with that. Unffortunately it's usually done in a strange fashion, which penalises the wrong people.

    We'll see :)

  • I dont mind youtube doing what they have to do to make money, just so long as they dont mess with ability to watch vlogs and keep in touch with my friends.

  • I second that thought Daryl :)

  • I came here to watch people like yourself Andy- for me this is a good way of seeing simply what people think, finding new people with different ideas and to talk to them, and react and converse.

Granted, I do watch some commercially produced videos, but for the most part, I'm a subscriber to the vloggerhood. lol.

  • I'm here for pretty much the same reasons & that's what keeps me here too.

Unless that changes drastically, i can't see me doing anything differently.

I think we all watch at least some of that commercial content. For me it's mainly music videos :)

  • For those of you who are concerned, I have created a profile and video to spread the awareness of the drastic changes that may happen to Youtube.

    w w w - youtube - com / watch?v=nPECy7qwW9Y

  • Thanks, i'll check it out :)

  • I hadn't heard this story. This week there was a mini outcry in the legal profession about Abbey National changing its rules about using solicitors and I got caught up on a flurry of emails about it. Those of us who have been in the prefession long enough know they tried this "new idea" after the last recession, lost a lot of respect from us and lot of customers as a result and they will again. So I have no faith in anything until the people affected have voted with their feet (or their fingers)

  • Good analogy Brian.

I suppose we all have that right to vote with our fingers & videos, if we don't like what we see :)

  • BULLSHIT youtube is youtube why dont they at least leave it up and let ppl upload just dont drop the site but leave it up just dont check on it and go find another job christ sake

  • Even leaving a site in the air costs money.

  • Whether we like it or not. YT costs a lot of money to run :)

  • My only comment would be this, if it ain't broke, why fix it?

  • The answer to that would appear to be, to make more money of course :)

  • We're sidelined? Who cares?!!? People who watch YouTube watch it for their own reasons, and they watch the kind of material that they choose to watch... There's a front page? LOL

  • Apparently it's there, if you look for it. Never go there myself ;)

  • whats the nick hornby behind ya dont think ive read that.?

  • "A long way down" & "Slam"

Both good reads. But then i like everything i've read by him, so i'm a little biased :)

  • The BBC thing sounds like a sweet setup.

These restrictions based on where we live, tho, is a bummer!

Are the TV-watchers the majority - good question. I'm starting to suspect that if they aren't already, the pendulum is swinging in that direction.

I think you're right about them not changing the name. After all, they PAID to have that name (not just the whistles and bells behind it).

The party ain't over until the guests leave or the owner kicks everyone out, right?

    :-)

  • you have to pay for the bbc curt its not that sweet man.

  • Well shoot, no that doesn't sound so great.

After finding YouTube I finally came to the conclusion that paying for regular television was a waste (for me, at least).

  • The BBC iPlayer is free to use. If you can acces it that is!

But, as The Pope says. We do have to pay an annual licence fee, which goes to fund the BBC. Money very well spent IMHO :)

  • As i said to Ran. I thought the Internet was supposed to be global? I guess not.

The party ain't over till the fat lady sings. Hang on a minute.... who's that coming around the corner? ;)

  • I would make a comment but you said everything I would say so what is left for me to say?... Hmmmm

    much lub bro

  • oh I guess I could add I am not a partner nor will I ever be so they might get rid of me... but then who who give a rats butt about that LMAO

  • It's good to know we're on the same wavelength Pappy :)

  • Great points.

I guess its all speculation until we see what will the changes actually do.

if it gets worse we can always go to VH :-)

  • I suppose it is all a bit 'wait & see' at the moment isn't it?

Maybe this is all part of a cunning plan by Tom & Renetto to get us to spend more time on VH? ;)

  • Also, this change might be a good thing when it comes to the "not available in your county" thing. I know we sometimes come across this on YT but it's not YT's fault, it's the wrong headed thinking of the networks. But if HuluTube works it might open the eyes of the networks and finally make them realize the internet is global. If a show can make money on here it's only a matter of time that they realize they can make even more money by opening it up to a global abundance.

  • That is one of those really annoying about how the Internet, or parts of it anyway, seems to work.

Why are certain things only available in certain countries? I guess it's a licensing thing? Whatever, it's still very annoying. I thought the Internet was a global thing? :)

  • I'm not worried. They will never shut down the user generated side of the site. I also don't think it's going to be a bunch of Network tabs and a little Video tab that has all the user content jumbled up one area and lost-it's a simple matter to keep the same general layout that we are used to in the Videos section. Let them put whatever they want on the front page. If they want to keep commercial videos in one separate spot, let them-it will make it easier for me to avoid them.

  • Good point & i think a lot os us will feel they same way.

I usually avoid all of that stuff too, as i said :)

  • I agree they need to make money or they can't keep this free, but if they cut us real ppl out then it's a big loss to me.I don't think it's the end though, but the community needs a leaison(sp) with youtube/google.

  • I that would be a big loss for all of us.

There used to be a Community Council which did liase with YouTube. I wonder whatever happened to that? :)

  • I think YouTubers who try and define what "YouTube is there for" get themselves in trouble. YouTube is a flexible platform and can be used for anything a video-maker wants it to be. In my personal opinion, we, the users, did not, and do not, define what YouTube is, because YouTube isn't anything specific other than a domain for public content.

Sadly, like all thing, YouTube will go through changes. Everything does. Let's hope the content you and I are both here for remains in tact.

  • That's my hope as well.

YouTube has to do what it has to do, although i'd obviouslt prefer it to be exactly what i want it to be. Not very likely though :)

  • No, not very likely at all but we can hope.

Keep up the great, great vlogs! I always wait to watch you vlogs with a cup of tea or a snack because they are kind of long and always interesting to watch.

    Cheers!

  • Thanks very much. I appreciate your kind words :)

  • i prefer a can of stella with mine nate.

  • exactly it like everyone goes to the same pub weather you get pissed or not in that pub is up to you.

  • Excellent video, Andy. I agree completely.

  • Thank you, that's good to hear :)

  • The most viewed videos on YT are the kind of material that's gonna be more prominent then anyways. But I'm really curious about how people that are not aware of the phenomenon are gonna find vloggers then...

I stumbled over the first vlog through something completely different... But we'll see, I'm sure the community won't just die like that!

  • That's a good point about people possibly not being able to find us in the future. But, i do think that problem exists at the moment anyway.

Like you, i found the vloggers almost by accident. Hopefully, people will still be able to do that come the YT revolution :)

  • Great video, my friend. To me, YouTube is making a rash decision here, completely changing their brand. A little over a year ago, Hulu was a beta site. Apparently the money is in the TV shows, not the original content like users like us create. Where this will all take us on April 16th is a beyond me. Is this the end of an era? As long as there's a tab right alongside ABC or Universal or whatever, I guess I'll be happy to just have a place. Maybe it's a good thing I didn't close my VH account!

  • LOL @ the VH comment. Mine is still open as well.

It will be interesting to see where this takes us. But, i guess some of this was inevitable.

Having read the BBC News bit about the deal with Disney i'm a bit more concerned. Apparently they can put ads in the videos. I don't like the sound of that. Not that i expect to be watching many Disney videos!

Like you said, as long as there's a tab there which can lead me to the 'decent' & original content. I think i'll be happy. Let's see :)

  • but what era do you mean exactly gary?

  • It is great that you are bringing this up Andy (I had a feeling that you might!) I am not worried in the slightest, people were "scare-mongering" too when the partner programme was extended to include mere mortals like me and you! I think Youtube puts more emphasis on the "community" than some people give them credit for, they won't be burning their bread and butter just yet. There is a tab at the top named Community after all!:)

  • if people like you & me weren't valuable to YT, we would not have been included in the Partner programme.

I'm fairly optomistic about this change, as i said. But, i could be wrong...

It will make for an interesting couple of weeks, that's for sure :)

  • i did say that on some parts of my vid i cut out i mean if they didnt want us here anymore they could get rid of us in a flash.

  • I did have a funny feeling that this sort of thing was going to happen within Youtube. I was thinking that Yes Youtube and Google have to make money.

Things do change and people are afraid of change including me I will admit but it is for something.

Very true what you said Andy.

    Great Vlog.

  • One of the problems is that we've all become so attached to YT, that we don't want to see it change. We all feel it's 'our' site. Whcih obviously it isn't.

Change is inevitable i'm afraid. Some for the good & some of it for the bad. Let's hope this isn't the latter :)

  • Unfortunately I always thought it was a matter of time before youtube became mainstream and then changed to appeal to the lowest common denomenator.

    Great vlog Andy!

  • Whether you like it, or not. It's the future.

I just hope they leave a little corner of the site for us guys :)

  • well I got 2 more things how can you uploada video more then 11 minutes I uploaded a 13 minute video then it got rejected. -_- But wha has youtubee when saying to daisney

  • Being a Partner means i can upload videos longer than 10 minutes & bigger files too.

For me that's one of the best things about it :)

  • yeah thats a good thing. :)

  • well if it;'s going to be like HUlu it better be just like hulu or it's google version of hulu I'm just sayin I don't want youtube to suck like it already has. >_>

  • As is said, we can't get Hulu over here. So, i've no real idea what it's actually like :)

  • yeah your right.
