The 1st amendment of the Constitution of the USA reads: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Now, where do you read in there that the gov can override literally all/every religion to dictate what their own institutions are?
@Thinqingman , nope, no name calling and no lying. The Establishment Clause of the First Amendment prohibits the establishment of a national religion by the Congress or the preference of one religion over another, non-religion over religion, or religion over non-religion.
@MrBobbarnes You call me ignorant, then deny it. That's lying.
And your take on the 1st amendment doesn't wash. Nor has it any bearing on the historical fact that marriage began as an institution of religion. It's only in our modern world of overreaching government that marriage has been co-opted by the state. Which is fine as long as they keep it separate even in name. But they want to force religion to accept both their redefinition of, as well as their hijacking of marriage.
@MrBobbarnes Depends on one's perspective. I say you have to disprove God's existence. Which you can't. And neither has anyone else. Although, had you the capacity for comprehension, I could lay out a number of things that might give even you pause. Though I doubt you'd ever have the honesty to admit it.
But, please, do spend some more time in a dictionary if you're going to continue your tirades. Marriage isn't the only word you're trying to redefine... Radical? What are you? Twelve?
@Thinqingman, sorry, the proof of burden is on you. I only have to provide proof to counter yours... and I can wait. So which definition of Marriage are you squawking about? A man and his 600 wives and 400 concubines? Or that special relationship between a virgin and her rapist? The bible has so many to offer.
@Thinqingman , your theocratical, re-visioning of American history is fascinating, well for the first 10 seconds. There is no shame for you to admit you are wrong, by why wait till you look like an utter fool to do so?
@MrBobbarnes Well, you are a dandy piece of work, aren't you? If you're going to try to play troll-bait, 1) you have to have a hook, 2) you have to be able to tell the difference between a troll and a human.
@Thinqingman, lets' go over that lie thing. Bishop Jackson filed paperwork in DC as a DC resident. He gave a DC address that was an one bedroom condo, already occupied by another man. ——Yep, Jackson lied. Kind of pathetic when a religious figure does so. But religious people are quite known for lying.
@MrBobbarnes You accuse him of lying, too? Well, he'll have to defend himself on that point. I don't even know the man, but if you're going to pick at nits like where he files paperwork, then there's clearly little hope of reasoning with you. You're not only gay, but a bureaucrat, too.
@Thinqingman , And then, when his address was found out to be a lie, Jackson told the Washington Times that the "activists" HACKED into his records. ——Yet another lie. His paperwork was public by its very nature. Again, lying is the sport of the religionists!
How pompous and pretentious. In my culture, marriage has nothing to do with God or religion. The only strength this argument has is in the pitiful half-truths it portrays.
News flash about the low marraige rate amongst blacks: marriage rates tend to be low amongst groups of the population who have a generally low socioeconomic status, that's true everywhere in the world. It's got nothing to do with marriage itself, it's to do with bigger problems like health, employment and education
first off, it is on the law books that civil marriage is about promoting procreation and child rearing
second, i encourage you to type in "Alan Keye's argument" and watch the video where Alan answers and refutes these type of arguments about infertile couples, then come back so i can finish you off
ROFLMAO Dude you have been "finished off" in every thread you posted your ( literally ) same BS. And you ran like the coward you are.
Tell me, did you happen to read the comments here referencing poverty and it's results for society? Bet not because you care about as much about or children as you do about equal civil rights....NOTHING, NADA!
What you care about is in fact your religious marriage "validity". You are not merely a bigot, you are a deliberate liar too.
@evilchibi4reel Pompous?! Pretentious?! Lose your dictionary, did you? If you're going to resort to name-calling, you should at least put some effort into a smattering of logic. News flash about marriage: It predates every nation, even every society on earth. It has been an institution of religion since the beginning of time. You can't rewrite history to suite your own perverted predilections. Trying has only ever lead to the ultimate demise of every civilization to make that foolish turn.
News Flash: Gay Marriage is the only political issue black religious conservatives have addressed in the last ten years!
Meanwhile, in the African-American community only 31% of all blacks get married, and 70% of all children are born to single unwed-mothers.
Black religious conservatives should be ashamed of themselves, and need to be called out. They need to worry about the pitiful marriage rate -- the state of the family -- in their own damned community. Pride goes before a fall!
@Rangerpjonwebx Wait... What? Because people aren't listening to religious leaders about 'straight' marriage, those leaders are villains for condemning gay marriage? I don't get it.
Bishop Hideaway Jackson, a big ole "how you doin"...... Black people are often times hysterical in their views about things. they love to ignore that there are gays and lesbians FRONTING like they are straight. ................... This guy thinks we are somehow all Christians. The nerve.
@MimosaGirl1 Funny. I don't get that. I see a man who's had enough and is finally taking a stand, and encouraging others to, as well. How exactly does that make him a hypocrite? I don't get it.
I am so disgusted with the use of religion to ban civil rights to any individual. Do you all realize just how many people you are turning away from God? The message of hate and discrimination is sending those people whom know the true message of unconditional love, the message of Jesus whom was not bias or prejudice towards any soul, packing! Me included! It has divided neighbors, divided families, and divided this country!
@Meeshinated You don't know the first thing about Jesus or His teachings. Open the book and read it. You'll find a man who had His own apostles afraid of asking Him what He meant. You'll find a man who deliberately assembled a weapon and publicly beat people with it, and then destroyed their property. You'll find a man who openly told people NOT to expect peace, but rather discord because of His teachings. And love? Read just how He's going to 'love' us when He returns. It won't be pretty.

Marriage has always been an institution of the church. The state has no constitutional right to meddle. Read the Constitution!
