  • who the hell disliked this video? jeez its not that bad....

  • He's acting like it's just German/French. There was a massive Norse influence on the language that he's not mentioning.

  • @NewYorkFlavour as I've told someone else who has commented on the same thing, he did mention the Jutes who came from modern day Denmark. this is a watered down lecture, and he only briefly mentioned that influence. I agree that he should have emphasized the Norse influence, because it's one of the reasons why English phonetics changed so much, and why are letters and sounds hardly match up.

  • English feel´s close for me. but i think that english is more closer to french than to german.

  • you are a funny guy lmao!!! i got an exam tommorow and i swear everything i have learnt is made a million times easier with you!! haha thanks

  • @Ehtishaam786 totally agree

  • they didn't speak french to impress one another. that language was spoken by the court for the obvious reason - they were french! it's just that there's been a mixture of the two languages and the middle english has been developed. and it sounded more french than english.

  • He's leaving out Spanish and African influences on English.

  • It's up to a million words now. This video was from the 90's.

  • Appantly we actually have 900, 000 words! ( The larger sum must be true cos I have read Greek has 700,000)

  • He doesn't know exactly how Chaucer spoke.

  • ENGLISH IS A GERMANIC LANGUAGE

  • Yes, and who's denying it ?
