  • dave cash anyone?

  • Um, this video shoulda been titled, Best Phillies that a guy born in 1965 likes.

  • Lefty O'Doul in left. Ryan Howard at first. And Alexander would be your Ace, not the number 5 spot

  • @ronin241703, Ryan Howard, aka Dr. K at first over Pete Rose? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • @EastCoastDude99 Compare the numbers while playing in Philadelphia, it's Ryan Howard all day.

  • @ronin241703, numbers arn't everything. If that was the case Adam Dunn should be making 20 million dollars a year. Howard gets his numbers in bunches then comes up short in the most important part of the season. He broke a WS record for striking out against the yanks, 13 times, and it was only a 6 game series. He tied an NLCS records for strikeouts against the Giants last year (12) And after game one against the cardinals, he tanked as usual. Schmidt and Carlton dont get a ring without Rose.

  • @EastCoastDude99 I respect your opinion but I have to side with Howard. He can have a bigger impact on a game. Rose will get on base and maybe knock in a run, maybe even score if someone behind him get a extra base hit. Howard is as likely to be responsible for more runs in a single game then Rose is for an series. Opposing teams plan around Howard, not Rose.

FYI Pete Rose was the only person I have ever paid to get their autograph.

  • @ronin241703, I havn't noticed any teams planning around Howard lately. In fact, Larussa was doing just the opposite and pitching around Pence in the 3 hole just to get to Howard in the playoffs and it payed off. Not saying Howard stinks but for 20 million a year, as much as Halladay makes, he's tanked badly in the playoffs the last 3 years.

  • Hello? Ed Delhanty left field? Or are we talking modern players?

  • gotta go with pete rose for 1b.

  • Good video it's refreshing not having to sit through an overused crap hip hop song. Mike Schmidt was the greatest third baseman of all time, not just for the Phills.

  • RIP Robin Roberts

    Richie Ashburn

    Grover Cleveland Alexander

  • wow that is a sad all time team. hahahahahahah poop

  • Sorry, Del Ennis should be the left feilder, he had 257 HRs as a Phillie compared to the Bull and Luzinski had 811 RBIs on the team compared to Ennis's 1116...buzz the vote goes to Del Ennis in LF.

  • ryan howard should be the first base

  • Comment removed

  • Jimmy Rollins is better then Bowa, Ryan Howard should be at rirst. Pete Rose was an Honor to watch but he was a Reds playing for the Phillies. Chase is better then Many Trillo "all around" and before it's all over Roy Halladay should make the list.

    I.M.H.O

  • Shame about a guy I just read about -- Del Ennis. He played left field while Ashburn was in center. For 8 consecutive seasons he had stats comparable to Stan Musial. Great fielder, too. He was always booed but noone really knows why?

  • P - Doc Halladay

  • Can't bitch too much about these picks.

  • As a fan who basks in Yankee glory, I'd pick everyone from the '64 team!! Just a reminder of how you should focus on losers when you construct your all time team!!

  • Hard to disagree with the starting 8, though Bob Boone is no Yogi Berra, Johnny Bench or Roy Campanella. The others can hold their own. LF Bull could be argued one way or another. There are guys with 1-2 seasons (Dykstra, Denny, Cy Williams) but if you put a 5 year minimum of years as a Phil, this is pretty solid. More recent fans will put Howard in there of course. Allen was fierce and played in a touch era more favorable to pitchers.

  • Johnny Callison should be the Right Fielder, Jim Bunning should be 1 or 2 on the pitching rotation, he is among the best pitchers in history, among the strike out leaders in history, and one of the few pitchers to ever throw a perfect game.

Johnny Callison is among the best right fielders in history, winning the award for most assists in a season four times, with a rifle for an arm, and a power hitter.

  • @WilliamHW No offense meant, but if you look at Bunning's stats he does not rank even close to the best philly pitcher, let alone the best in history. Alexander & Carlton are far better pitchers than Bunning. Contemporaries Koufax, Marichal, Gibson and Jenkins were far greater pitchers, winning well over 20 games multiple times while Bunning only did it once.

There are 18 pitchers who have thrown perfect games, most are not in the HOF and that is no credential for all-time greatness.

  • garystraits--Rose bet on games he was managing. That is cheating. Betting is baseball's capital offense. Every year in spring training MLB sends out their legal eagle goons to warn the players that it will not be tolerated and that there is no second chance.

Pete Rose heard that warning every year for 25 years and did it anyway. No one is above the integrity of the game. He will die a disgraced man, although with plenty of cash for signing autographs without looking up at card shows.

  • Allen was great, but I would definately take either Ryan Howard or Pete Rose at first. There is a reason that the Phillies have world series rings with those 2 and between Howard and Rose the Phils went to a total of 4 ws, as opposed to 0 with Allen. Rose and Howard also have more seasonal MVPs. As for the outfield, I would have a more generalized outfield, because I'd rather see Dykstra or Abreu than Luzinski.

  • 7th game World Series...Phils need a hit to win it.....I'll take Pete Rose's fire and grit over Ryan Howard's gaudy earring 8 days a week. And for all you pompous yahoos out there, placing a bet is not worse than beating your wife, outright cheating, weapons violations, attempted murder, etc.

  • As a Phillies fan, i hope your premature selection of Hamels proves correct. Dick Allen played 14-games in left field. Luzinski was horrible as a defensive left-fielder. Therefor, my all time team has Dick Allen in left field with Ryan Howard at first base.

  • Ummmmmmm Many Trillo Second base, Larry Bowa Short Stop, Pete Rose First Base.

  • how many MVP's does larry bowa have?

and manny trillo over chase utley? really dude? pete rose was a red, and temporarily a phillie.

  • Uh...no. Rose ranks behind Ryan Howard as well as Allen, Utley will be in the Hall of Fame. I'd also go with Rollins over Bowa although he doesn't get on base enough.

I'd glad the video picks Ashburn--people don't realize how great he was.

  • the phillies alltime team is the team that they have right now. they are so boss

  • of course allen over rose... rose was a Red.. we had to get him... allen was a Phillie

  • this is so last year

  • But Trillo played second base.

  • I would have taken Manny Trillo over Rollins.

  • id throw cliff lee in there

  • I agree, Ed Delehanty needs in somewhere. Glad you included Chuck Klein, that was definetly a great pick.

  • Dick Allen over Pete Rose...Really?

  • Yeah, really.

Richie Allen had an OPS+ of 153 with the Phillies. Rose had an OPS+ of 101 (one point above average). That's why he's there over Rose. Not to mention the difference in other stats:

    Allen: .290/.371/.530/.902, 153 OPS+

    Rose: .291/.365/.361/.726, 101 OPS+

That is an enormous difference, and that's why Allen is a WAY better choice over Rose.

  • and where the hell is brad lidge?????

  • lidge? wayy to inconststint

  • wat about rose or howard ...cmooon ..........

  • howard is better than allen ..cmoon

  • I agree. Dick Allen Had The Magic Touch.

  • dick allen should be in the hall of fame..

    ryan howard is a roider..

  • Jack Clements is no doubt the Catcher. I also didn't see Ed Delahanty, Sam Thompson or Billy Hamilton. All 3 of them are more deserving than Luzinski and even Ashburn (yeah, yeah, yeah, he's the popular favorite, but he wasn't Delahanty, Thompson, or Hamilton). If Rollins and Utley are capapble of making the team (I don't argue that at all) than Ryan Howard is no doubt the 1B, not Allen.

  • Howard can't compare with Allen as a baserunner. Allen was also a better hitter for average. Dick is the best choice for 1st base

  • Using that line of logic, you may as pick John Kruk or Greg Jefferies. Dick Allen is a career .263 hitter at 1B, Howard is . 278. I'm not sure where the 'better hitter for average' comment comes from

  • A little too soon to go with Hamels, but the other recent ones, Rollins and Utley, are already good picks. The tricky part is first base: Allen over Ryan Howard? Allen was a born DH before there was a DH: Like Harmon Killebrew he was an awful third baseman moved to first where he could do less damage. Both hit the ball often and far, but Howard has already outhomered Allen. That's not a knock on Allen, who really got a raw deal in his time, but I think Howard is a better all-around player.

  • good list but pete rose would be better at first

  • Yeah I'd definitely go with Rose at first. Great calls on Luzinski, Ashburn and Schmidt though.

  • Dutch and Schilling

  • please, schilling? CARLTON

  • I didnt say kick Carlton off the rotation. But for now, I'd take Schill before Hamels. As for Dutch, OK, hes more of a sentimental favorite. If someone thinks Boone should be the catcher, I really cant argue too much, except to say that comparing best seasons, a good case can be made for Daulton. Boone stayed healthier [Daulton had all those knee surgeries] and played more. If Dutch had sound knees and played more full seasons, then I'd take him over Boonie hands down.

  • I would choose Larry Bowa for several reason. One of which is a memory that still gives me a good feeling. Do ya recall in 1977 when Larry hit a grand slam homer just over the left field fence? The look on Pete Rose when Bowa rounded 3rd was priceless. He belongs in the Hall without doubt. HR's are not the only part of the game.

  • Oh and definitely Lary Bowa at SS.

  • I agree with your line-up, but I'd go with Rose at 1st, Daren Daulton at C, and maybe Curt Schilling over Hamels, but in a few years, Hamels will be worthy of that spot.

  • Am I not seeing a catcher category? I may favor the 1970's Phils somewhat, but Bob Boone belongs that All Time list as well as a Hall of Fame member. Baseball is so very multifaceted and his lifetime average was low, but one needs to consider the physical stress a catcher goes thru. In his case, over 20 years!

  • You need a manager - either Dallas or Charlie. Definitely, Rose or Howard at First.

  • Dick Allen?? Dick Allen???

Are you nuts?? Lets see Rose, Howard, even Thome would do.. but Dick Allen??? I just felt my head explode!!! BAM!!! Dick Allen???

  • I agree. Lidge and Al Holland added to the bullpen, and Pete Rose over Dick Allen at First. Phillies don't win in 1980 without Pete Rose. And I would even debate Dutch Daulton over Bob Boone...

  • add lidge n the wild thing too that bull pen

  • What no Ron Diorio or Mike Rogodzinski?

  • Ed Delahanty and Pete Rose would be on my list. Otherwise I agree with the selections

  • you better update that and put Brad LIdge in there

  • mmmmmmmmm...........Pete Rose(1b)

  • def chase utley... rollins i dont know...

  • I'd take Bo Diaz over Bob Boone, better arm, more bat. Not sure about the pen either, Chris Short was a starter, Rick Wise also a starter in his best years. Where is Steve Bedrosian, Mitch Wiliams, Brad Lidge now... Ron Reed? I don't think so. Gene Garber over Reed probably. Your starters are solid. Can we have a DH? Ryan Howard? You got Cole Hamelson there already -- maybe, Carlton, Alexander, Roberts Bunning then it gets debateable... nice

  • Every year they have games like those two against the cubs. Remember the Braves game last year in september when the braves beat em in the ninth? I thought they were done after that but then look what happened!

  • That was with the 07 Phils, I don't think the 08 Phils have that comeback fuel in em

  • @SaPrepPride

    I think maybe they do!

  • @SaPrepPride

    I think maybe they do!

  • Nice compilation! I wouldn't include Cole Hamels until he wants to pitch every inning unlike when he took himself out of the game they lost against the cubs. Replace Hamels with Curt Schilling. 1993 Playoffs cemented his legacy with the Fightin Phils! I'd take Darren Daulton over Boone as well!

  • Aghhh don't remind me of that Cubs game, or the one after it.

  • cole hamels?....over John Denny? Curt Schilling? Ron Reed over Al Holland or Steve Bedrosian?.....at this point i think i MIGHT still take Larry Bowa..just because of his never ending passion when he played...

  • I'd have to go with the MVP for shortstop.

  • that's because he's all you've ever seen at short with them. He's a very very close second right now...by the end of his career it'll probably change my mind...but i'm still taking Bowa..right now

  • I know how good Larry Bowa was, and he would defitely be my backup shortstop. But Rollins is a 5 tool player, and those are my favorite type of players.

  • Still have to say that my favorite Phillie was Johnny Callison. Yes,there might have been a few better hitters that played right field for the Phillies, but no one better defensively and what an arm! He also made it cool to wear glasses when playing baseball. Not to mention he was a real gentleman.

  • How come Pete Rose isn't in the Phillies Wall of Fame? And Dick Allen is?

  • Because he's banned from the MLB and the Phillies wall of fame is in an MLB park

  • The "King of Swat" became one of fifteen players to ever hit four homers in a single game and is the only one of the fifteen to also have a game in which he hit four doubles.Big Ed also ranks first all time in doubles per 162 games with 46.1. Big Ed was voted into the HOF in 1945.

  • How in the hell did you leave out Ed Delahanty???

In 16 seasons, he led the league in stolen bases once, RBIs three times, homeruns twice and batting average twice. He's the only player in history to win the batting title in both major leagues, and had a career batting average of .346, which ranks 4th all-time. Over the course of his career he posted a 3.04 bb:k ratio.

  • nice vid

  • Thank you.

  • Easy, By liking Dick Allen more.

  • Not a bad list. I would have taken Larry Bowa at short but I thing Rollins is a punk. I would also have taken Curt Schilling instead of Cole Hamels. Hamels gives up too many homers in a watered down league versus Schilling who had better control of his pitches. Also in relief, Ron Reed was good but Steve Bedrosian was better.

  • Okay I'll go with you on that but in starting rotaion you have listed he would have to be the number 5 starter! lol Where does Adam Eaton fit in? hahahaha

  • lmfao

  • Let me guess, it was the Adam Eaton that made you lyfao! hahaaa Why is he still here? They sent Myers down but they keep letting Eaton take the mound every 5th game. I'm confused.

  • Good job, I like the team but I'm not so sure Cole Hamels has done enough (yet) to be on the All-Time team.

  • You missed catcher and pitcher. Also thank you for not putting Rose in there. Can't stand the guy.

  • Great to see someone recalling the dependable Ron Reed. Interesting to see Dick Allen there at first instead of Rose. I am startled that Randy Lerch didnt make your pitching staff! haha. Just kidding.

  • It's hard to put Pete Rose in there after his gambling scandal.

    But thanks for the comment!

  • I dont hold that against him anymore. What is far worse is the owners giving a blind eye to steroid use after the disaterous 1994-95 strike to pick up baseball again. And when they no longer needed it, they abandonded their players.
