  • Gilbert and the Shredders are an enigma to me, they have an enormous amount of technical talent yet seem to produce very middle of the road and dead sounding music. I have rarely listened to a Vai, Malmsteen, Gilbert, Batio, Govan and others cd's and been blown away by the actual song. I have been impressed by the speed of playing. I think these guys are hailed as the best more for their technical achievements and speed rather than the actual listenability of the music they produce.

It's just down to taste, I guess, because I certainly appreciate Paul's writing talent as well as his playing. But I know what you mean. When playing instrumental guitar music you really are limiting yourself to a "guitar geek" audience, who take their instrument very seriously, and like to be challenged by the music they hear. The players are often trying to break the mold in terms of composing and playing, rather than just getting a catchy chorus.

  • @Thespeakerofmanytru8

Paul can definitely write great songs, though. Check out "Green Tinted Sixties Mind", if you haven't already. And Joe Satriani does some great, melody driven ballads too.

  • as mike portnoy would say..."lock and Lol"hahaha

  • not his best song yet good one!

  • ok paul gilbert you got the point... im going to learn all your musics from this cd

AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH cant find a bigger word to describe this :P

  • Aaand one m0:00re time

  • Finally! A kickass song in 7/8!

  • PG is like the best player on earth but i just dont like his music :S

  • @Aremine You are awesome.

It pisses me off so much that people think you have to like someones work to respect it. But you understand that respecting a someone and liking is work are 2 different things, i love PG both his work and his skills. But i just can't get into Yngwie's work yet i understand his influence in music is what made what i like today. So of all guitarist he is one i respect most.

  • some parts sound like 'I Caught Fire' by the ab-Used. im kidding, alright, they were my favourite band at 14. You can really tell hes influenced by new rock or whatever you want to call it

  • None of you will ever have the abilities PG has, because he sold his soul to the devil in exchange for an extendable robot pinky. No other human can have the same pinky potential. ;]

  • Like the other songs on this album, awesome musicality.

  • not his best album

  • Damn, he plays guitar better than I do.

  • @Daim0th no shit XD

  • @jass820

    He won't always, though.

  • @Daim0th Right behind Shawn Lane and Allan Holdsworth, Gilbert's easily the best guitarist technically on the planet....

  • @PianoWireAbortion Ever hear of Guthrie Govan?

  • @jass820 Guthrie's ridiculously versatile, but I'd never compare him to Lane and Holdsworth, and technically I wouldn't even put him up with Gilbert, honestly.

  • @PianoWireAbortion , Ok thats garbage. Paul gilbert is my faveourite guitarist and my idol. HOWEVER, i can at least be sane and honest in admitting that govan is technically better. Seriously check out these 2 videos ( i will forward them to you ! Govan is flawless and awesome ! However gilbert will always be the guy i type into my youtube search bar 9/10 :)

  • @stavsantis

Exactly dude! Paul Gilbert is my Life Idol, but I'm very very sure Guthrie Govan is further in technical ability and (In my opinion) Guthrie Govan is extremely creative with emotion in his playing (Waves, Ner Ner [with Ritchie Kotzen!], Sevens) those are just small examples of how ridiculously good Govan is. But once again, I come back to Gilbert because of the emotion I get from his music (well, same with Govan, but PG's my favorite of all-time). Search The Aristocrats GG, MM, BB

  • @PianoWireAbortion I don't know, I think that if Guthrie wanted to he could match them technically! And I think all guitars aside, he's the most creative general musician, in my opinion anyway. But it doesn't matter, they're all so brilliant! I'd love to see a Guthrie-Gilbert collaboration show!

  • @PianoWireAbortion I know you wrote this 3 months ago, but seriously? Not better then Gilbert? If you truly believe that then you're a retard.

  • @ErlingMK I respect Govan a whole lot, don't get me wrong, but Gilbert has a perfect technique that has been copied by generations of people and is a fantastic teacher. Govan puts out more interesting music (he is a fusion guitarist, after all) and is a brilliant improviser, but when it comes to personal opinion, Gilbert never ceases to impress me.

  • @PianoWireAbortion I prefer Gilbert over Govan too, what I meant was that Govan, technically speaking, could probably play anything Gilbert could. Sorry for the harsh words in the last comment. But, technically Gilbert playing are not too impressive, except for the speed and clarity, but Govan takes it too a whole other level, imo.

  • @ErlingMK .....As a guitar player, there is no "Better or worse," it's more about style. No one plays like Govan.......and no one Plays like Gilbert. Quit making it a competition. If all you play is Blues, you're a Blues Player.... If all you play is Fusion, then you are a Fusion Guitarist... If you are Gilbert, THEN YOU ARE EVERYTHING FUKTARD !!!!

  • @jass820 guthrie is great but he gets kind of boring sometimes , paul is great all the time

  • @daniel245 Well I guess you have your own opinions and that's great! I guess if you like more rock/metal stuff you'd like Paul, and if your more into jazz/blues/fusion you like Guthrie! I like both so Guthrie never gets boring for me! If you don't like Guthrie's solo stuff check out Asia, and his new band who's first album comes out this September: The Aristocrats with Marco Minneman and Bryan Beller! It's all so awesome though!

  • @jass820 yeah , i guess your right, im more into blues /rockn n roll /metal and guthrie is more jazzy fuiosionny and if your into that i guess guthrie suits you better :) .

  • @daniel245 apples and oranges they're too different styles. 8)

  • @Daim0th Well good luck with that!

  • @Daim0th That was a joke right?

  • 0:53-1:25 makes me dance, and I'm rhytmically impaired so thats saying something. Epic song, PG rocks my socks :)

  • @Yodanigger Dancing in 7 is definitely something ! :P PG Rocks yeahh
