I have to agree, the rapier is a light weapon, so all you would need is the main gauche (parrying dagger) to defend yourself, the buckler might be a shade too heavy, of course, I saw several parrying capes so what do I know?
Don't know if you got a reply on this yet (don't see it); this is standard Light/Heavy fencing. Cut and Thrust is much noisier and lots more blade swinging involved. Plus the armour is a bit heavier...
A small shield is convenient and inconspicuous to hang from a belt, Count - even more so than a dagger. You're right though, in terms of effectiveness in a fight a parrying dagger would probably be better.
imagine a punch to the face from a buckler (the little shields) also, a dagger would be for a more offensive style whereas a buckler is more defensive
It's not ideal, but in historical terms it may have been necessary to fight someone in a narrow space like a bridge or an alley. That's what they're re-creating, it looks like.
Red shirt black pants is good.

This video is amazing, I love that they're using capes for parrying.

you cant do this on a bridge it defeats the purpose you need the space to walk around your opponent and gain mechanical advantage
