i LOVE the movies. They're amazing and unique. Seriously, they got me into Transformers as a whole: BECAUSE OF THE MOVIES! Seriously, my favorite movies in the world. i absolutely LOVE LOVE them. I cant wait for TF4. Theres something so unique about the plot of the alien robots coming to earth with the good autobots and dcons. and the movie makes THAT realistic. at times it really feels real when im watching it :D i just get so into it.
The first two films were preference-based summer blockbuster films that took a cheesy brand from the '80s and turned it into something a little more badass...It's no 2001: A Space Odyssey, but I did enjoy the first two. The dialogue of the first was most definitely the best of the two (I'm not going to acknowledge the third)...It's not a bad movie. The action sequences are amazing and there are some good elements to it...It's not artistic; it's not good or bad. It's just a popcorn flick.
Its fine to people who Transformers 2 but in my opinion Transformers 2 is so bad it definitely one of the worst films ever made. It makes the first one look like a masterpiece. Transformers 1 and Dark Of the Moon are the ones I liked but not Transformers 2. I think Michael Bay was on drugs when he made Transformers 2. Im serious it is that bad.
Another funny thing I noticed. When you said that the disguises weren't well-done, it made me think of how in action movies men usually have the six-pack abs and the women usually have the big breasts, because it's appealing and awesome to look at. That's how I thought of the disguises while I do agree that they were very cheesy.
I regard the whole thing as a mixed blessing. I was thirteen when the first movie was released and when I saw the trailer (I was young and stupid) I liked it because I love action and fighting films. So, I decided to look into the franchise itself (I have the entire G1 series on DVD and two very rare comics!), and I thought it (the franchise) was awesome. But yeah, looking back, the movie could've been MUCH better.

What I hated about the movies was that there was little or no development on the transformers end. I mean in the first movie when Jazz dies it was almost like who cares. Jazz was a favorite of mine as a kid and he was turned to a kind of side note in the movie. Also there was no sense of tension between Megatron and Starscream. Starscream always wanted to supplant Megatron and take leadership over the decepticons. The movies could have been more than what they were which was only flashy effects.
You have no clue at all of what plot holes are, and you don't know shit abouut military weaponry "they have these uzis that somehow kill the decepticons..." have you ever actually seen what an uzi looks like, and the ammunition that they use are sabot rounds which have a lot of kinetic energy to penetrate most armored vehicles they aren't missles, they are just speciallized rounds for armor penetration. I am not trying to insult you, but i'm 16 and know a lot more about movies and the military.

To a whiny Transformers fanboy, I can see how someone hated the first film, even thought it overall was a good film to someone that never cared for Transformers in the first place. There's a reason why Roger Ebert gave Transformers 3/4 stars and gave Transformers ROTF 1/4 stars. Both films were worthy of their scores. He didn't give the first film 3 out of 4 stars for no reason.

His typically conformist mindset, and general lack of vision really show in Titanic and Avatar (which only succeeded due to the over-use of special effects). It is pretty fair to say that we are living in the worst years of film-making, where the truly talented (e.g. Kevin Smith, Sam Raimi) are regularly upstaged by hacks like Bay and Cameron.

A truck with flames painted on its sides will get my attention, however, I am not going to suspect its a transforming robot from another planet, so robots in disguise will still work. Megatron transforming into a jet (much faster than a tank) will work and that makes more sense.

The bots did have personality. Jazz had personality, just as much personality as he had in the toon. I agree with the person who uploaded this page concerning Michael Bay's directing skills. Sci-Fi can be just as thought provoking and moving as any other genre. Just look at District9, Star Wars, Avatar and 2001 Space Odyssey. C'mon folks, just admit it Michael Bay sucks. However, I will objectively say that his action sequences are a little above mediocre.

@transformerdude4251 Sorry, but that award doesnt really mean so much, because japanese made toys and basic background (which was many times changed), story and character development were made by Americans. You know, I have never, ever watched any episode from original series and watched Michael Bays movie first, and I still think that Transformers the movie from 1987 is superior to his movie in every way (except action, maybe).

I mean, come on robots get frozen while they fly through the cold of space? Robots pissing on people? I would honestly watch the old 80s series any day, and choose it over the new movie.

I'll take this Transformers movie, over the movie where the Autobots are getting fucked in the dick, like in the GEEWUN movie. The 1986 film is some of the most awful shit I've seen, completely one sided and rife with commercialism, even more so than Bay's movies, 95% of the characters we've come to know and love (All Autobots, only one Deception dies) killed of to be replaced by carbon copies, and sell more toys. Prime be ashamed, take of your nostalgia goggles, and judge fairly, or not at all.

There is no explanation for that,thats not science fiction,thats fantasy In G1,they had to spend alot of effort to give something a consciousness, or in beast wars they explained that they had to scan for DNA, and form the animal parts on a fragile protoform. It didn't just happen. Or how bumblebee saw the new Camaro, and just became it. How do you build a new Camaro going down the road instantly?

That's half true. The original transfoermers toys were japanese toys. They were brought to america and all made on brand and the story came out. The toys didn't come out in america before the cartoona nd comics. I'm pretty sure the first issue of the comci came out before the toys released.

What I hated about the movies was that there was little or no development on the transformers end. I mean in the first movie when Jazz dies it was almost like who cares. Jazz was a favorite of mine as a kid and he was turned to a kind of side note in the movie. Also there was no sense of tension between Megatron and Starscream. Starscream always wanted to supplant Megatron and take leadership over the decepticons. The movies could have been more than what they were which was only flashy effects.

You have no clue at all of what plot holes are, and you don't know shit abouut military weaponry "they have these uzis that somehow kill the decepticons..." have you ever actually seen what an uzi looks like, and the ammunition that they use are sabot rounds which have a lot of kinetic energy to penetrate most armored vehicles they aren't missles, they are just speciallized rounds for armor penetration. I am not trying to insult you, but i'm 16 and know a lot more about movies and the military.

Transformers 1 was a good movie but the 2nd was HORRIBLE!!!
I completely understand how people hated the 2nd movie (cuz it obviously sucked) But what I don't understand is how so many people thought the 1st movie wasn't that good either. TF1 was pretty good and Michael Bay's directorial ability on the 1st movie was more on line with Spielberg & George Lucas. It felt like I was watching E.T. all over again.
But with TF2, Michael Bay just went back to being Michael Bay again

You say how Megatron should transform into tank. Why a tank? in Beast Wars hes a T-rex. in Cybertron hes a car. in animated hes a helicopter. so why a tank? G1/Beast Era Unicron Trilogy Animated and movieverse. You say how the autobots aren't like their G1 selves , Optimus Prime is the heroic leader like in G1, Jazz is like a coolcat like in G1, Bumblebee is the bot with the most humans like in G1. Ironhide isa old veteran like in G1 and Ratchet is the medic bot like in G1

To a whiny Transformers fanboy, I can see how someone hated the first film, even thought it overall was a good film to someone that never cared for Transformers in the first place. There's a reason why Roger Ebert gave Transformers 3/4 stars and gave Transformers ROTF 1/4 stars. Both films were worthy of their scores. He didn't give the first film 3 out of 4 stars for no reason.

His typically conformist mindset, and general lack of vision really show in Titanic and Avatar (which only succeeded due to the over-use of special effects). It is pretty fair to say that we are living in the worst years of film-making, where the truly talented (e.g. Kevin Smith, Sam Raimi) are regularly upstaged by hacks like Bay and Cameron.

I agree there were a few problems with the SECOND movie, but I still even enhoy that one. In my opinion you are totally wrong with this review. bottom line. vehicles transforming into robots looks FUCKING AMAZING!! and explosions are very cool to see.
it was the "HOLY SHIT!!" factor that allowed me to watch this movie again and again. but if the transformers were replaced by talking gorillas i probably would not have seen this 3 times in theaters and 4 times on DVD so far lol

A truck with flames painted on its sides will get my attention, however, I am not going to suspect its a transforming robot from another planet, so robots in disguise will still work. Megatron transforming into a jet (much faster than a tank) will work and that makes more sense.

The bots did have personality. Jazz had personality, just as much personality as he had in the toon. Did you see Revenge of the Fallen? probably not. if you've seen it, then you would eat your words on personality. At times some had too much. plus the Transformers shouldnt have too much personality cause then they would be too humanized. Look Im all about G1 and the True Transformers movie. I've been a Fan since I was kid, I just look at it as what it is.

dude you overthink too much. Transformers has and always been about cool cars that turn into giant robots. Its a simple concept and a simple movie. Theres is nothing deep about Transformers. Nothing. Both of these movies were amazing. Stop looking for more.

uh well there had cool cars that turned into GIANTROBOTS. Cullen is great, Prime was great. If your talking about writing than I agree with you. Bay to me could use a better writing team. But Transformers has never been about story anyway. and if you talking about too many humans, I mean you need humans to be able to relate to the story in some way. even if its that minor.

I would love to see a Transformers movie that's completely free of Michael Bay. (And his screenrwriters, and Megan Fox and Shia LeBoeuf.)
I mean, they can do superhero movies that the public AND critics like. So why not a Transformers one? Why should it have to be stupid because it's an unusual concept? Because even Transformers fans seem to somehow think it should be loud and stupid in live action. Which baffles me. You'd think THEY would want better.
