When they talk about Using the Beasty Boys in the new Star Trek movie made that scene work.. However using different songs for movies gives me a headach.
It seem to me like some of the bigger bands have gotten almost snobbish with their music and after they have already made so much money from it would want it to stay around and let film makers use it with out taking a big chunk of their budget.
HA, this guy really has good points. Hey nothing is wrong with indie but it would be great to have mainstream artists music in movies with no budget problems. You have to remember though that some good songs will get old by the time the movie shows
I think its stupid how much it costs to have one song from one famous artist/band in a movie. Half a million dollars? That's freaking RIDICULOUS. I have lost faith in musicians nowadays. It is no longer about the music but about the money.
Good choice for the movie Beastie Boys Sabatoge Rocks. The Doors are awsome.Must of been a hard choice. Before I watched this video I had no idea there were cover up bands in some movies.
I agree with sleepycrash, about using big names in music first before lesser known names. I hate that mainstream music will come first, just because its safe.
After listening to all their sessions, I got the idea they prefer unsigned and unknown bands because it is way cheaper. But unsigned bands/composers/musicians don't always have all their ducks in a row. They don't always secure full rights to their music or have it recorded in the best possible way. Or they do covers they don't have the rights to.
Yeah, after going back and watching these videos again, I agree that they do side with choosing unsigned bands. But it's still all goes back to money; it's cheaper for thier production; not because they want to give indie bands a chance to be heard.
It is also sad that a song may be more fitting and compliment a scene better, but not go over as well, because THE PUBLIC wants to hear U2 rather than a lesser or unknown artist.
That really makes me sad that it costs so much to get classic music that everyone knows into films. Everybody loves to sing along to their favorite music.
I agree with MAL0p3z. It would have been nice to have seen the video. But overall, a very well done video.

I can see how studios use bigger musicians to sell there movies and how musicians want to make sure they are getting compensated for it.

If the movie is good enough, the singer should pay the director instead!

You are correct. The famous songs and bands are the first choice but indie bands are cheaper so that's why they get a shot.
