My daughter and i just made this for her fifth birthday cake, a chopped block of white chocolate in the mix and er favourite sweetened whipped cream frosting....thank you Betty you are so great! Theres nothing more lovely than homemade ;D
@NadimahElizabeth Thanks for your great comment! The chopped white chocolate and whipped cream frosting sound like wonderful additions! I hope your daughter has a Happy Fifth Birthday!
I never thought about making the center of the batter lower to prevent a higher rise. That's always been such a pain when I bake. Thanks, Betty! That's a great tip that I'll certaintly be using! ;)
Hi betty. I just love baking cakes! It's my favorite treat to make! But I never understood why you alternate flour to milk flour to milk. I've heard it a lot of times, but I don't know why this step is so important. Does it have something to do with the forming gluten thing?
@HerculesFullFandub Yep i have heard about it too. Here in Finland that is done in many recipes. I just have a Betty´s yellow cake waiting in the oven right now, it looks very fluffy and the color looks amazing :) :)
@Evelyn40420 I did a recipe exactly like this about a year ago. This time, due to the lack of flour, I replaced a bit of the flour with cornstarch. I sifted the dry-ingredients mix, and I added them to the egg batter as Betty says: alternating it with milk. Suddenly I wanted to make a risky experiment, and instead of using the mixer for integrating the flour and milk, I mixed them all by hand. The result was... overwhelming!:D :D.... lighter than air and amazingly fluffy! like never before
Thanks for the recipe Betty ! To answer the question about sponge cake - sponge cake is when you mix whole eggs with sugar and beat till stiff. You do add some fat, typically vegetable oil or melted butter.
With the ingredients halved, is it about the same size as a grocery store sheet cake? My son's birthday is Thursday and I bought a box mix for his birthday dinner but this looks simple enough to mix up.
@moovlvrtew If you halved it, it should be about the size of an 8-inch by 8-inch baking pan. It is easy to mix up, and will make a nice, smaller cake. It would be 1/2 the size of the finished cake that I cut in my 1000th video.
I wanted to comment on the 1000 video, but it wouldn't let me. I just wanted to say that was so sweet of you to do for ur viewers and I saw my name too! I was so happy. Congrats on ur 10000 video an ur accomplishments are so well deserved. Ur a beautiful person inside and out and such a treat to watch. We love love love you Betty. U r truly the best.
Great lookin' Yellow cake,....er....for high altitude most boxed cake mixes tell ya to add one teaspoon or one tablespoon of flour and increase/decrease by 1 teaspoon the liquid(water or milk), the same thing applys here dear Betty? Lookin' GOOD,...Thumbs up to ya all and thankin' ya for an AWESOME 1001 video!! = )
Betty, a good tip to keep your cakes from rising so tall in the center is to bake your cakes at a lower temp. bake at 325 for about 40-45 minutes vs 375 for 20 minutes. It will come out more dense and moist. Just a tip.
Great cake recipe! My aunt made a similar cake she called her " 1 2 3 4 " cake based on the ingredients 1 cup butter, 2 cups, sugar etc. It was a dense yellow cake and I remember it fondly. Doesn't matter if you ice it or dust with powdered sugar, it's still delicious. Thanks for reminding me if this wonderful cake
hey Betty i love your videos they are very help full, i watch all the sandwiches ones!!! i have a question... what would happen if i add all eggs at the same time???? Thank you!!! Vanny
Congratulations on your 1000 videos! I wanted to thank you for your great tip of making a depression in the middle of the cake batter before baking it so you won't get that hump. I find myself using that tip even when I make sandwiches! I spread the filling out from the middle so it will be even to the edges of the bread. Again thank you for the great tip!
Good evening. Thank you for the sharing of this video. Again a new recipe who seems to be very good. That's very good. All are delicious pastries in general. Unfortunately, sometimes it is not recommended for health. Thank you very much for what you do. Respectfully.
Looks Great. Have been looking for a good cake recipie and will try this. A Skid-proof Silicone Place mat would prevent the bowel from sliding on counter.
I was thinking, do you know if any of your old students are watching your cooking show? I imagine watching my math teacher cook, on camera, for youtube - the idea is quite funny to me! Good job, Betty! :)
Looks really good Betty, My granddaughter will be one and I'm going to make this cake. I thought you might take a little break after the 1000th episode but I'm glad for a new video. I went all the way back into the archives to look for recipes to make in my new kitchen, but they were superbowl ones. Can't wait for that, so I'm making your elegant chicken cordon bleu,Betty's browned butter mashed potatoes and your creamy yellow squash casserole.I'll let you now how it turns out.
Hey look I can view this video to bad I could not see the 1000th video because it was set for people who view with phones can't see it :/ I watched every one of your videos then I get booted watching this video would be pointless
Thanks for the video and written recipe
