The only similarity they share between them is their crystal mythology, which is why Square gave the compilation a gratuitous Latin name like "Fabula Nova Crystallis." They take place in the same world, but at different time periods.
It's seems like the games from all the XIII series are being released backwards. This game seem's more historic or what might have happened first, FFXIII versus seems more modern. FFXIII with lightning etc seems to be the more futuristic. Especially with the destruction of the fal'cie
@Burnoutparade The control scheme and mechanics for FF13 is fine. It's the flexibility that FF13 lack. There should be a option too keep the new, and old into one.
Wow the start of a new famous game. If you think about it, first they are making a game which is in the same original universe but the story is UNrelated (Versus) and now i find they are making a Agito. Very nice Square Enix.

I disagree i found the first 10 chapters very linear and if you're a real FF fan and followed it from the beginning, you'd know that linear doesnt sit well with us lot. I thought after chapter 10 it opened up - back into a 'real' Final Fantasy Epic... The linear gameplay at the beginning made it way too easy. but thats just my opinion.

the whole game was linear and the story was repeating itself. That game had the most Demo that i have ever seen in a game but unfortunatly they were repeating the same think like: why are we fighting? we should stick together? we can make our future? bla bla bla. There was no plot twist in the game. And the charakters are forgetable unlike other FF games. FFXIII is an average game becouse it has fantastik graphics and they tried some new stuff here and there. but it lacked alot

For some reason? It's bleedin' obvious why it reminds you of Hitler and WWII. Gameplay in this looks like it could be a real show stopper. For sure it can't be any worse than the last, play for 60 hours down a linear corridor path, outing.

Another awful FF game....ffs, wish they'd go back to ff1 - 10 style games. World maps, proper fighting system, charachters that weren't lame as hell. When they changed from squaresoft to enix, they fucked it all up. These games wouldn't sell a single copy if it wasn't for the name final fantasy.

@marcocoelo Dunno man, have been massively disappointed by 11,12,13, crisis core, that cerberus one. All lame as hell. Ff7 will go down in history as the best game i've ever played. They have lost it and people will eventually realise how shit these games are. Nice gfx, but incredibly lame.
@fionnoc you forgot to mention 14, its the worst EVER, i wont complain about 11 cause i never played it and i dont want to xD! but i did enjoy Dirge of Cerberus, i dont call it a rpg but still, i had fun playin it, about 12, i dunno wtf they were thinkin :S and 13, i loved the story, but the rest is just...kinda crap :s yea final fantasy 7 was good, so was the crisis core, but my favourite from all time was 10 because it had a good story, good battle system(i miss rpg's so much xS) and good gfx
@fionnoc I have to disagree. I will admit that some of the newer ones pale in comparison to their predecessors however, games are ALWAYS best as originals. I love newer Mario games even though Mario 64 and Super Mario Bros. are the best. I played Final Fantasy XII and XIII and liked them both. People keep saying "Final Fantasy is changing to much" however I GUARANTEE that if they never changed people would be complaining about how Final Fantasy I is the same as XIII.
@DemonIronWolf These games have nothing on their predecessors. What was good about 13? A terrible fighting system that gave no challenge. Basically you run forward a few steps, fight something, watch a video about some douche bags talking nonsense, run forward a bit more in a straight line, find a treasure chest, run forward, fight some monster for 2 seconds, run forward, another video.
The game can be summed up accurately in 1 word: Linear
@DemonIronWolf FF wouldn't be disliked for sticking to their old fighting systems and trademark things like world maps, customizing weapons. The freedom to explore etc. This is why sales are declining. FF13 sold ok because they ploughed money in to advertising (adding a god awful pop song by that Lewis biatch). But overall, FF sales are declining, and expected to get worse. Nobody complained about ff1-10 being the same kind of game. As I said before, ff13 is just linear.
@DemonIronWolf Other FFs weren't like that. There was puzzles, worlds to explore, towns to explore, freedom to move aroudn basically. Customizing charachters, side stories etc. The only true thing you said was that yeah you could level up like mad, but you couldn't be more than 20 above, or else the enemy went up many levels. There was stages they would level up, but anyway that was by choice. I played through half of ff13 and it was piss easy, didn't lose a single fight.
@fionnoc FF 13 DID take away a lot of freedom. I will admit that. In place they tried to set a better story. I was ticked when I first learned about the limited freedom, however I also fell in love with the new combat system. It is really close to the classic turn based style everyone knows. They just tried to get fancy with it. The only difference is they move around in the midst of battle. Also, 20 levels was an exaggeration, but you still get my point. And lastly FF 13 is certainly NOT easy.
@fionnoc you have a possibility of dying during any random encounter with any random enemy. sometimes what seem like simple fights turn into grudge matches because you aren't paying attention to something. I am not saying it is the greatest game ever. It has its flaws, but it also has a lot of good points that many people overlook so easily. I personally think all the bugs will be fixed in versus XIII, agito looks good so far to, but I haven't seen gameplay for it yet.

Every games review site rates it the same, some a lot worse. I personally would rather watch a good film, then play a good game as opposed to playing a combination of both which isn't as good as either.
@fionnoc I actually do agree with these ratings very well. I would put FF 13 a little higher, but 10 and 7 were easily the best. FF XIII did get one of the top games of 2010 though. Also I think a story driven game is really good when done right. If you have played Dragon Age or the Mass Effect series then you know what I am talking about.
@fionnoc Walk two steps, fight a ton of random encounter monsters that take a second to kill, watch a cut scene, open a chest...that is EVERY FF GAME EVER MADE! I will give you that FF 13 has more cut scenes than earlier ones, however if anything this game is more difficult than previous ones. You have the possibility of dying on any random battle on this one. You cant over power your characters like you can in every other one. I remember playing X or VII, 20 levels above everything and pwning.

For some reason? It's bleedin' obvious why it reminds you of Hitler and WWII. Gameplay in this looks like it could be a real show stopper. For sure it can't be any worse than the last, play for 60 hours down a linear corridor path, outing.

Another awful FF game....ffs, wish they'd go back to ff1 - 10 style games. World maps, proper fighting system, charachters that weren't lame as hell. When they changed from squaresoft to enix, they fucked it all up. These games wouldn't sell a single copy if it wasn't for the name final fantasy.

@fionnoc i tottaly agree, it looks like when they changed the name, theive changed the quality of the games aswell, i still like final fantasy, but not like before, i just hope final fantasy versus 13 is as good as it looks, im really lookin foward to it :D

@marcocoelo Dunno man, have been massively disappointed by 11,12,13, crisis core, that cerberus one. All lame as hell. Ff7 will go down in history as the best game i've ever played. They have lost it and people will eventually realise how shit these games are. Nice gfx, but incredibly lame.

@fionnoc you forgot to mention 14, its the worst EVER, i wont complain about 11 cause i never played it and i dont want to xD! but i did enjoy Dirge of Cerberus, i dont call it a rpg but still, i had fun playin it, about 12, i dunno wtf they were thinkin :S and 13, i loved the story, but the rest is just...kinda crap :s yea final fantasy 7 was good, so was the crisis core, but my favourite from all time was 10 because it had a good story, good battle system(i miss rpg's so much xS) and good gfx

@fionnoc I have to disagree. I will admit that some of the newer ones pale in comparison to their predecessors however, games are ALWAYS best as originals. I love newer Mario games even though Mario 64 and Super Mario Bros. are the best. I played Final Fantasy XII and XIII and liked them both. People keep saying "Final Fantasy is changing to much" however I GUARANTEE that if they never changed people would be complaining about how Final Fantasy I is the same as XIII.

@DemonIronWolf These games have nothing on their predecessors. What was good about 13? A terrible fighting system that gave no challenge. Basically you run forward a few steps, fight something, watch a video about some douche bags talking nonsense, run forward a bit more in a straight line, find a treasure chest, run forward, fight some monster for 2 seconds, run forward, another video.
The game can be summed up accurately in 1 word: Linear

@DemonIronWolf FF wouldn't be disliked for sticking to their old fighting systems and trademark things like world maps, customizing weapons. The freedom to explore etc. This is why sales are declining. FF13 sold ok because they ploughed money in to advertising (adding a god awful pop song by that Lewis biatch). But overall, FF sales are declining, and expected to get worse. Nobody complained about ff1-10 being the same kind of game. As I said before, ff13 is just linear.

@DemonIronWolf Other FFs weren't like that. There was puzzles, worlds to explore, towns to explore, freedom to move aroudn basically. Customizing charachters, side stories etc. The only true thing you said was that yeah you could level up like mad, but you couldn't be more than 20 above, or else the enemy went up many levels. There was stages they would level up, but anyway that was by choice. I played through half of ff13 and it was piss easy, didn't lose a single fight.

@fionnoc FF 13 DID take away a lot of freedom. I will admit that. In place they tried to set a better story. I was ticked when I first learned about the limited freedom, however I also fell in love with the new combat system. It is really close to the classic turn based style everyone knows. They just tried to get fancy with it. The only difference is they move around in the midst of battle. Also, 20 levels was an exaggeration, but you still get my point. And lastly FF 13 is certainly NOT easy.

@fionnoc you have a possibility of dying during any random encounter with any random enemy. sometimes what seem like simple fights turn into grudge matches because you aren't paying attention to something. I am not saying it is the greatest game ever. It has its flaws, but it also has a lot of good points that many people overlook so easily. I personally think all the bugs will be fixed in versus XIII, agito looks good so far to, but I haven't seen gameplay for it yet.

@DemonIronWolf Dunno mate, I'd def say it's most linear game I ever played. I think they ruined it. Even check out IGN ratings for latest FF's, although I must say I would have far worse reviews for 11 onwards.

Every games review site rates it the same, some a lot worse. I personally would rather watch a good film, then play a good game as opposed to playing a combination of both which isn't as good as either.

@fionnoc I actually do agree with these ratings very well. I would put FF 13 a little higher, but 10 and 7 were easily the best. FF XIII did get one of the top games of 2010 though. Also I think a story driven game is really good when done right. If you have played Dragon Age or the Mass Effect series then you know what I am talking about.

@fionnoc Walk two steps, fight a ton of random encounter monsters that take a second to kill, watch a cut scene, open a chest...that is EVERY FF GAME EVER MADE! I will give you that FF 13 has more cut scenes than earlier ones, however if anything this game is more difficult than previous ones. You have the possibility of dying on any random battle on this one. You cant over power your characters like you can in every other one. I remember playing X or VII, 20 levels above everything and pwning.
