This, like most of the Pod album, is completely unique. Comparisons to other bands at the time are obviously hard to avoid but for fucks sake, listen to the whole album, even just once, and hopefully you'll realise that it stands apart.
This reminds me of "You know you're right" by Nirvana. I'm not saying it sounds like it, but it reminds me of it. Just how the bass is at the beginning, it's the same as how it is in NIrvana. Of course, this song was recorded way before Nirvana recorded theirs.
Kim was cute before she went on a 25 year long diet of nothing but drugs, alcohol and cigarettes. BTW, this really would have made a good Pixies tune. I'm guessing that she probably would have recorded this with the Pixies if the fat-fuck wasn't such an egotistical douche.

really wish they ditched the scrawny goth pom. they are an american band. still are, and guess what! they became brilliantly more themselves, sounding like a bunch of old pros. saw them in THE U.S. acouple of years ago, and wow....sigh. they tore denver a new asshole. try that in brixton academy.
Pom? Goth? WTF? Too many Flying Doctors imports for you, you fucking donut. The new asshole they tore in Denver is you isn't it? Redneck mountain dweller. Jo Wiggs is a legend.
Hillary Clinton is the eldest of three and has two YOUNGER brothers. I think this is the reason why she is so powerful. We need more Hillarys and (Meryl Streeps, who is of the same birth order) don't you think? So if your first child happens to be a girl, and your second child a boy, then have a third child. Hopefully he is a boy.
That was taken from a UK television series called 'snub TV' in 1990, I think they also performed 'When I was a painter' God, did I love Tanya Donnelly, If you read this and you ever fancy a night out in Manchester UK, give us a bell!! Ha Ha
Pod...amazing. The percussion in Doe is so sick. And I love Tanya's backing vocals on Doe and Fortunately Gone. The second Breeders album was allegedly going to be written entirely by Tanya. Regardless, Last Splash and Star remain some of the most highly respected rock albums of the 90s (although I think King is a much better Belly album).
awesome song.... check out the aids benefit cd from the mid nineties, called no alternative... iris is on it. MTV did a show for it, and they performed it live. it also included a great smashing pumpkins performance of the song glynis, as well. if i can find it, i'll post it!
The only similarities between this and "Milk It" is that they're both on the slow side and they have guitars, drums, and vocals. The melodies and rythyms aren't even similar.
@Hooktonnfonics - for the same reason that some people prefer Justin Bieber to Iggy and the Stooges. Individual tastes are just that, and not subject to some universal overarching standard. If asked, you should be able to come up with some concrete reason why you prefer who you do, but there will never be some way to invalidate the taste even in the absence of that.
@babyrapor The slow off kilter 'drum only' intro is whats tricking people into thinking this sounds like Milk it. The intros to both songs are most definitely somewhat reminiscent of each other. Apart from that they are nothing alike other than they are both heavy rocks songs.
This track starts in a way where you KNOW there will be loud guitar scrapes and squeals, a bit like Radiohead's 'Creep'. And OH! How it works. But only half a track?
Not only "Iris" but the entiere album "POD": Glorious, Doe, Happiness is a Warm Gun (super great cover!!!), Oh!, Hellbound, When I Was a Painter, Fortunately Gone, Iris, Opened, Only In 3's, Limehouse, Metal Man : ALL wonderfull !!!
I'm posting "When I was a Painter" right know :-)
I know the drummer from Luscious jackson and josipine from the breeders were living together for a year or so in NY, a friend of mine lived down stares from them and went to a few partys at there apartment said they both are great and the rest of Jackson and Beastie boys were in and out of the place all the time. Man i wish i lived there but year they were a couple at one point.
great tune.
