I think people here dont know much about dc public schools. all the middle schools have metal detectors, and they are not very good at all. Obama is allowed to spend his money to make his kids schooling safer and better. Ive been to alot of the public schools and there are a huge number of gangs and violence

Racism has nothing to do with it. What's disgusting is the hypocrisy. The single biggest special interest group the Democrat party is beholden to is the public school teacher's union. Out of obeisance to them, Dems block private school vouchers, charter schools, greater competition and choice (which parents love and would benefit kids) all because it would cut in on the job security of the unions. Yet every rich Dem (Obama, Clinton, Kerry, Kennedy, M. Moore) sends their kids to private school.

But the reality is that most of our kids, who might do great in public schools, don't have the concerns that go along with being presidential children.

When this same micro-uproar occured when Chelsea enrolled at Sidwell, the Clintons said its our daughter, our decision, butt out. That was the end of it. This is similar.

The average rate for private schools in my area is a little less than 12K per school year, and they offer HEFTY scholarships based on need and merit. I'm working poor and my kids go to private school. It's no one else's business how it gets paid for (we get scholarships) and I'm proud that my kids are getting taken better care of than they would be in public school and have a better future because of it.

Status means shit to me, and to most parents in my situation.
