That opening used to be a big deal for those of us who didn't get to the movies much, or who didn't have a VCR yet. It was often the first time a lot of us even saw some major motion pictures. The only caveat being the whole "Edited for Television" thing. And even that meant that sometimes our parents would let us watch something that they definitely wouldn't have taken us to the movies to see.
When and why did they add the episode IV, V & VI titles to the films well before the prequels even existed. I'm aware they are on the 1997 re-releases but, this was 1989. Had he been planning them for 10 or more years in advance? My old CBS/Fox VHS tapes don't have these titles but the 1997 tapes do. Just curious...
At the end of movies, there was a guy with a typewriter who threw a paper away and it flew away and turned into a logo at the end...what network was that on?...Anyone know how I can search for it?...
@rocksvids08 It wasn't a network promo. It was the logo for Steven J. Cannell Productions which produced many network shows over the years. I think most of them aired on NBC.
Awesome. Haven't seen that intro since it first aired. The tape I recorded it on wore out from me watching it so much. I remember putting a cassette player and recording that intro to tape and listening to it a lot as well.
This premired on Easter weekend of 1989. NBC thought it would beat ABC's ratings, on "The Ten Commandments". But, God was stronger than "the force" that night. Moses beat it in the ratings (LOL).
@DimeraFan28 You can either wait until it comes out in 2016 in 3-D (after the other five each year before that) or you can go to Star Wars Celebration in Orlando August 2012, if they show them again like they did last year.
television stations live like on maybe Three of these network television stations for example most specifically CBS, NBC, AND or Possibly Fox Network. I have seen episode 2 attack of the clones on fox network actually 3 times with some scenes actually edited out for commercials and maybe even content. Well feel free to reply positively on my comments.
it came on. I do that pretty much with any movie that I one of my favorites. Well I wanted to say thank you very much for posting this old NBC sunday night at the movies. Yeah this was actually a year or less before my birth in july of 1990 but what I wished sometimes I could actually do is travel back in time to the year of these time period and see what everything looked like back than. Yeah I would actually pretty it if someone would show the movie Revenge of the Sith on one of the network
at first before being given that name which is technically really the 4th episode of the saga despite it being the first film released) I certainly have watched it many times not only video and even when I had the video on several syndicate television stations and (maybe even network television but i don't think so except for a preview of before the viewed it on cbs which I was not born yet at the time) and they would WGN, WPIX, maybe a little bit on UPN 13, KWGN, TBS, KTLA, and whatever station
when they re-leased it in theaters even though it is a pretty old film released on May 25 and in the year of 1977 oh yeah. yeah I saw it with my grandmother when i believe she was in either her late 50's or 60's. Yeah those incredible science fiction films have been around for so long. Don't forget I know pretty much every about the movie star wars and when it was released. Yeah I certainly have seen the original and first star wars (A new hope when it was released as just the name star wars
I would definitely always watch star wars on TV whenever it came on even though I had the vhs tapes of it of yeah which i do still have. Sometimes oh yeah I just did not care how late it was and I just wanted to watch oh yeah and did not even care if dad said we have this on tape. Trust me I still do love star wars and have grown up the enjoyment of this film at that same time. I was actually born in 1990 but I did see the first star wars film when it was remastered in a movie theater in 1997
I just wanted to tell you oh yeah I am such an experienced fan of the star wars movies and expanded universe. Yeah when these movies came on television oh yeah especially network television or syndicate television channels I was always so excited to watch all the star wars film. I remember when I was in 5th grade of 2002 and I remember being so excited when I saw Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, oh yeah and episode one the phantom menace menace fox quite a few times.
Fox showed the last two of the original series plus TPM in 2002. That is when i seen them for the first time. CBS showed the orginal Star Wars in 1983, NBC showed Empire in 1987, and ROTJ in 1989.
@efan2011 Yeah I have never forgotten that I sure do remember that and that time in 2002 they were like 24 years of star wars. I saw all of those movies.
Respond to this video...but I have seen the original star wars on WGN chicago station, WPIX New York, KWGN Colorado and whatever else foreign broadcast channel in the united states. I love the movie a lot and oh yeah they did show it ON TBS SUPERSTATION before as well.
I remember TBS used to have it as well. That was when I was small and had no idea what was going on, i just remember loving all of it. I wish TBS still had the rights to all of them but Spike is doing a good job
@efan2011 That is what I am saying too of course they used to broadcast it on TBS and yeah I agree spike is doing a pretty good job of course. Believe when I was that age I used to always prepare myself for movies like that when they came on television. I did not care if I just had the video or not I watched it NO MATTER WHAT and YEAH. Apparently episode III Revenge of the Sith has not yet been broadcast on any of the tv broadcast channels and have only showed it along with all the rest of the
@efan2011 Oh Yeah this was how I was finding out when movies were on television and I still do sometimes I check the television schedules on or the actors current month tv schedule.
As stupid as it sounds I still remember the words that went with this promo.....The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly clash.....good luck, youre gonna need it...Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher star in the greatest Star Wars spectacle Ever.....
Its at least very close, I haven't seen it in a good 20 years...I was 7 when this aired on TV.
i remember this, i was 9 and very excited for this, my mom wanted to slap me. i think nbc did a "trilogy" weekend leading up to this. i could be wrong. i missed nbc doing movies on sundays.
