tylermeatball's right. Had i buddy I flew with in the Air Force and he hated country with a passion. He loved Hal and still does. But he hedges it by saying he'd not taditional country but a story teller. I just say ok and let it go, I wish Hal would be on more of these country awards shows. No one can tell me he still doesn't have the chops to in there with the current top dogs. MSgt Bill
I lived in North Alabama years ago and would occasionly run up to Nashville for w/ends when I could. One Sat night I was lucky enough (priviledged or honored are better words) to attend the Grand Ol' Opry the night the inducted Hal. It was 1993 (November?) Marty Stuart, Vince Gill, Mark Collie and other legends were there. What a night. My girlfriend and I had seats six rows back, center stage. Incredible. I liked him before that but ever since been a favorite of mine.
Yes, I heard Ketchum do an interview a few years ago talking about his medical problems. It might have been on Mark & Brain, or another male duo show. It was a moving interview - he framed in a "God gave me a wake-up" context. Glad that Mr. Hal is around and singing beautifully.
Gee...found the following unverified information on Wikipedia. Any confimation on it? I hope not.
In 1998, a neurological disorder called Acute Transverse Myelitis left Ketchum without the use of the left side of his body. He had to relearn basic tasks, including how to walk and play the guitar. He has since been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, the same disease that claimed his mothers life.
I fell in love with his music when I first saw and heard him at the Grizzly Rose in Denver....this song is what did it for me. I like the non acoustic version better than this, though.
i have to admit i am a country fan and had never really liked hal but myself and my wife went to see him here at the victoria community center. i was very impressed by his voice and his band.( very impressed.)i am now a hal ketchum fan for life. he performs a mixture of styles very appealing to the ears.
I know a lot of people that don't like "country", but love Hal. His voice is so pure and soulful. My idea of a great concert is Hal and a guitar, just as he is here. Thanks for posting these videos. He's a national treasure. Not to mention, easy on the eyes!
Nanette and I saw Hal and his wonderful band in concert in Portland's Waterfront Park on a moonlit summer night back in the mid-90's. I remember my binoculars being passed around to every female fan in the audience. A memorable evening by one of the best voices to come down the country pike.
They don't make country music like this anymore. I always liked him and his twang and voice. It is sonically soothing and just beyond normal comprehension.
Hal Ketchum is one of my favorite country singers.
He is so underrated! We saw him a few years ago at the Ironhorse in MA. We are going to see him again in Aug. He has a new album coming out in Sept. My husband never liked country, but he loves Hal Ketchum. The man is brilliant!
What an amazing voice...there aren't many singers who sing just as good (or even better in Hal's case) live as on record...i saw Hal for the 1st time in Leeds on the 23/04/08 and i have to admit i'm hooked..country music was never my thing but Hal did it for me, the earth certainly moved, several times!!...he gets better looking with age...can't wait to see him again...Hopefully next time i will pluck up the courage to ask for his autograph and have my pic taken with him...

You are all kidding, right?
Yes, he has a very good singing voice. But he has turned this into a self-indulgent, almost whiney, countrified schlock. It's as though Dan Fogelberg covered it.
BradRawson thanks dude for this video. Where was it shot??This man is the most underated artist I can think of. Such a wonderful talent. This year will be the third year I drink a beer with him on the porch of the Rams Head Tavwern in Annapolis Maryland when he comes back to sing this May 18th. Cheers Brad to you and to everyone who knows this guy is the real deal.. God bless ya Hal

With full band and three-part harmony on the chorus, he does an awesome job on this song. Saw him live several years back.

Man, this is a great interpretation of this song. Ketchum's voice is so genuine!
The only nit that I have to pick is that the guitar is slightly out of tune- but I can sure forgive it with that voice!
