@firerzero No. A CAI, is a snap and go kinda thing. I'm about to put one on my 2002 Mustang GT today. The engine is stock, no what so ever mods. And I am not using a tuner. Only if your looking for the best out of the CAI do you need tuner. And you do not need any other mods. I have worked on Mustangs for 8 years. And the CAI is the easiest thing to install! Good luck man!
I just install a CAI in my Mustang. I live in California. Do you know If I will pass the Smog Check. The computer is all the same just the pipes and the filter is different.
When you remove the mass air flow sensor, there is a metal filter I'm trying to put my stock air intake back because I have this kit but it wastes double the gas.
i put a intake to my 318ti and for some reason it either my my catalyc converter burn or brake, cus at first when i ran it, it made a few popping sounds when i pulled over and check, the converter was smoking and it turned black in a few spots, can anyone help?
@Daproblem187 make sure its a gt, my 97 toyota avalon all stock can beat a v6 mustang lol. I love american muscle, I just said that for your safety, I don't want some ricer bagging you lol
What terrible advice. The biggest restriction is the MAF sensor. All you have done is fit a filter with a much smaller surface area and bigger holes - that means LESS FILTERED AIR going to the engine. the original filter surface area is 13 times what you fitted and passes more air than the engine can use at full RPM. Stop misleading people by talking about diameter of tubes and extra BHP. *NOISE* MEANS RESTRICTION. You have *REDUCED* airflow and power & are allowing dirt in to the engine!!!!!
I have a 92 and i have to mount my filter underneath, also its very hard to fit, the hole is more of an oval shape and i cant get the tube in the filter. where is this how to maintain your mustang vol 1?
Do you have to take off the negative cable of the battery before doing this? I have seen videos that say that you have to do it and others that don't say either way.
Ram gets more hp but ur putting hot air into the engine which isn't good. Cold air gets less horsepower but cooler air in te engine. One isn't better than the other,
I would really enjoy hearing a K&N CAI with your videos. I instaled one with my 02 v6 stang but It doesnt really sound good. Could you guys do a video. I would really appreciate
@ChrisJohnson2014 thanks for the comment but I do not plan to do another intake install video besides this and the BBK I show on my DVD. Although it may not sound as good/loud the K&N products are nice. I have a K&N intake on my S2000 and love it.
Great Video Bro! do you think I can Run this Setup on my 04 P71 iv,e tried to order a Kit but nobody sells one for my Ride will it mess up the Comp chip Read ? or mess up passing Smog tests in cali ? I met a Guy that Ran the tubing all the way through down to the front Grille will this mod work on a 04 p71 ? thnx
k.i have a 1992 jetta..and i need to go back and get an adapter for the mass flow sensor..but i have a question about a house that runs under the air box??? a hot air intake of some sort? can i just get rid of this or what?? pls respond..thanks
WTF dude? I did all your instructions and then towards the end my car is in pieces and you say if you need to install it from the bottom then buy my DVD
Man I REALLY want to do this during my break before summer semester starts again to my 91 Pontiac 6000 but i'm just scared i'm gonna mess up on something or the other haha. Either way i'm gonna go for it. How do I know which air intake system to buy or are they like a one size fits all?
Yea i installed mine and you really cant use the a/c when i push the gas the ac goes away then comes back but i have my windows down. I can hear the air blowing in like a turbo
@mrfordexplorer97 I did not understand a fucking word you just said dude. Work on your grammar holy shit haha. and i'm not saying i don't like mustangs they are cool looking cars. They are just slow as all hell...
Hey guys, I installed a performance intake on my 2007 Mitsubishi Galant in an attempt to improve gas mileage. I've driven it 1000 miles with the intake on and now i'm getting horrible gas mileage (15mpg compared to 25mpg b4 the install). The intake is the only thing i've done to my car. Any advice? I just cleaned by Mass Airflow Sensor, and the Intake filter itself. I'm not flooring the gas pedal at all. I'd appreciate any advice. Thank you.
i got a question. how exactly does a cold air intake decrease the temperature of intake air. I mean the stock air box has more fins = greater surface area = more heat loss, that's why i reckon it would be a more effective intake system than a CAI. Of course I know i'm wrong or else companies like AEM would'nt have been that big :) lol. is the trick is placing the intake conical fins away from the engine bay? please someone clarify this point for me?! thnx
Ok so when i bought my 2000 mustang there wasnt that bolt that holds the cai to the body will this affect anything or can i get another i tried the 5/16 machine screw and wont go in need help thx
approximately how much power gain will cold air intake give a naturally aspirated engine? would this be the first cheap power enhancing mod i should get or can someone suggest another i should get first?
@1994fergo for my stang im getting a CAi and tuner first, usually a CAI gives maybe 7-10 but with custom tunes from bama you can get like 20-30. Tuners arent cheap but CAIs arent bad so id go for that first.
Want to boost your site sales? It is a well kept secret that all big sites have an affiliate program,My advice would be the GAS system,Because the setup requires not code knowledge at all,GAS-AFFILIATEdotCOM is where it's at.
@hoovalappa In theory a CAI can give you better fuel economy if it is truly more efficient and you drive it the same as before you installed it. The main problem is it's fun to tip the throttle a little bit to hear the new sound!
@gripz106 Cold air intakes put the filter somewhere away from the engine bay (in this case the fender well). Short ram intakes place the intake in the engine bay which reduces bends and may be louder (but they may pull in more heat if not shielded well)
@AutoHowTV ya i got install and the filter was underneath my fender...give horsepower but replacing the filter is pain in the ass i have to remove the tire just to have room to put new one in overall its great upgrade..
@veedabestchef If you are tired of replacing the filter buy a K&N performance filter then you don't have to replace it just simply wash it out every now and then.
@gripz106 cold air intake is only a name its actually hotter than stock because metal absorbs heat better than plastic (stock) pipe tubbing (unless u get your air far as far away as you can from the motor because its hot in there)
@halohadel uhh yeah you do ? i installed the intake myself dude there is a hole but the filter wouldnt fit through it so i had to take the tire off and go through the back
@sillymonsterfromthe4 Puddles and water seem to be more of an issue for cars that put them really low or right in front of the radiator. I've driven through some HUGE puddles (water splashed in through shifter area the one time) and no issues. Granted, anything is possible but these are some of the safest, true CAIs I have seen.
@AutoHowTv i have a rally car project and im concerned about something, if i do go with cold air will puddles and possibly some mud get the the cold air intake filter?
@sillymonsterfromthe4 No ... thats what the filter is for ..... most filters .. well mine has a metal wired casing around the filter itself ... if that doesnt help the splash well above the tire will keep any water or anything from hitting the filter
@McDeeViouz Haha, gloves do make things harder sometimes. Until you've bust a bunch of knuckles you may not appreciate them as much. But for easy installs like this it keeps my hands from reflecting light and washing out the video too much. ;)
@AutoHowTV I have a 2003 GT. I really fancy doing the CAI thing but the whole `check engine light` thing puts me off. Running lean and so forth. Whats the deal here? Why do they suffer from relatively minor changes when other cars don`t?
Wound up having to take my tire off and go under the wheel well to get the filter on .. and the tube that goes onto the throttle body was a tight fit due to an air conditioner hose
This is all I have on my 96 v8 gt and it does make your car sound like it gots balls and I haven't lost yet! I even beat a supercharged civic pretty sad for the civic. I recommend buying this
Hey, how do you like those mechanix gloves? Are they to bulky to unscrew small bolts by hand? Are they cumbersome? how do you wash them lol water hose?
@Taco10Bell water can damage the MAF sensor if submerged or something extreme happened...91,000 miles on my GT (shown at the end of the video) and no MAF/water issues
@AutoHowTV All I did was spray down my air intake with a regular garden hose to clean it, come to think of it though, i might have been smart enough to not spray down the MAF sensor. haha
@AutoHowTV Alright, I have a major issue. The smaller coupler you use to wrap around the throttle body doesn't fit. It's way too lose even when tighten. The metal pipe just comes right out. Why is this?
@The01MustangV6 not sure if you are using the same kit as the video but you may need to double check that you are using the smaller coupler for the throttle body see 2:40 and not the larger one as required around 7:12
@AutoHowTV I figured it out, it's all good now. I was reading on am that since I don't have the air temp sensor I will need to have that plug covered to keep out dirty air. What do you recommend?
@The01MustangV6 I forget exactly what people use to plug the hole (my car does not have the sensor either) but my BBK intake came with the plugs. Give AM a call and they should know.
You dont need a tutorial for this, im 14 and I installed a bbk intake on my dads GT in less than an hour.
Also If your getting this intake, I sugjest a bbk 75 0r 78mm throttle body and plenum, you will get the most out of the larger diameter intake, and If you incounter heat problem with the intake exhaust heat wrap works great.

@AutoHowTV lmao sweet, quick question, do you guys have a video for installing this but in a 97 civic? just because my intake hole goes up, instead of the "regular" to the left (passenger side)
@dylanpawl sorry just the Mustang and 350Z...but most intakes are similar in the end. Combine this video with printed instructions and you should be able to install it no problem!
hey man 2 questions. im installing a CAI (this one actually) for my friend on his 03 v6 mustang. i installed an AEM bruite force intake for my 02 GT. is the CAI going to be harder? And i was also thinking about ordering Black LeMans racing stripes for my mineral Grey GT. would that look good? i saw some pictures and thought it did. just wanted your opinion. and also tips on installing vinal 'mustang' bumper inserts. if you could give me any tips on installing those that would be great
@FordsBetter516 Ram air intakes are usually easier. CAI are a little tougher (my first Maintain Your Mustang DVD covers install on the GTs) Black on mineral gray is nice. Kind of a Gone in 60 seconds Eleanor flavor. Bumper inserts are just like any vinyl...keep it wet and work from the inside of the letter out. Use a credit card wrapped in a soft cloth or some kits may include a squeegee blade to push out the water. I imagine there are some writeups on this
more power isnt this simple when you have a maf sensor like that, my mazda didnt get any diffrence :/ but my camrys that dont have them, and they responded well :D
hey i just got my cold air intake and i was reading that the itnake temperature sensor on 2001 mustangs are located inside the MAF sensor. beign that i have a 2001 what do i do with the hole in the itnake tubing that the temp sensor usually plugs into? please help
@coolmoney11 You might not learn performance installs as part of a standard auto tech program but you will know everything so well these installs will be cake!
too bad these metal intake systems will actually make u lose horsepower when the engine is warm. it does this because the underhood heat warms up the intake tube, thus heating the incoming air. wrap it with some intake/header wrap and problem solved.
@alandona3 Good point. I had a forum post similar to this on the main autohowtv site. I do recommend a plastic aftermarket intake when available. Especially in warm climates
@mviaya sorry I didn't reply sooner. FYI I have a DVD that covers Tune Ups and one of the items we review is installing an aftermarket filter from underneath the vehicle. Do a search for "Maintain Your Mustang" and you should find it. Also covers spark plugs, fuel filters, etc.
i just bought an intake for and a throttle spacer for my 3.8 v6 mustang. This video helped a lot on how to install the intake. But im having trouble installing the spacer. can anyone help?
@dirtbikemike69 and you clicked on this video why? if you already know how? Just curious lol. Everyone starts somewhere buddy, its not like people are born mechanics, you have to work your way up.
how would u change the filter?i mean with stock all u had to do is take off the two clips an put in the filter, just curious.and would autozone or o reillys have a replacement air filter for this brand
i have a 1999 infinnity g20 twin cam 16 vuvle engine...wuld i have to buy in new intake for a new spectrum air filter.? i cant use that same original intake for the new filter.?
@AutoHowTV hey i got the same BBK intake and i think the my air filter is different from yours. Mine was for my 2000 v6 mustang and for some reason im pretty sure they gave me the wrong one. When i installed it i literally had to ram it inside instead of slip it in like you did. You think im missing out on my cold air intake because of the overly large air filter? and do you think i should replace it with the replacement filter that is the correct size?
@XSoulscarz53X you arent missing out on your cold air intake with the larger air filter. A larger air filter will give u more horsepower than a smaller filter.
Great vid mate i have a 2002 mustang 3.8 v6 ive put a duel exit exsturt on but thats it how do i get more power and do you really think the c.a.i will give it more power n sound better with the twin exturts im in england do u know what cai is best to put on thanks carl .
hey nice video 10/10 but i have a question to autohow tv or anyone that can help me out does installing the Cold air intake waste more gas or does it help it like gas officiant thanks
hey nice video 10/10 but i have a question to auto how or anyone that can answer it does installing the cold air intake waste more gas or does it actually give it more fuel officiant thanks
some may reduce the work the engine does to pull in air, in which case you will see more hp OR better gas mileage. How you drive it will determine which one you get! Obviously driving it slower will improve mpg
Can someone please answer this! If you get a CAI for your car, does it replace the stock air filter? please and thanks

Hey, how do you like those mechanix gloves? Are they to bulky to unscrew small bolts by hand? Are they cumbersome? how do you wash them lol water hose?
MonteLSV6 1 year ago
would water damage any part of the Mass Airflow Sensor? i think mine might have gotten wet at one point.
Taco10Bell 1 year ago
@Taco10Bell water can damage the MAF sensor if submerged or something extreme happened...91,000 miles on my GT (shown at the end of the video) and no MAF/water issues
AutoHowTV 1 year ago
@AutoHowTV All I did was spray down my air intake with a regular garden hose to clean it, come to think of it though, i might have been smart enough to not spray down the MAF sensor. haha

This is by far the mest intake install tutorial .. great video 5 stars .. !!!!

Of course my 2001 Mustang doesn't come with the air temperature sensor. Where do I get one?
The01MustangV6 1 year ago
@The01MustangV6 if you don't have one then your computer doesn't need it...one less step!
AutoHowTV 1 year ago
@AutoHowTV Alright, I have a major issue. The smaller coupler you use to wrap around the throttle body doesn't fit. It's way too lose even when tighten. The metal pipe just comes right out. Why is this?
The01MustangV6 1 year ago
@The01MustangV6 not sure if you are using the same kit as the video but you may need to double check that you are using the smaller coupler for the throttle body see 2:40 and not the larger one as required around 7:12
AutoHowTV 1 year ago
@AutoHowTV I figured it out, it's all good now. I was reading on am that since I don't have the air temp sensor I will need to have that plug covered to keep out dirty air. What do you recommend?
The01MustangV6 1 year ago
@The01MustangV6 I forget exactly what people use to plug the hole (my car does not have the sensor either) but my BBK intake came with the plugs. Give AM a call and they should know.
AutoHowTV 1 year ago
@AutoHowTV I'll do just that. Thanks!

@AutoHowTV I found out the thing I need is called a crankcase breather, but I don't know what size I need. Would you know?

You dont need a tutorial for this, im 14 and I installed a bbk intake on my dads GT in less than an hour.
Also If your getting this intake, I sugjest a bbk 75 0r 78mm throttle body and plenum, you will get the most out of the larger diameter intake, and If you incounter heat problem with the intake exhaust heat wrap works great.

@dylanpawl haha, thanks. Sometimes I forget to remove it for the install. I recommend Skagen--my favorite watch so far!
AutoHowTV 1 year ago
@AutoHowTV lmao sweet, quick question, do you guys have a video for installing this but in a 97 civic? just because my intake hole goes up, instead of the "regular" to the left (passenger side)
dylanpawl 1 year ago
@dylanpawl sorry just the Mustang and 350Z...but most intakes are similar in the end. Combine this video with printed instructions and you should be able to install it no problem!

hey man 2 questions. im installing a CAI (this one actually) for my friend on his 03 v6 mustang. i installed an AEM bruite force intake for my 02 GT. is the CAI going to be harder? And i was also thinking about ordering Black LeMans racing stripes for my mineral Grey GT. would that look good? i saw some pictures and thought it did. just wanted your opinion. and also tips on installing vinal 'mustang' bumper inserts. if you could give me any tips on installing those that would be great
FordsBetter516 1 year ago
@FordsBetter516 Ram air intakes are usually easier. CAI are a little tougher (my first Maintain Your Mustang DVD covers install on the GTs) Black on mineral gray is nice. Kind of a Gone in 60 seconds Eleanor flavor. Bumper inserts are just like any vinyl...keep it wet and work from the inside of the letter out. Use a credit card wrapped in a soft cloth or some kits may include a squeegee blade to push out the water. I imagine there are some writeups on this

more power isnt this simple when you have a maf sensor like that, my mazda didnt get any diffrence :/ but my camrys that dont have them, and they responded well :D

do you learn this if you study for a car mechanic?
coolmoney11 1 year ago
@coolmoney11 You might not learn performance installs as part of a standard auto tech program but you will know everything so well these installs will be cake!
AutoHowTV 1 year ago
too bad these metal intake systems will actually make u lose horsepower when the engine is warm. it does this because the underhood heat warms up the intake tube, thus heating the incoming air. wrap it with some intake/header wrap and problem solved.
alandona3 1 year ago
@alandona3 Good point. I had a forum post similar to this on the main autohowtv site. I do recommend a plastic aftermarket intake when available. Especially in warm climates

mviaya 1 year ago
@mviaya sorry I didn't reply sooner. FYI I have a DVD that covers Tune Ups and one of the items we review is installing an aftermarket filter from underneath the vehicle. Do a search for "Maintain Your Mustang" and you should find it. Also covers spark plugs, fuel filters, etc.

@dirtbikemike69 and you clicked on this video why? if you already know how? Just curious lol. Everyone starts somewhere buddy, its not like people are born mechanics, you have to work your way up.

specops3866 1 year ago
@dirtbikemike69 while in theory it should be bleedin obvious, and most cars it is, some are a little tricky on how to get some crap out of the way

what if i buy an intake from like autozone or advanced auto parts, will those work, or should i just get one made for those year mustangs.

I would recommend one built for your Mustang. That ensures you have the right connections and MAF housing
AutoHowTV 1 year ago
@AutoHowTV i have an AEM bruite force intake. its done nothing but wonders for my car. MPG's and hp have been a gain. would a CAI do anything more?
FordsBetter516 1 year ago
does this fit on a jeep cherokee? if not can you tell what kit will fit one?
persons233 1 year ago
@AutoHowTV hey i got the same BBK intake and i think the my air filter is different from yours. Mine was for my 2000 v6 mustang and for some reason im pretty sure they gave me the wrong one. When i installed it i literally had to ram it inside instead of slip it in like you did. You think im missing out on my cold air intake because of the overly large air filter? and do you think i should replace it with the replacement filter that is the correct size?
XSoulscarz53X 1 year ago
@XSoulscarz53X you arent missing out on your cold air intake with the larger air filter. A larger air filter will give u more horsepower than a smaller filter.

Renev12391 1 year ago
hey nice video 10/10 but i have a question to auto how or anyone that can answer it does installing the cold air intake waste more gas or does it actually give it more fuel officiant thanks
Renev12391 1 year ago
some may reduce the work the engine does to pull in air, in which case you will see more hp OR better gas mileage. How you drive it will determine which one you get! Obviously driving it slower will improve mpg
AutoHowTV 1 year ago
@Renev12391 i noticed maybe a tiny bit of gas mileage increase but it definitly doesnt hurt it. The mpg is really noticeable
XSoulscarz53X 1 year ago
@XSoulscarz53X your entire statement contradicts itself.
