Linear games sucks because you will likely miss important items on the way and it will be too late to realize that when you progress in the game and there's no way to get them.
i like to buy my stuff from a shopkeeper, get side quest from people in towns. They all have their own little story. Having mini games is a plus also. Traveling freely and doing things in the order that you like. Exploring, finding new donjons. This game is nothing the old FF. Only thing better is the graphics.
@Light1090 lol i know what you mean im still at the begining of ffx13 but when i get to that part ima be a dumbass also and challenge it and only deal about 2 damage and get crushed in one hit also
FF13 for the most part, I loved it, it was something different for a change, it did have its flaws, but it is the step the series needed in order to grow, which is why FF14 is coming out this winter, they'll see what they did wrong with 13, fix it, and....thats it
it looks like someting from the new lost Planet game, mixed with a mammoth and an AT-AT vehicle from star wars. Too bad you can't use the force on this one :D
I went 20 hours into the game and was hugely disappointed because of it's linearity. I gave it to my brother so he could see for himself, and that same day he called me, telling me that after 30! hours of gameplay the game actually starts... Now I'm excited to get it back :D
I guess I can't argue with that. I guess enjoying the linear segment of FFXIII immensely makes me a little shallow then. I'm right on the verge of reaching the open(er) world (I think), so I wonder if I'll enjoy that more.
Then again, repetitive gameplay is repetitive gameplay, linear or not.
@killifish2000 Haha, I do have to tell you, after 20 hours it gets so amazingly interesting that the open world thing is a bit of a letdown, especially since the game is awesome and getting better up to the boss fight with Barthelandus.
Well I just reached the open world, got pounded by the ridiculously high-level monsters that inhabit it, and rage quit. Gone off to play me some Persona 4 and Monster Hunter 3. Anywho, it seems that I'm finding the open segment instantly less enjoyable. It's also not that pretty, which is weird for FFXIII.
What do I do? Grind? Evade all the monsters? I do have a hell of a lot of crystarium waiting to be filled, so grinding seems like a pretty attractive option.
@killifish2000 Actually the missions are fanned out and start snowballing as soon as you finish the first one, others open up and stuff. There are also Cie'th waystones, something like teleporters, but don't ask me. All I can say is that the Gran Pulse world is beautiful, especially if you turn south into the Yascha Massif(or so), just do the missions and enjoy yourself.
i wanna see a youtube video of somebody beating one of these you have to have wicked strong characters and tyime ur attacks so that ur in the air when he stomps bcuz then it wont affect you
@JSGAMELORD. I got this link from the PS forums. You said something about the real fun begins after you beat FF13. By this, do you mean that there is a New Game+ option or do you get to go back to Pulse after your done with the game?
@Wimbohesma While I both love FFXIII and have a PC, I can't get over the stupidity of your comment. How obsurd is it that a "nerd with a PC" cannot "barely" run youtube? It was nerds with PCs that created Youtube™ you fool lol.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The game still linear .
You show us a big space not an open world .
You can run in the space for all directions ok but can you do anything else in this huge space ? no . all you can do is running to this huge monster right ?
ok this game isn't even out (except japan) meaning you most likely have NOT played it yet...and yet you're still bitching about it? really? without playing it?
People are blowing this whole too linear thing way out of proportion. Sure, it is a flaw, but it's not like it ruins the whole game. It just means that there's less wasted space because in the other games, you have no reason to revisit a dungeon or town once you've been through it. If anything, I find huge open worlds to be unnecessary.
Yeah i know what you mean, the only thing i miss about the open world map is how it was in FF7. :P
I remember everytime you saw a new cave, or village or something on the map you got all exicited and couldn't wait to get there! :P It ain't like that in the new FF games, i hope they somehow implent it into the FF7 Remake. Just remake the open world map, but make you travel in it like FF13. XD Would be sweet !
@PsychoKrazyTime lol FF games have always been linear in the beginning. FFX was very linear until you hit the airship. FFX was a masterpiece. Im still getting 13
You only get to go to this field before the last boss. As the whole game is pretty much one long corridor with no hidden secrets and you are forced to fight everything in your path you gain enough xp to pretty much max out all your skills etc., meaning no character customization/variation. The auto-attack function also puts in the most efficient commands for you, making pressing anything but forward and x/a in the game very rare. It's not so much a game as it is an interactive graphic novel.
good point, FFX is the best FF to date in my opinion but nethertheless 13 is exeptional, maybe it's a little linear at first but it's not as if the story's not engrossing and once u get 2 pulse it all opens up, truly great game in my opinion. p.s. the battle systems' the most innovative I've seen in a while in an RPG, hats off 2 SQUARE
@haggiss I never said I liked it, I just said people were overreacting. One year later, people are still bitching about it. It was linear, who cares. All games are linear to a certain extent. If people didn't like it, that's ok, I won't tell people what to like or not like. I just said that it doesn't ruin the entire game, and it doesn't.
@PsychoKrazyTime yeah cos everyone LOVES linear in an rpg, who wants open worlds they can explore??? fuck that why would I want the freedom to do anything other than run in a straight line? plus who needs towns to visit??? its not like they add depth to the game and give a break from repititive grinding or anything
@haggiss Wow, you didn't even read what I said. I can't stand people like you who bitch about everything. I NEVER SAID THE LINEARITY WAS AWESOME AND YOU SHOULD LOVE IT. Maybe all caps would help you understand better, but obviously you're too stupid to understand simple sentence comprehension. Jesus kid get over it already, it's just a game. Don't play it and don't watch videos about it if you don't like it because you make yourself out to be a fool.
@PsychoKrazyTime hey man i agreed with you i cant stand non linear games ethier, i mean who the fuck do the developers think they are by creating a non linear world that can be explored by the players own free will. NO NEVER game developers MUST force us where to go and what to do, I just love a game that is 99% grinding or cutescenes.
@haggiss For some people the linear aspects of the game can be a bit refreshing. It also adds a bit more to the situation at hand; to the people in Sanctum, these people were all cursed fugitives to be avoided at all costs - it makes little sense for them to visit towns when there is no meaning to it. Now while I love open world games, XIII makes good use of it's linearity to tell a good story without bullshitting. 'sides, all FF games are pretty much linear.
@RIDERblack1000 yeah cos everyone LOVES linear in an rpg, who wants open worlds they can explore??? fuck that why would I want the freedom to do anything other than run in a straight line? plus who needs towns to visit??? its not like they add depth to the game and give a break from repititive grinding or anything

@PsychoKrazyTime Open world (like in a world map) maybe yes, but towns?? No... it's just extra immersive if you can visit towns, relax, walk around and talk to the people. God I miss the FF9 days. :(
