Apple is confusing. You need to do a ton of crap to change...say the font on a device. Android is not. I have the HTC Evo 4G and I can honestly say it is the most amazing phone I have ever owned and possibly the best Smartphone I have ever seen. To get an app on the app store on iOS, it needs to be aproved by apple. To get an app on the market, just upload it their. Freedom is why people jailbreak. Apple is recognizing this too.

I'm not an Apple or iPhone fan, but google is stupid to actually think they can out market Apple. The best scenario is that they can take some market share away from Windows Mobile. Open source is meaningless to consumers, unless it translates to cheaper and better. Unless they give the phones away for free, the only benefit of open source is to the phone makers.

I love Google, but after spending 19 days with their new Nexus One, I wasn't very impressed and returned it. Why, you might ask? Compared to the iPhone, the Android market was lacking the variety and quality of apps, especially medical apps. T-mobiles 3G coverage is crap. The battery seemed to die quicker than my iPhone would.

The Android OS is far better than the iPhone though. If they could somehow boast the Android market, then I would say it would do well and I would switch.

Now yes open projects are way better. Take linux for example. I'm running ubuntu and the only things that don't work are flash which is closed source and direct x which is also closed source. However, windows still hasn't been beaten by linux. But at the rate the android os is growing I think it will defeat the iphone and blackberry especially if the android market grows exponentially as soon as the phone market share grows. But then I thought that about linux, and most people still run Windows.

Well, about the windows deal is this. Most people on computers are "shallow" in computers, meaning they simply check myspace,facebook, youtube etc. If you do a percentage of computer savy, linux or mac (hackintosh) over run windows horribly.

I agree, but until the Android market is strengthened then I don't see Android, even with a remarkable OS, beating the iPhone. Trust me, Apple has had over a year of silence with the iPhone OS updates (minus the small one very recently). What does that mean? It's a sniper attack, i'm sure. We'll see this summer.

I think if you understood open source better, you'd realize that this won't matter in the long run.

Apple will probably have a strong market for a long time to come, but ultimately, open projects that operated by standards and allow other people/companies to build products on top of theirs (for FREE) are going to win out.

I love apple's products. They work beautifully. But I'm all over open source poducts like Android, and think their potential far exceeds what one company can produce.

Also, the reason Google's bots read your email is for their embedded contextual AdSense ads. Competitors (Yahoo, MS) do that, too.

And my problem with Google is that their serviceware is too proprietary to the touch. But alternatives are no better (they, like anything put out by Yahoo or MS, tend to suck worse in function and compatibility with rival services such as Google's serviceware).

I'm not wild about Android, though. It seems like it will only cater to the backward smartphone makers.
