I first heard this in the film "Chasing the Deer" about the Jacobite rebellion in Scotland, and although the song was not written for the movie it completmented it perfectly. As an ex soldier I still resonate with the lyrics of what awaits behind the battle lines.
These battle lines have nothing to do with battle :-)-) It's about returning to yourself when you are fed up with life as it is presented to you and that you accepted as 'your' life.
Ok here John is involved with a melodic pop tune, which is his typical "trademark" within his recent solo albums...but in my opinion He expressed his talent in a better way in the seventies, playing and singing along with famous prog bands like UK (think of "Night After Night" or "Danger Money"), regardless his best songs performed with King Crimson (think of "Red"); anyway inside his recent easy ballads, John (by singing emotionally) has demonstrated to be so sensible (think of "Emma")
@semanray I'm 40, I like them both .... But it's his age, probably - your dad's from the 70s ... It's an emotional attachment, as Greg Lake (with ELP) ruled the 70s. I've not met a man anywhere 8+ years older than me who will acknowledge John Wetton is a better singer! That's just the way it goes ... This is an awesome song.
@worldcitizenforever Come on! I totally support Geddy Lee, but Sting has a better taste for singing and playing. That p bass sound played with thumb simply rocks. Have you listen The Chicago Sessions?
This song is amazing! You should put the rest of it on if you can, or any John Wetton, I love his music but can't seem to find it .... Hope you can post!
Gifted artist, poet... super incredible musician.

The soundtrack of 1746, the last charge (aka Chasing the deer) The film was not very good, but I liked this song from the first notes I heard.

@worldcitizenforever I was talking about Sting's album "The Chicago Sessions".
This is pointless. We are not going to be agree, let us not worry about that. Cheers, mate!

Simply amazing... Wetton, Perry, and Mercury... stand apart from all the pretenders. Each of them put so much of themselves into what they sang.
