I love to hear shit like this. it shows all of us how we should work on our recording, and to think" this version sounds great. who would have thought to try to make it better. it sounds about perfect now. but they did make it better some how. but I love how raw this version is.
great version, like it more than the original too, one of my only problems with the Who was that it felt Roger was acting the lyrics sometimes and not fully feeling them, you know?
Let us say, this is a great demo and already a pearl of its own.
I agree with the master himself when he says: "The band later added a passion and a fire that really made it blossom from the sad song it appears to be here into the proud self expose it became on Who's Next."
I'm sure I'm the 10,000th person to ask this: Are there any whole albums/releases of Pete's demos? They're so pure & perfect, even as sketches. There's nothing like these raw ideas of what became anthems & Who staples.
that's the brilliance of Pete's songwriting, they could play their songs 100 different ways and they would sound awesome. Love this version, but I keep waiting for Kieth to show up at the end :)
i can't bee agree with you here. Roger is an way more skilled singer than Pete will ever be. I mean Pete sing beatiful and he can hit some very high notes, but there is way more kick and power in Roger's voice
Well Startlivin, we'll just have to agree to disagree! I just think there's something very cool and beautiful about Pete singing (as well as playing) solo all these songs that he wrote so obviously from the heart.

Beautiful lyrics..

As lovely as this is, the newer version with the orchestral backing absolutely kills me. Pete's brilliant either way though.

good point , but townshend should have had the balls to be more ruthless at times then in that case- personally i think roger sings this wonderfullly

So Spanish - all flamenco and no blues. Yet Townshend is always unmistakeably English.
