  • Love the outfit and song. Countdown to when lady gaga rips it off 3, 2,1 .....

  • wonderful, a wonderment and so Neil. Love you Man. Why don't you tour in Dublin. We'd all love to see you. :)

  • was it neil innes that did a song called...they came from the sea , been trying to find it for ages...

  • @haileysvomit You're probably thinking of "Them". Lyrics are on Neil's site I'll try to message you a link.

  • I love Neil so much! This has to be one of the best songs ever! I love him! <3

  • Elton John said the Bonzo Dog Band was a big influence on him. Well, how bout that?

  • it nice to hear a song that doesnt have a second meaning something that you can just listen to and not have to figure it out. Its relaxing somewhat

  • Funny, but I can hear almost as much "Brooklyn Owes the Charmer" in this as "Border Song". Not that Innes was afraid to wrestle two genres at once.

  • this is such a great song. both musically and in the lyrics. The costume is also 'different' XD i want those glasses!

  • He sang about it everything! The song has changed my life!

  • England's finest and certainly most underrated singer/songwriter. I can't remember Neil doing a bad song.

  • Yes! I love this song so much! It always makes me laugh. And its fun to sing along to. Happy Birthday Neil!!!

  • It's a great song because on the surface it looks like an absurdist tossoff, but it's really a great moral lesson.

I thought about it a bit. Growing up in the West, we were always taught not to "take the Lord's name in vain." This song beautifully ups the ante, and adds value: It points out that all cursing of one's circumstances is based on a faulty premise--that the universe is at fault when you're unhappy--and reflects one's own personal issues.

And it does all this in a funny little song!

  • i forgot to mention: 238pounds!!!!!

  • when I just listened to the song and didn't watch it, it actually sounded normal. but when I watched it, all i could do is laugh. neil innes's voice is awesome! i could listen to it all day!

  • The risk of becoming known as a parodist(the Curse of the Rutles?)is that a greater talent like Mr. Innes becomes "typed," known for that alone(witness Weird Al). Having followed his career & seen him(solo)live, I want to stress that there is much more to him than this...that said, this is quite enjoyable.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHHA

    NICE GLASSES!

  • love this song and his voice!

    Thanks for uploading this!!!!!

  • if you saw Elton in Vegas lately, the red piano schtick, then you fully understand and appreciate what Neil is saying with this parody. the red piano show is a complete and utter disaster. and i'm an Elton John fan :)

  • haha "glasses" i get it

  • It is of course a spoof of the songwriter Neil calls "Bernie Torpid"

  • Love the "glasses".

  • Nobody sings gibberish so sincerely - genius

  • neil genius innes a man before during and still in his time rock on neil

  • very cold. and the line about "its not just doorknobs that come off in your hand," genius. and as usual, i really like the song. beats the hell out of original 'elt' any day. (... neil, hello.)

  • Neil Innes really has done some great things, hasn't he? I've always had a special place in my heart for Protest Song, too.

  • Elton's got nothing on Neil!! He's the man!

  • Ok, I'm an ignorant American and so I have a question- what's the pound meter on the side for? I mean, I get it, he's a silly Elton John, but "huh??" on the money meter on the side. Is that some new "how much the BBC wastes per second of this idiot program" guage mandated by a vengeful Thatcherite legislative initiative pushed through parlaiment or something?

  • I tink it's (in part) a reference to the digit counters in the pinball wizard scene in the movie Tommy. And if you look again, you'll see that the "pounds" increment after only 24 "pence", so it's really counting PAL video frames.

  • Oh, it's from Tommy. Heee, I thought it was an Elton John parody.

  • yeah, my step dad works withe a guy who played with neil innes

  • And...what does that have to do with anything? I mean, that's nice and all, but...

  • I think it's impressive :)

  • its actually from i think a sketch from early monty python blackmail sketch i could be wrong oh wel whatever

  • It's a sketch from Rutland Weekend Television, post Monty Python venture from Eric Idle.

  • "Anyhow, it's not just doorknobs that come off in your hand."

  • Along with Bill Bailey, Neil Innes is one the few people who can do comedy songs succesfully

  • Wow, I wonder if the glasses (GET IT?!) were his idea. I would bet so.

  • bless him!

    hehehe... very stylish attire

  • Would love to see more clips from The Inees Book of Records

  • Aww.. Neil Innes is so cute.. COOL I mean! Hehe..

I love this song.. And the glasses.. :P
