Hey, love your videos i've just started working on pipes from scratch, I'm working with cherry wood untill i feel much more comfortable with my work...no point in wasting good briar just yet. looking forwad to more vids!
@Flieger671 In the cabinet top left near the middle there is a large looking pipe standing up that I did not see in the video. What kind of pipe is it?
These spinning nozzles fascinate and drive me crazy ! Just in case I will add this video to my favorites, you never know what you will do next year...;-)
Flieger, its been some time since I last saw your vides, thank you for showing us this! I am a woodcarver, recently made an native american Orca shaped pipe, and painted it black and white, with only a drill like the one you showed
Its a good idea to make a video, I will take pictures of it, and will make one, of course it will not look as good as this live video but it will be something ha
@dohngl Thank you Dean. I'm pretty sure you are already past these types of videos. ;) I'm really looking forward to follow your casting process. If that goes well, I'm soon to follow that path.
Thanks for the info. I've been favoriting a lot of pipe carving videos for future reference. I'm hoping to try and carve one before farming starts next spring. Great video, I look forward to the next one.
@PipePedaler Thanks! Yes, I'm very happy to see that there are a number of videos on this topic out there now. When I started with my first pipe kit they where almost non existant. I hope you'll document your own pipe carving project when you get started.
@Naturainfinity Thanks Donna. $9.99 will be a bit hard for me to meet since I've spent more then that on materials alone... But don't worry, there will be a special price for the YT-crowd.
@genericsoul Mmm... I really don't have a good answer to that.... maybe it's part of the butterfly effect? ;) Looking forward to seeing what you do with your next pipe project.
Would it be possible to get this video in podcast format. Its really annoying to have to look at the video. I would much rather you just describe it in detail with just a still picture of a mountain side or something.
In all seriousness, I'm excited about this. A topic I've been researching lately. Thanks Mike!
@joelwashburn LOL! I feel that the podcast format is dead, but I'm going to try and get Mollophant to do an interpretive dance format of this series... hopefully with new music from Orchestralpipe and Puffpuffponder. :)
Great information Mike! Looking forward to this series. I'm hoping at some point in the series, you'll include something about using adhesives for a shank ring (between the briar shank and stem) wether it be wood or another material such as aluminum and how that process is done.
Cheers.
P.S. Glad to see this series will be in video format ; )
@astroman2112 Thank you James. I will definetely adress the topic of adhesives at some point. But the general concept is - 2-part Epoxi and make sure the surfaces are clean and (in the case of metals and plastics) rugged, to get a good grip. Put under pressure until joint is fully cured before working on the pipe.
Cheers.
P.S. This episode will also be released in Morse code. :)
I'm sure you've been researching and studying alot, Mike. This journey of yours is getting more and more interesting and I'm trully excited about the Flieger pipes to come.
@RequiemPipes Yes I have Gustavo. Pipe making isn't something you can just throw yourself into. I'm very happy to see that people enjoy following my steps into this area. Thanks for watching my friend!

Do you have a video of your pipe collection? I see something in the cabinet that looks like it might be wild. If so, could I get a link to see them?
SqueakerT 5 months ago
@SqueakerT Yes, I did one a while back (august 2010) called "My Pipes - Homage to Tim & Nico".

@SqueakerT Ah, that one! It's a Jirsa 107. Look for my video called "A new family member - Czech it out!" for a feature.
