Different from what people think, Kefka had a reason, and it was the best reason of them all!
He stopped to philosophize about life and it's meaning, and realized that there's no meaning in life, and I would say that, apart from every human value that we create in life (god(s), reasons, rights and wrongs, etc.) there's no real "why to live?", so he had two choices:
1st - Continue living only to enjoy life.
2nd - If there's no meaning, I'll destroy everything!
I stopped playing at FF9. I love 4 and 6 and liked 7, 8, and 9.
Does this jeopardize my fanboy status? Hell I have no idea how to tell if you are one outside of a nebulous set of guidelines. Anyway this is my favorite boss out of all of them, and Black Mages made it even better then the original. Huzzah!
@Lordgaraj You should take a little step forward and try out FFX (and X-2, if you've got the patience for it). You won't regret it, the story is truly astonishing once you fully understand it ;) Even FFXI (though being online) was a great game prior to its "fall".
I haven't played FF6, but all I know just from his description Kefka is quite easily the most potentially evil character I've read about in the FF universe, who the hell said you've got to have a reason to be evil?! : )

I'm glad they put the right amount of emphasis on the slow passage of the 4th movement of Dancing Mad, which starts at 7:59. It has always been my favourite part of dancing mad.
People often say it has such a sad feeling to it, but personally, I think it contains a lot more happiness and hope that most people do. Retribution, damnation, salvation, recognition, sadness, happiness, and much more.
Such a stunning masterpiece. I don't feel like a sissy to say I shed tears listening to it. :')

When it comes to FF, Kefka is definitely the best villain. He didn't HAVE to do everything he did. He didn't have a reason. He only destroyed the ENTIRE world, AND he RESHAPED it, for almost NO reason at all. He is one of few FF villains who wished to become a god, and is the ONLY FF villain to literally become a GOD. A GOD. He's just one Nihilistic, psychopathic clown who destroyed the world and became the God of Magic because he was BORED
@Ramen86861 it's also interesting to note that in Dissidia 2, in the character bios, Kefka is the only character to be referenced as an "omnipotent god". Square themselves have said that Dissidia is canon (I have no idea how they pull that off, but they did state that) and they themselves made the bios, so it's safe to assume that Square themselves admit to Kefka being one of the most powerful. At least his endgame self.

How the heck is Kefka better than Kuja? Kuja actually DESTROYED the world which the main characters came from and Kefka only battered it around. Plus Flare star, Gonner. Which is better? I'm gonna say Flare star.
@CrazyN336 Well, technically, Kefka didn't simply blow up the world because that wasn't his plan. He ravaged the world because he wanted to see the people suffer in misery and dispair. If he had simply destroyed the planet, there would be nothing left for him to revel in.
As for Flare Star, Kefka also had several spells more powerful than Ultima, such as Forsaken, Fallen One, Hyperdrive and his own version of Trine.
I love Final Fantasy, I've played each game at least 5 times. I also love all the villains. Every villain had their own uniqueness that made me obsessed with them.
Kefka- because he is maniacal, destructive, cruel and insane!
Sephiroth- because of his messiah complex and stays calm and in control, while being an evil bastard at the same time!
Kuja (my favorite)- because of his narcissistic and sadistic, yet elegant personality.
@lonelyx20 Oddly enough, a single-scene remake of FF6 was one of the original tech demos for the Nintendo 64. You can see it on various YT videos. But yes, a full current-gen remake would be amazing.
@AaronSOLDIER IV came before V and had a much more emotionally destructive soundtrack. I'd take "The Dreadful Fight" theme song over The Decisive Battle from V any fucking day of the week. But that's my opinion. and Golbez controlled by Zemus sucks compared to after years Golbez. hes a lot tougher without the shadow dragon.
I live for 4:50 - 6:05. I really only listen to this song up to end of that part and then I turn it off. The amazing part is every time is just as good. Nobuo really is a musical genius.

Meh, dont think im a butthurt fanboy for liking Kefka more, its just... He is delightfully and disturbingly insane! His goofy antics are amusing and distracting. While his sombre and mad side that wishes nothing more than destruction is a sobering thought when you look at his silliness. It is a characteristic I tend to favor in a fictional character, because you never know what they will do next. And that is just one point to why I like Kefka the most.
Did anyone else notice the URL ends in FIE? Fie to all you Kefka haters. We all know that he was the least pretentious of all the Final Fantasy villains-- he was just straight up crazy and power hungry, he didn't get a sad from being used or any of that, he just went batshit and destroyed the world... how many villains actually achieve their goal of total world destruction? 1. Kefka - Actually succeeds in becoming a deity, has the highest registered death toll.
2. Kuja - Systematically killed countless over a series of years, destroys an entire planet and what's left of its lifeforms, kills the party as a last ditch effort of his battle.
3. Garland - The original villain. In a way, his very existance as Chaos marks his success, as everything that occurs in the story is a kind of cause-effect of his time manipulation

@Widarr Sephiroth basicly had the power needed to rule the world and to use meteor from the begining he just lacked the dark materia once he got it thats when he started charging meteor. Besides kefka didnt ruin the world the power he stole from all espers did without them he would hardly be strong enough to be a boss. but still both are awesome both in their way the fact that kefka did stuff was because he wasnt charging meteor but used the espers powers to destroy instead (he couldnt wait.)

@RedStringsOfFate You can't call boredom a motive because everybody has that motive for pretty much everything they ever do, thus, it's just far too easy to use boredom to explain someone's actions. Besides, no one has JUST boredom as a motive for anything either.

Hell put magic in this world and I'd totally go out on a destructive rampage JUST because it's entertaining. I'm not the one who said Kefka had no reason except boredom, however boredom in this case would be the motive. Things could get technical with his psychology, where he could act on natural impulses he can't control. That wouldn't exactly make him EVIL though.

Granted, boredom may have propelled you into action, but it's not the only reason that you do something. i.e. you're bored, so you decide to do something, but why did you decide to go on Youtube, watch, and comment on videos instead of say, play a computer game or watch T.V.? Boredom may have been the reason you started doing something but it didn't decide what.

Through Deceit, and Trickery, Kuja is able to cause a lot more damage, mentally, than any of the other Villains...

@CrazyN336 Well, technically, Kefka didn't simply blow up the world because that wasn't his plan. He ravaged the world because he wanted to see the people suffer in misery and dispair. If he had simply destroyed the planet, there would be nothing left for him to revel in.
As for Flare Star, Kefka also had several spells more powerful than Ultima, such as Forsaken, Fallen One, Hyperdrive and his own version of Trine.

I love Final Fantasy, I've played each game at least 5 times. I also love all the villains. Every villain had their own uniqueness that made me obsessed with them.
Kefka- because he is maniacal, destructive, cruel and insane!
Sephiroth- because of his messiah complex and stays calm and in control, while being an evil bastard at the same time!
Kuja (my favorite)- because of his narcissistic and sadistic, yet elegant personality.

@AaronSOLDIER IV came before V and had a much more emotionally destructive soundtrack. I'd take "The Dreadful Fight" theme song over The Decisive Battle from V any fucking day of the week. But that's my opinion. and Golbez controlled by Zemus sucks compared to after years Golbez. hes a lot tougher without the shadow dragon.

Meh, dont think im a butthurt fanboy for liking Kefka more, its just... He is delightfully and disturbingly insane! His goofy antics are amusing and distracting. While his sombre and mad side that wishes nothing more than destruction is a sobering thought when you look at his silliness. It is a characteristic I tend to favor in a fictional character, because you never know what they will do next. And that is just one point to why I like Kefka the most.

We all know that he was the least pretentious of all the Final Fantasy villains-- he was just straight up crazy and power hungry, he didn't get a sad from being used or any of that, he just went batshit and destroyed the world... how many villains actually achieve their goal of total world destruction? Top three FF villains, in order of success rates:
1. Kefka - Actually succeeds in becoming a deity, has the highest registered death toll.
2. Kuja - Systematically killed countless over a series of years, destroys an entire planet and what's left of its lifeforms, kills the party as a last ditch effort of his battle.
3. Garland - The original villain. In a way, his very existance as Chaos marks his success, as everything that occurs in the story is a kind of cause-effect of his time manipulation

@Widarr Sephiroth basicly had the power needed to rule the world and to use meteor from the begining he just lacked the dark materia once he got it thats when he started charging meteor. Besides kefka didnt ruin the world the power he stole from all espers did without them he would hardly be strong enough to be a boss. but still both are awesome both in their way the fact that kefka did stuff was because he wasnt charging meteor but used the espers powers to destroy instead (he couldnt wait.)
