  • Two of the best synths out there. I just bought the MS 2000, not sure if I need both though, any recomendations?

  • Ha, I have the same Jarre La Defense Poster :)

  • can anyone please tell me if the arpeggio/sequencer midi synching problem has been solved at the ms 2000 b? A friend of mine gave me an ms 2000 r to test it before buing it, but when i synch it with external midi the arpeggio and sequencer start to delay in a few meters! Can anyone please help me. thanks

  • Nice. Keep recording it mate

  • you should smoke a joint while playing.

  • i love arpeggiators. thank you jp8000 for helping invent trance.

  • SMOKING :

This video is over 2 years old. I have not smoked in the house for 2 years. The music equipment has always been cleaned every couple of weeks and has always remained in perfect condition. I also do not intend to sell on any of my gear.

What I choose to do in my music room with equipment that I've purchased with my money is entirely up to me. I know smoking is a taboo subject, but please, less of the negative comments.

  • @oxygene65 too right, let the man have a fucking fag whilst he's playing synth, i'm sure I would do the same if my girlfriend wouldn't kick my ass about it, nice chords by the way

  • So does he put "From a smoking studio" in his for sale listings?

  • That is way too cool. Not the synth playing, but the fact that you are smoking while playing. I mean, that cigarette makes you look soooooo cool. I envy you.

  • the video is gorgeous, but cigarettes

  • the presentation is good, but what added to the cigarettes? :)

  • lol, my dream setup

  • can anybody tell me how much these two cost (new), i found some of these pieces on e-bay on really low prices but i don't know about their credibility

  • awsome system!

  • Nice!!!

  • i guess his nick is a play for his hobby and that is smoking and smoking is his oxygen but the again, it's his life so we're not allowed to comment about it

  • I'm guessing his nick is a play on his name.

He's probably named Gene, Eugene, or some such thing.

  • its his life

  • very nice :)

and Jarre poster.... - enjoyed the video !

  • I am sorry for an impolite comment.

You will do a wonderful performance in the future and be wishing the

    happiness of your music life.

  • Do not perform while smoking.

    It is foolish.

  • well thanks for your lengthy advice there !

Firstly, its my health, its my music room, and my music equipment. So I can do anything I want with it and dont appreciate comments about it being foolish.

    Secondly, I dont smoke anymore.

  • All that with a cigarette in your mouth. Nice job.

  • Two of the synths that are high on my wannahave-list together in one clip. Great! I want them even more now.

  • Man, you are to strict to yourself! This is a fine presentation!

  • awesome, i love the minimal echo arp vs pads style.. reminds me of some early tangerine dream

  • sounds like VNV Nation.

  • Kindly can you describe the chord progression you're using here? It's quite nice.

  • sorry, but I cant. I was improvising. Its the usual predictable obvious changes tho. Nothing special. From what I remember that was floating around the Cm scale but changing into a Cmajor in a classic TD sort of change. I dunno. I was drunk at the time.

  • nice :)

  • I'm thinking about getting one of these when I move out. Would you recommed it?

  • I would recommend the JP8000 or the MS2000. BUT, the MS2000's polyphony isnt very good, and therefore makes the machine not very flexible. Its great in an environment where you have lots of other equipment. But its certainly not a workhorse, and could never be that single bit of kit, if you see what I mean.

  • But if you want JP8000, then yes its a great bit of kit. The Kork MS2000 is more advanced, and you'd get a much wider range of sounds from that. But the JP8000 has more polyphony, and sounds much warmer, AND has much more instant satisfaction. The JP8000 is definately much more geared towards live performance. And I also reckon it sounds warmer than the MS2000.

  • Neither make a good work horse though m8. The JP is only bi timbrel. A good work horse would be a supernova. 8 pt multi with 7 effects on each voice all independent of each other and if that isnt enough, 8 separate outputs.

Great tune by the way fella. Personally don't like the ciggy though. So 1980's haha

  • yeah I agree totally, they arent workhorses. I always wanted to try a supernova, and never got round to it. I wonder how much they are going for second hand. I remember when they came out they got brilliant reviews.

I'd also like to try an Alesis Andromeda, thats 24 note polyphonic true analog.

As for work horses, I got a JV1080 fully expanded, a XV5080, a Yammy TG500 and an Akai S6000 in that department !

yeah, the fag looks shit. Thankfully I've given up smoking since then !

  • Ok first and foremost well done for packing in the tabs m8. Seriously!! Great effort, just don't slip back.

Second hand super nova 2 is £350 tops for a rack mount. Keyboard version rare as rocking horse wee wee. Only get the supernova "2" as the original supernova (1 if you like) was re packaged into the notation Nova and commands a much lower price. Hope this all helps m8.

  • Personally in my opinion the JP8000 is one of the most expressive instruments I have ever played but its seriously let down by just being bi timbral. Even the JD800 was 6 part.

All in all the JP is a cracking synth though, one of my all time favs.

Supernova 2 is just as awesome though. 7 separate effects per multitimbral part - I mean come on, its 8 or 9 year old and still nowt touches it on this score. Also the 8 outputs, 8 part multi timbrel and an independent arpeggiator for each part.

  • cheers geezer for the giving up smoking thing. It was very very hard, because I love smoking LOL. Gave up two weeks before my first kid was born.

I gotto look into a supernova 2. its maybe just about affordable for me now. Mind you, any new synth purchase will mean having to upsize my mixing desk from a 24 to 32 channel, which is more expense.

  • congrats on the baby m8. Got a 1 year old my self.

Supernova 2 rack around £250 on Ebay. 8 pt multi with 8 outs so yup, you'll need a bigger desk. (think yourself lucky, im struggling on with 16 channel Mackie) Even cheaper than the sunpernova and exactly the same in sound is the Novation Nova. Biggest diff being the price £150 max second hand and the fact its 6 pt mulit with 6 outs.

I rate Nova/supernova 2 as one of the best synths ever made m8.

  • jEEZ - just reading all of my posts back in one go

I sound like Novation rep lol.

How many times did I mention how many outs the novation had :/

    About a million (blush)

  • ha ha ha, we all do it when we got a bit of kit we really like !

  • thanks mate. isnt parenthood surreal !? cant believe that the supernova 2 is only 250 quid on ebay, thats insane. As you say, they are a top notch virtual analogue synth. I remember when they came out they got some of the best reviews. Whats the polyphony on the supernova 2 it must be quite high to deal with the 8pt multitimbral function.

  • sorry m8, its the supernova 1 that is £250. THe Supernova 2 is £350 approx of course.

Main diff is Supernova 2 has FM waveforms and vocoda.

Supernova comes in 20 voice as standard pr a pro model of 44.

Supernova 2 come in standard 24 - pro comes in 36 and pro x comes in 48.

For a good insight into the supernova get a nova for just £150 ish on ebay. Best £150 ever spent IMO Exact same sound making as its big bro just 6 pt multi and "only" 6 out's

Let me know what u think if you get 1

  • even for 350, its still a good price. I will have to look into this. I have been meaning on expanding my virtual analogue set up. Was originally looking for an Oberhiem OB12, but they are really difficult to find.

  • enjoy'd that, got any more?

  • Can i get an mp3 of your song?

or some how i need the better sound qualitym that one was distorted.

    But good work

  • sorry, this is the only copy, just made it up as I went along whilst filming. I wish my camera had a stereo audio in, so I could get better quality audio when filming.

  • maybe whenever you record the video, you could send the audio from your gear to your soundcard and whatever [program] you use to record the video you could set the gear to record as the audio instead of your camera's audio

  • yeah, I mean I could record the audio into cubase. Then remove the audio from the video and replace with the audio recorded on cubase. I should try that. I reckon there may be some slight sync problems, but I reckon that could work.

  • PADDDDDS!!!!!!!! AWESOME

  • dont ash on those

  • this is sick. i love the pads

  • These are two synths that I have considered buying. Which one shall I go for? I think the JP-8000 is the best for me at the moment because I'm sick of presets and virtual synths. I want hands-on!

  • Personally, I'd go for the JP8000, more polyphony, more keys, more instant gratification. Although the Korg MS2000 is just as powerful and due to its synth engine can come up with a wider array of sounds. However, I'd still recommend the JP8000. Perhaps its worth getting into a music shop and seeing if you can get a play on both of them.

  • looks like im going to show you guys how to really play an ms2000

  • we're waiting for you to illuminate us !

  • jarre oder klaus ??

  • cool, i like. jp seems in good nic, i need mine serviced!

  • serviced ?! already !? Mind you, mines been static in the same place for years. Never gigged. Perhaps the 1cm thick layer of nicotene has protected it for all these years !!

  • i got mine in 98 or so.. damn filter and amp envelopes are nackered. all need new contacts. have to use scope function to edit them because when i move the sliders they respond like they are on 100 when they are on around 25 :-/

  • bah, thats pants. I've always had problems with the pitch bend stick on mine, it never centers itself properly, so the JP ends up sending out tonnes of pitch bend midi signals back to Cubase. Its a gorgeous synth, but the build quality isnt all that. Compared to Yamaha Synths that always seem more solid.

  • I think the two work well together, many of my songs make use of their distinct sounds.

  • Hey there no smoking allowed in here...

    ;-)

    Nice job, really.

  • Thanks. Actually I was looking for a good demo of the posibilities of the Roland jp8000.

  • i love both those synths....well done!
