Because the Gridiron is popular and successful. It is by far without question the most popular sport in America which by virtue would rank it somewhere near the top 3 or 4 worldwide

@ManlnCognito American football does not promote obesity. There are some overweight members on each team. They usually play defensive positions (blocking the other team from "sacking" the quarterback) and do it quite well since they are hefty and hard to maneuver around. If you understood even a small percentage of american football, you wouldn't be criticizing some of them being overweight. Think about the game of chess; each piece has a specific duty and carry out that duty strategically.

Similar to devising offensive and defensive plans in war; huddles and playbooks are necessary considering all team members need to play their part. Rugby, even though USA football descended from it, still retains the running back/forth, pass to open guy, score as soccer. Thus the evolution of the football sports: Soccer->Rugby->Canadian/American football.
That's my point, the whole game is centered around players following instructions...otherwise i assume they wouldn't know where to run, who to block etc..
Rugby & especially Football have very few passing restrictions & is continuous i.e, they dont reset their formation on every dead ball...so while it may look like running back & forth to you, it's just the sports are being played in their natrual, unconvoluted form, which IMO is a lot more fun than following instructions...

The quarterback is like the general of the team, deciding the plan, while the rest cooperate on whatever decision he makes. It is an ideal form of cooperative and strategic gaming. Not to discredit soccer in any means, but it is just like basketball and hockey in that it is decide who to pass to at the oppertune time while in action. Football is more about preplanning.

They usually play defensive positions (blocking the other team from "sacking" the quarterback) and do it quite well since they are hefty and hard to maneuver around. If you understood even a small percentage of american football, you wouldn't be criticizing some of them being overweight. Think about the game of chess; each piece has a specific duty and carry out that duty strategically.

Similar to devising offensive and defensive plans in war; huddles and playbooks are necessary considering all team members need to play their part. Thus the evolution of the football sports: Soccer->Rugby->Canadian/American football.

Rugby & especially Football have very few passing restrictions & is continuous i.e, they dont reset their formation on every dead ball...so while it may look like running back & forth to you, it's just the sports are being played in their natrual, unconvoluted form, which IMO is a lot more fun than following instructions...

The quarterback is like the general of the team, deciding the plan, while the rest cooperate on whatever decision he makes. It is an ideal form of cooperative and strategic gaming. Not to discredit soccer in any means, but it is just like basketball and hockey in that it is decide who to pass to at the oppertune time while in action. Football is more about preplanning.
