Hi Weiberts ! On Christmas Eve of 1985 or '86, we had three derailments at North Inman. The third one happened about where the white utility vehicle is at the 25 second mark....An NS 157000-series short pig came out of CT-33 without retarder action during humping operations and turned over on the roadway at the #5 electric switch. A slew of recycled aluminum fell out all over the place! " Superintendent Strandquist, you are needed ! ".........(he was not amused!)
Yes, Weiberts, the Road X-ing at Austell around MP 135-H is a good spot. This is where the old line to B'ham and the H-Line (mainline to Chattanooga) wye off from each other. You can see mainline trains, yard shuttles, and Amtrak 19 & 20 every day. There's even a good place to park. Also, there's a public park in Rockmart, Ga. where you can see the usual N-S traffic and pushers at work near Milepost 101-H. Siding seen north of 278 bridge : I set out NS # 4005 on fire back in 1979 or "80.
Oh, another thing -- at 05:33 where the guardrail in the background ends, I survived a head - on when I was on the Hump Engine....Train # 459 missed the RT-10/11 interior switch and hit us. Those tracks no longer exist, but the site I remember very well. Funny thing - when you see something like that about to happen, a certain anatomical part tightens up. You couldn't drive a needle up it with a spike hammer !
Oh the memories ! The small shack just south (right) of the North-end carman shack at 29 seconds was my HQ as your North Inman utility man for circa 10 years. I remember Turtle Smith cooking chili on a winter day and breakfast from time to time out of the carman shack. I've been retired 4 years now. Perhaps some still think of me when they pass that old U-shack.
Too bad all the auto racks obstructed the view so much. I worked at Inman many years and have walked every track there many times. Good video Do it again sometime The metal building at 30 secs is the north carmans shack. Worked out of it many times
Awesome, I want to ride amtrak to atl someday or further, Only rode it to New Orleans and back, Nice shot, want to see that yard as well its big So many engines, and intermodal love it. Too bad this isnt Norris lol dont even want to see norris anymore now

@JgordonAmtrak1 I would be fine with it. Sometimes there are flashing white lights near the ground at Norris. What are they?
