  • it is beautiful when horses do it without preassure..

  • well you will never admit the torture because pain is beautiful.. yea and now Nevzorov is a bad man here.. i don't care what you say this is torture.

  • I would like to see it in normal speed. The "slow motion" does show the horse's rhythm and softness but I like to see both. He is a very talented trainer and rider.

  • Torture this...Torture that you all make me sick. :) Having said that nice horse its beauful.

  • OH MY GOD THAT IS SO CUTE! hope the pony got lots of treats XD

  • wow

  • That is amazing. I've seen attempts at this move, but that is the best performance I've ever seen. So graceful, and for such a long distance - the horse makes it look effortless - as if it is a slow game. Truly a tribute to hours and hours of training I am certain. Thank you for posting.

  • So I understand it's to "enhance the natural behavior" but horses only swing their feet out at play a few times not as a gait. I just don't understand why people cannot enjoy the beauty of a horse for what they are not what we can make them.

  • @LifeIsDeceiving That's your opinion. But it helps the horse and that has been proven time and time again. I don't understand why people cannot enjoy something that truly helps the horse.

  • @LifeIsDeceiving

I have Iberian horses who do Spanish walk absolutely naturally when showing off in the field, my 5 yr old Lusitano mare, for a start. She has not at all been trained to do it- yet.

  • WOW

  • I'm not sure what is more impressive, the walk or the rider's ques, or lack there of. lol! thank you for posting this video, the horse is beautiful and the rider's seat is amazing too!

  • Amazing!

  • duct tape on feet lol you sick bastards

  • that is sick.

  • @monikacukor

In the "OMG that's awesome" type of way?

  • @RanHilEmJay

no, in way that is fucking torturing of an innocent animal..and it's not even awesome but forced spanish walk which is far away from perfect.. Horse here is soo nervous you can't imagine.. Look Nevzorov Haute Ecole spanish walk an you will see what is awesome.

  • @monikacukor

This is a long way from forced, and shows that you simply do not know what you are talking about. Nevzarov keeps his horses away from other horses so that they cannot develop in a natural way, being totally dependent on humans and not allowed to interact with other horses. He is what he always was- a KGB man, now inflicting his control on animals instead of other humans.

  • it looks weird haha xx

  • Absolutely beautiful, I'm glad you posted the video, thanks.

  • i always wanted to teach my pony this!

  • right cool! althought i'm guessing the spanish didn't have to get anwhere fast lol jk very very nice!!!

  • You need to find a trainer who knows how to teach this movement. It comes naturally to Iberian horses, like Andalusians and Lusitanos. My horse learned it quickly. But you must find someone who has taught it and knows what they are doing. I don't know where you live but here in VA I have access to a trainer with this type of experience. Do some research and ask around. Go to a local horse show that may feature Iberian horses or contact the national Andalusian club. Good luck.

  • how do you teach them to do that ? i really want to teach mine but i dont know how .. can you help me ?

  • I'm teaching my Andalusian the movement now. Spanish horses are a natural at this.

  • @tatonkagirl I'd like to teach my Anglo how to do this- but obv he's not really been trained to do other stuff. The most he does is backing up (in the way of tricks). I don't want to put any strain on him so would you say it's simple to teach?

    Thanks

  • this is a very stupid thing to make a horse do i unnatural and and painfull i hope that offel rider gets killed by her horse, the poor horse, i hope you all die for thinking this is beautiful

  • @12HorseGirl12 This movement comes naturally to Andalusian and Lustiano horses. It is NOT cruel or painful. In fact, many will use it as an evasion when they don't want to do what you want to do. Do a little research. Your ignorance is showing.

  • Beautiful. My horse tends to want to stomp when he does this. He's learning to do it softly but it takes time to get it right. The horse in the vid is awesome. He clearly is enjoying it. No tail wringing or ear pinning. Just calm, deliberate steps. Kudos to the trainer and the wonderful horse!

  • RAWWRS!!! I is coming to crush you!!! :P

  • Beautiful, I really want to teach my horse to do this, but I have no idea how.. lol

  • WOW :)

  • Was this video filmed in slow motion or is this the actual movement? Very beautiful and correctly performed!

  • The Ministry of Silly Walks will be enlisting horses very soon...

    Magnificent.

  • Im teaching my horse this atm xD hs only been doing it to days but hes really good already

  • Wow - not for the front legs, but for the activity of the hind ones!

  • hihih ^^ isn't that a compyter game :D ?

  • GORGEOUS

  • spanish walk is one of the most painful things a horse can go thru if they use the pressure pads etc.

its cruel and should be banned

  • ive been seen doing the same walk after about 26 beer

  • This may be a natural movement for a horse at play and during mating displays but I have yet to see one do this across an entire arena.

  • This may be a natural movement for a horse at play and during mating displays but I have yet to see one do this across an entire arena!

  • This may be a natural movement for the horse at play and during mating displays but I have yet to see one, do it for entire trips across an arena.

  • just put duct tape on the horses hoofs and you will see amazing things

  • hahahaahah stupid xD

  • Sorry, no. Remember that these moves were taught to war horses. They did not spend the time to perfect this just to be pretty. The Spanish Walk was used to clear people away from the front of the horse .

  • haha! This is one of the most foolish things I have ever seen in my life.

  • @calebkitson this is very serious, redneck

  • to get them to do it they make the horses wear weights. When the weights are removed the horses step as if the weights are still on and causes a high lift. Kinda mean as it is just walking as it was taught dont wanna have to run away on that horse for sure lmao

  • ok first of all....i've never seen anyone teach their horse this wearing weights...we tap their legs with whips, getting them to lift their legs. second of all: horses waering weights on their ankles wouldn't lift their legs this high...i know from experience having worked with walkers...thirdly: hoaw are weights mean??

  • Beautiful!

  • the pony i ride can do the spanish walk!!! except when you're patting him or grooming his shoulder he paws. XD

  • a little tape on its hooves and a bottle of jack daniels and what DO you get

EXCEPTIONAL drunken horse tipi toeing around OLA !!

  • I once rode an Andelusian stallion that not only would bow on command but also did a beautiful Spanish Walk. I ride/train/show Morgans, so that was all soooo new to me. It was awesome :-)

  • spanish are silly if they walk like that

  • It is a movement with a very long and rich history. It started as part of the pomp and cerimony of the royal courts in the classical era... but it is often used to develop freedom of the shoulders and elvation of the steps at other gaits.

It is most often done simply to show off though, which is exactly why horses do this movement with their legs naturally when at play. The training aspect just enhances the natual behavior.

  • @EmpressIllyria

Sorry, no. Remember that these moves were taught to war horses. They did not spend the time to perfect this just to be pretty. The Spanish Walk was used to clear people away from the front of the horse .

  • @EmpressIllyria lol, my geliding does it while squealing at the mares in the feild beside him :P verrrrryyy funny to whatch! lol!

  • @physcobigblock lol!

  • Wow. I've never seen a Spanish walk that controlled and that high. Very Nice.

  • The cowboy has deep historic roots tracing back to Spain and the earliest settlers of the Americas. The origins of the cowboy tradition come from Spain, beginning with the hacienda system of medieval Spain.

  • I think it are rather some strings out of the sky in that case ...

  • @physcobigblock

hahahahahaha!! :P also a posibillity xD

Great respect for that horse. Quite difficult, specially with a rider..

  • You have never worked with horses have you? Horses are not like cats and dogs.

  • I can't see very well because the vid is grainy, but have you got a running martingale on him? If so, why? That is not a natural gait and as a matter of fact, it can be painful because horses normally raise their heads when working front legs. I'm really not trying to be rude, just asking. :)

  • It is a natural movement, one of my 4 year olds does it whenever she walks past the bee hives Lol and when another mare comes on the property sometimes she will just hold up one as if she is pointing at the new horse lol it is very funny, but yes she really raises and arches her neck up high when she does it

  • What kind of horses have you got? Is the gait similar to that of the Tennessee Walkers? I wonder what the seat feels like? :-)

  • I think it is a breast plate, not a martingale. As far as raising their heads...it's not actually about raising their heads, but rather, raising their vertebrae, aka lifting their necks, to allow the shoulder to open. In the vid, you can see this happening everytime the horse takes a step. And it's not typically painful, unless the horse has a predisposing back problem - it's actually good for shoulder loosening and stretching of all connecting muscles, as well as back strengthening :)

  • @DiscoverMe277 - I had no idea about the neck/back opening like that when the head is raised. I would looooove to ride a horse like that. I've got a 12 yr old Mustang/Paint cross that cribs, kicks, is lazy, spoiled, won't load, spooks easily and tries to throw people into the fence. I could really use the Horse Whisperer! :)

  • Are you refering to the bandages used to protect the horses tendons and ligaments?

  • @physcobigblock : wow you obviously have no idea what the heck your talking about. Its called wraps, and their used to protect the tendons and ligaments, not make the horse "walk funny". They can walk perfectly fine w/o them. The spanish walk is a training technique used to develop a beautifully free shoulder so the horse can do dressage better.

  • imagine it had something stuck to its hooves and though "Why the hell are people watching me trying to get this off my hooves?!"

I'm not making fun of it, I actually really want to teach my horse this kind of stuff when I get one. =). That horse was stunning! The best I've ever seen!

  • Actually it is much like teaching a dog to "shake hands", the basic components of it are very easily taught by asking the horse to simply pick up its feet.

It is much easier to teach this movement from the ground, and then slowly work your way to having it done under a rider, and the more dominant your horse's natural disposition is the more easily it is taught

  • Thanks. =)

  • @SparklingHorse451

Kind of like a cat with tape on his paws. :)

  • beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Es un placer ver el arte ecuestre expresado de esta manera, felicidades , que hermoso caballo se nota que disfruta lo que hace y giado por un exelente jinete

  • fab horse

  • Great. the cool thing is the ride insn't yanking the bit or swinging his legs. very nice. And most horse who learn spanish walk actually enjoy doing it.

  • magic*

  • Wow!!!!!

  • gorgeous! anyone who says this is cruel doesn't know much about horses. the movement builds soft muscle in the horse.

  • so beautiful !!!

  • If you ever wanted a demo tape of how the Spanish Walk can be used to engage the full circle of muscles while suppling and stretching the forelegs and shoulder you have it here. And this is a lovely example of what can be done with time and skill. As to why you do it..besides the obvious beauty. To build soft muscle in the horse that the horse may cary your weight without soreness. Nothing what ever about this is cruel in any way.

  • wow! that is really cool

how is it cruel? if the horse really didn't want to it wouldn't. they are so much stronger than people.

  • -drools- SO PREETTYYY. Can I just like keep this horse forever? That was the most magnificent thing I've ever seen a horse do.

  • What a NICE spanish walk! This horse is very impressive!

  • WOW this is gorgeous, it is not creul at all in my opinion they are lucky to be trained by such high educated equestrians. This is soo beautiful and stunns me.

  • Honestly I dont see how this is cruel, all it is, is teaching the horse to paw while walking. Beautiful!

  • Its beautiful but I dont think that he's been forced or that it is cruel. If you watch a herd of broodmares sorting out their pecking order in the paddock thats cruel, they just back up kicking and kicking harder. You can see the effort this horse is putting in and the obvious effort of the trainer to make this so refined and of such quality :-)

  • Most horses ENJOY learning this movement, it is a natural play behavior. Many have to be taught NOT to do it until asked!

In fact, if you ask a horse who knows it, to do ANYTHING ELSE that they do not care to be doing... they can tend to offer this instead! Albeit not of great quality, but it tends to be a favorite movement because it is a NATURAL DOMINANCE/PLAY behavior. You will see mares and stallions do this often at play and when they are flirting or trying to impress eachother.

  • @saddlepotato159 'poor horse' a horse that is not enjoying itself will show it, 100% no question, a horse isnt happy he wont dance, a horse isnt happy he wont smile, a horse isnt happy he will buck, and when a horse is unhappy his ears say so too....

So, watch this video againnn, but take in the fact THAT its ears are forward the whole time and it is very smooth, meaning the horse is expected and enjoying the fact that it is doing such movements, so please, that comment is unnecesary thanks...

  • @saddlepotato159 I teach this trick, so do a lot of other people, it's a simple maneuver to teach, tap them behind the knees lightly, this will make them lift their leg, in a fly reaction sort of way. Hold the knee and say a command like 'strike' or 'step and move the hoof infront of them, reward and repeat and this should get them to pick up their hoof and strike out. the horse is really is just taking a BIG step and he gets a treat everytime. my pony does this and i didnt even teach her it

  • @saddlepotato159 You cannot read a horses mind, either. Although there are people who use dominance methods to train their horses based on punishment, not reward, it is not the only method used by everyone. You come across as a closed minded cynic when you respond the way you are. Open your mind a little and look for some good instead of only seeing bad.

  • @saddlepotato159 Fine, if you were to go to football practice and the coach told you to walk with high knees, you would do it, cuz really, its not too hard... Its not like this horse is exhausted from a few rounds around the ring... Im sure many would agree with that because its partly a natural action for horses. This is proved by watching horses play, they high knee like no tomorrow! Walk around for a bit with high knees, its really not torture.

  • @saddlepotato159 thats about a 1,000 pound animal. You can't force it to do anything. Obviously the horse wants to please and learn.

  • Comment removed

  • @saddlepotato159 why are you fighting this so much? there are like 100+ people on this video alone that agree that this movement is not cruel or harsh! It's taught with a small tap on their legs and some leg movement guidance, horses are like dogs in some ways, you think you can force a dog to jump a jump? No, one of my dogs wont do jumps in agility at all, just doesnt like them, you can't force a horse to raise its leg, this is a natural playing/mating behavior! Stop arguing this -you're wrong

  • @saddlepotato159 if the horse didnt want to do it, the horse wouldnt do it you fooooool.

  • @horsegirleve2 Well, that's a dumb argument. People are made to do things they don't want to do all the time. How are horses any different?

(not agreeing with saddlepotato159 - I've just heard one too many abusive trainer use this argument and it bugs me)

  • @feioo suppose so but i wouldn't say its torture or anything what the horse is doing, you can get worse...

  • well it's not actually THAT good ; the film is slowed down and it would look very different at normal speed.

  • Actually it IS, even slowed down, the motion and fluidity through it is better than the violent striking alot of horses do with this motion, where even if you speed it up, the horse still performs it with outstanding control and still one of the best examples of this movement I have ever seen... just look at the sheer number of consecutive steps as well, and then try to find a better video of this in exicution!

  • OK I agree, but I still wish we could've seen it at normal speed .

  • maybe that was just her opinion no need 2 b rude. it should b in normal speed tho

  • Rudeness is a matter of perception. I do not feel it was rude at all to make a very obvious correction. It is somewhat rude and presumptious to say that this is ANYTHING LESS than a spectacular display of this movement, even if the video is slowed to emphesise its quality of exicution. (which for the record I did not do, this is precisely how it was sent to me)

I stand firm in my asserting that it is an outstanding display, and again assert if you can find a better one, I would LOVE to see it

  • oh shit :D

    pretty horse.

  • this is great but some people put this stuff i cant remember whats it called and den wrap it up for a couple or mins and it makes the horse do that it could leave so much badly damage but i RESPECT all off you who dont harm them like that and do it the kind way just half the show people cant be bothered to do hard work =/

  • It isn't a forced method, horses would get the movement wrong, or rush it if there was even an ounce of violence towards the horse in training. I teach my own to spanish walk, by teaching 'shake' from the front, then attempting with just voice commands from the side, then once he has mastered that, we try the command on top of the horse with a person on the ground, then you add the command with leg pressure, then we drop the command completely and run it just from leg pressure. Perfect. Gorgeous

  • beautiful display! I've been attempting to train my horse to do the spanish walk (he'll "shake" and do the walk in hand). what exact cues are used in the saddle to ask the horse do the spanish walk?

  • that is beautifulll

  • look how high the horse lift its legs

  • great vid, but isnt the spanish walk more correctly done when the horse lifts his knee strait up, points strait out, and levers down? the horse looks really great doing it but seems to be trowing his leg a bit and not getting the straitness

  • One question: How?

  • he looks cute doing that :3

  • You CANNOT force a correct Spanish Walk. So do not be fooled.

It teaches the horse to lift his shoulders which equates to a more beautiful and more pronounced Piaffe and passage. The slowness in motion should be as such.

  • Is it in slow motion?

  • is it in slow-mo??

  • yes a bit, look at the tail.

  • I think it's wonderfull, but I think that this is learend on a harsh way.

  • It isnt always taught harshly, my horses were taught it as a game, and they LOVE to play it! They offer it when you ask them to do something else, because its their favorite thing! \

but like all things, it CAN be perversly misinterpreted and taught harshly... just dont be fooled into thinking that the bad ways are the ONLY ways it is done! Positive reinforcement training works wonders also

  • Someone I know trainer her horse to do it by making it just a trick "shake" when sh e was on the ground and eventually got on and had someone on the ground give the cue. Soon she understood how to do it with just a rider,.

  • OM NOM NOM

  • that is the first time i have ever seen it look so effortless. the horse and rider almost mad it look as though it was normal,

  • Comment removed

  • Actually the traditional way to teach this does NOT involve that. It involves teaching the horse to "shake hands" like you would teach a dog (called Jambette). It is a natural play behavior, and when taught properly is like ballet for the horse's front end.

It is NOT anything like what they do to Saddlebreds or Walkers for the show ring at all.

  • ...to SOME Saddlebreds or Walkers...not all...

  • I never implied it was to ALL saddlebreds or Walkers. I happen to own both, and I know for certain none of MINE have ever had any of the abuses perpetuated upon them,

But when one does go to look for breed information, alot of what you will encounter for those breeds involves alot of "Enhancement" via artificial means, it is a part of the breed's history and tradition, which is undeniable. Which is what I was saying.

  • that horse is SEXY

  • it looks like its in slow-mo

  • it is. look at the tail.

  • oh yea, lol

  • increible, es preciooso

  • wow usually horses pick them up then slam them down not do it that gracefully !! wow

  • gotta be the best spanish walk i have seen a while!

  • how do they teach those horses how to pick their legs up like that?

  • it looks like a computer game....

  • He is AMAZING!!!!

What breed is he? PRE? He looks a little like a Warmblood!

  • What kind of a horse is this????

  • WOW truly awesome.

  • weird shit you watch Ping

  • all i can say is NOM NOM NOM YUMM

  • I agree. The horse is TOTALLY saying that in its head. what unfitting music. lawl

  • that "paso español" is very high!!

ese paso español es muy elevado!!

    impresionant!!

  • tht is a perfect spanish walk

  • wow i've never seen a horse do it better than that one!

  • apsalutely amzing how do u teach ur horse this?

i wanna teach it me horse TARA !!!

  • somebody can tell me the name of this song???

  • Cavaleria Rusticana - Pietro Mascagni

  • wow! quite unusual :D

  • terrific! beautiful form!

  • now it likes an alien horse

  • AMAZING!!!!!!

This is how spanish walk should be performed. Not all horses are capable of doing it without losing rhythm and relaxation, but this horse is so free and supple, he might as well be free walking.

  • This is amazing.

  • wooow, so natural and perfect, and relaxed! love it

  • Le jour où j'y arrive avec Love... On fête ça!

  • Buenisimo paso español ! que maravilla

  • So pretty!

  • bet that horse loves it when the rider stretches it´s frontlegs after riding and doing that spanish walk :) My mare always almost did the job herself when after riding I stretched hers :D Her face looked like "ooooooh yeah thaaaat´s the spot" heh

  • oh my! thats so pretty looking :)

  • wow, that's simply lovely

  • My horsey does that in his field when he meets new horses! Beautiful vid :)

  • A perfect example of the spanish walk being preformed natually. I know horses that do it as well. What a fantastic walk!

  • beautiful but also kinda amusing

  • thats kinda..weird lol it looks like a zombie horse in a beautiful way tho!
