Hi I make bespoke jewellery and I have often thought that I should make a video of myslf making a ring at my bench to, however my wife is just no good with a camera and it would be impossible for me to film myself I enjoyed your video it was very well made thanks
mmmmm... shiny things........I find that wearing leather gloves when I polish allows me to "get in there" with out worrying about heat or the wheel snatching it from my hands.
my grandpa had a metal shop and when i was younger i use to work along side him. too bad i gave all the rings away that i made. anyways i was wondering when u said copper rings how u can wear something like that without turning your finger green.
Yeah, working with metal is fun. Everyone should make a ring.
Most people won't run out and purchase silver or gold stock, so for the sake of keeping it cheap, you can start with large copper electrical wire. Coil it around a pipe, and then cut off a portion of the coil, and you end up with a nice C shape piece of metal. This is how they used to make mail amour, but it works well on a larger scale for jewelry.
When I forge my rings I forge weld the ends together.

this isn't forging a ring..... this is shaping some sheet with a mandril and then soldering it.... Which is fine, it's just not forging.

That's very close quarters for the fingers and hands! Beautiful result though, great work!

Whats that white powder?
Mutske161 3 years ago
I'm guessing it's being used to anneal the ring, or get the flux off. it might be talc (gypsum)

What was the machine you put the ring in right before you were sanding it with the rotary tool?
