  • put it in a vaccum then itll last ages or better yet replace the ambient gasses with aargon and i think nitrogen might work aswell

  • 0:25 backfire :P

  • It's all fun and games till you burn your finger on it

  • @TimpBizkit "Told you not to touch that darn thing" -TF2 Engineer

  • that's good look

  • i did this with 32a and it exploded

  • what kinda battery you need??

  • how should i charge it with power????

  • can u give me the steps of doing it plzz

  • i did this with 6A:)

  • ive touched the legs of a 200v 500mf capacitor, which instantaneously made the lead disappear, idk vaporized, or tiny fragments but it was LOUD

  • i was bored one day in ap chem and I had my bike light battery I made with me, so I did this. It was a 10a/h 12v battery.

  • @ilikepie9519 did u burn anything?

  • @260830107 The plastic insulation on my wires burned and I shorted the battery pack on the desk's steel tubing blowing a hole in the steel.

  • @260830107 Nope, but I shorted it out on the desk which blue a hole hrew the steel tubing :) But then the teacher took my battery.

  • dude how many volts do you require???? please tell me

  • @tridentvii 12 volts should be enough, if not then try 24v

  • @260830107 thanks i was abt to try direct a/c[230v]

  • they used to make vacuum tubes by burning the gas out of it with magnesium, because apparently it actually burns nitrogen as well as oxygen,

should set something and throw it inside and seal, will not corrode the graphite and whatever else they make them with.

Any smoke will diffuse the light as well :D

  • WHAT FAILED ? Title said light from pincle lead. You did it in BOTH #! & #2

Didn't say anything about how long.

I give this video 5 stars

  • Your lead is too long, and will keep breaking because of thermal stress. Use a shorter thicker lead with a current regulator.

  • probably would work better with thicker lead. Something like this is how prisoners light cigarettes in prison.

  • now i know how to make a light saber xD

  • Pencils are not made from lead. They are made from a finely ground graphite and clay. The smoke and gases created from the graphite is highly toxic.

  • @patriotblackops good god, thank you. someone else finally knows.

  • @patriotblackops Is this true? 100% i meen?

  • first off, the alligator clips put stress on the lead, secure it down, then maybe think about a non oxide moisture free environment.

  • canadaian! yay! :D

  • when i was in juvy we would hookup a full length pencil to the outlet to light cigarettes. it pop and crackled a lot and started the wood on fire.

  • like the Edison light bulb

  • 0:28 Shield generator?

  • i connected mine to a 12 volt lead acid battery and it smoked for a sec then exploded hot pieces of carbon on me. do i have to many volts/amps?

  • @firealarmtech yea if you're using a honkin big lead acid battery from a car it might pump out too many amps and make it explode, try using a 12v transformer thats rated 2-5 amps

  • @260830107 How come my only smokes?

  • @260830107 batteries don't "pump out amps", the current will depend on the resistance. the amp rating just tells you what the maximum current (ie minimum resistance) it can handle.

  • @firealarmtech You can make a simple resistor out of stuff you have at home.

You need a plastic bowl, water, salt, some wire, and some metal bits - nuts or bolts or even tin foil. Put the water and salt in the bowl. Hook up one end of your carbon like you did before, but cut the wire to the other end in half (or use 2 wires). Hook your metal bits to the two wire ends, and put them in the bowl some distance apart. More salt or closer together = more current; further apart = more resistance.

  • @CykciM thanks! ill try that

  • there are really lot of stupid know nothing people ^_^, If i pissed you off then perhaps your one of these people. By the way this is intended for safety ignition a cheap alternative way for example if you wish to ignite a semi-dangerous fireworks this will work just fine. You can detonate it at a distance. You can always analyze things up, thats if you have the brain.

    Regards.

  • Now put it in a vacuum jar, filled with argon. :D

  • @BlueRaptorTiger just like a regular ligth bulb eh? did you know that when Thomas Edison invented the light bulb, he has a way to make it last forever? But then he thought twice and figured that he won't make much money if no one ever changes their light bulbs.

  • @260830107 Buy them in bulk, replace every 20-30 seconds. Lol

  • @260830107 did you know your retarded? and nothing lasts for ever? except aids?

  • @260830107 Americans should just buy British light bulbs, we have 240V and our bulbs last for ages if they are run on American 110V supplies.

  • @260830107 You know how he make it last forever??

  • @260830107 There's a firehouse, I think it's in boston, that has one of those types of edison bulbs in it. It's been lit for 104+ years without changing it.

  • @260830107 read about Nikola Tesla! ;P

  • @260830107 it's called "Planned obsolescence" and not only light bulbs would last much longer if it weren't for that...

check out the wikipedia. org/wiki/Phoebus_cartel about the history of the light bulb.

  • @260830107 forever is a long time. Kind of like going to heaven.....forever?

I remember urban legends like cars that ran on water but were kept secret by a conspiracy of auto and oil.

You would think when when the end of incandescence was in sight like with compact fluorescence they'd have

come out with the "everlasting bulb" just because? You know? Quick money?

  • put a candle in a jar and light it up. and put in the lead connected to the batery but dont let it touch the candle fire. close the cap and the lead wont break easily!

  • Cool

  • ot would have been great if it blew up in your face

  • cheap leads bend when you apply current because of their non pure content. try a tombo one, you can make it glow until it completely burns.

  • you could put the second claw lose like it only touches it not 'holds' it., the pencil breaks because it expands and returns , when its holded it is getting to tight etc...

    soz bout my english

  • ну и что? обыкновенная демонстрация графитовой лампы. Такие раньше применяли.

  • the thing breaks because there is stress caused by the positioning of the wires. if the clips were mounted together on an insulated armature, your filament will not break unless under its own weight or other external shock or degradation.

  • hey 260830107 try using it in O2 removed jar

  • photoelectric effect

  • toaster!

  • Check this out for awesome montages

This guy deserves tons of more subscribers.. /user/BTF2Revolution

  • i remember when Fred Savage did that in the movie "Little Monsters" .... loved that part!

  • Try it in vacuum !

  • Nice! Just what mister Edison did! =)

  • my knob is enormous

  • @CarnalDiafragma cool story :D

  • @260830107 :D

  • @CarnalDiafragma My left ball is twice the size of my right one

  • @aei05h1

    sweet!

  • i have done this before and i hooked it up to a larger amp power supply and actually used it for soldering! It works very well for very very small soldering jobs expecially if you shave the led to a point

  • MY PENIS IS ERECT!

  • You should do it in vacuum. Otherwise, the lead is going to be oxidized and break

  • @wsj90622 Also on the other hand resistivity of graphite decreases sharply by increasing the temperature. Therefore gradualy you must reduce input power as rod gets hotter.

  • @InsaneBurrito45 That is EXACTLY how an inca light works.

This would work just as well, if there was no oxygen to consume the carbon.

Thou tungsten is a bit more heat resistant and lasts longer =)

  • You need at least 5v and 700ma for this

  • you used a battery?

If so what did you use?

  • @alex054739 i believe i used a 12 volt transformer for power, but i think 12v lead acid battery will do just fine

  • @260830107 2 six wolts are safer. and also 1 six volt makes it brighter and last longer!

  • @260830107

what if you enclose it in a bottle filled with some inert gas (argon would be nise...but CO2 would work)?

This way the pencil lead wouldn't oxidise, it would just glow.

(Make sure there is no air going in the bootle, use a cork with two tight holes for the wires)

  • can i break a pencil in half and take the lead from that will it still work

  • @kingofbigkay Yes and no.

You CAN use it, but since that is about 1.00 mm of graphite you will need a lot more power than this 0.07mm graphite.

  • @Serostern a little 2 late scince fair 2 weeks ago

  • @kingofbigkay Sorry ^^

  • do this then divide by zero

  • OMCN (oh my chuck norris)

  • will it set off a smoke alarm?

  • @jewcool613 lol nah

  • the Lead is breaking bc the twisting effect of the clips.

You can also make ARC light with 2 pencils a High Voltage source and air gap.

move one pencil closer to the tip of the other until ARCing occurs then adjust for optimum arc. wear UV Glasses. or View thru THICK clear Glass.

  • @Art4Law yeah i tried it with a ZVS driven flyback tranformer, although its bright, it "consumes" the graphite stick pretty quickly

  • @Art4Law how about a welding mask? i am not sure if it is the same thing as uv glasses or if it is toataly diffrent

  • I did it i thinned out a pacer lead and did it on 6 AA rechargeable 2500MAH battery's. I got it red hot after about 1 sec, scared to do it longer though. Might cause a fire. I will do it in the shed later

  • @HEYLON96 Better do it outside.

  • thats how the basic lamp works, exept its more complicated. But thats how it works. Hooray.

  • if u just plug it into a wall, the graphite simply explodes and leveas a smell behind

    ITS STILL COOL THOUGH

  • @rcmotorsect BAD idea.

  • Cool.!

The basic Edison lamp is reborn again.

  • @RODALCO2007 yay!

  • nice

  • if you put a verry weak spring on the carbon rod you get the first projector ,just mate it to a copper plate base and its a carbon-arc lamp.good work and keep experimenting :)

  • Behold the amazing one time use light bulb! We offer this one time use light bulb for $0.99!! We'll even include a one time use warranty absolutely free! Order now while supplies last!

  • @lilaznmage15

    Lol! Hahaha!

  • It's graphite. But anyway, what size of battery did you use? And would any standard (cheap) size work?

And if not, what about a lantern battery? This looks pretty fun.

  • @JaiNobesIsARat i think lantern batteries might work, but its only 6 volts for 1 battery so u might need to get 2 and connect them in series to get 12 volts

  • 6666 views

  • The lead burns as it goes, that is why you put the lead in a vacuum tube, and prob you want to use tungsten metal too!

  • U can use a Car battery!

  • more volts less amps will help

  • umm. how many volts and watts ?

  • nice and whot is font in video ?

  • matrix

  • yeah how much power did you give to it?

  • didn't check with a amp meter, but i used a 4Ah lead-acid battery to do this

  • sweeeeeet!

  • wat battery used?

    AAA

    AA

    or other?

  • no he had to have used some transformer aa is not strong enough

  • @wowplayer6541011

    That's a good joke!

A battery is much too weak to power this!!!
