NES Games- Fire Emblem (Part 1)

i want to learn Japanese just so i can play the first fire emblem games

Is this game still playable ? I may get into it for a quick run through the series maybe. (As an RPG fan I wouldn't want to miss out on the classics you know?)

Talking mainly about NES RPG titles for now. I didn't do secret of mana yet, nor breath of fire. Breath of fire 4 was so bad that I didnt want to do any of the other games. :(

So what about Fire Emblem? Good games? I can handle NES graphics if the game is creative. I enjoyed the 3 NES final fantasys :)

@Dominickbmusic Each Fire Emblem game is excellent, but I personally I would never recommend starting with FE1 or FE2 because they're ridiculously archaic. The third game and onward really streamlined the series and I would say the likes of FE7 would be best to play first before ever dealing with the first two.

If you enjoyed the first few Final Fantasy games given how dated they are, odds are you'd probably enjoy the first two FE games too anyway.

ZSNES wouldn't run this software, as it isn't designed to emulate those kinds of software.

Hey, kinda not the person you are addressing, but Shadow Dragon may not be such a great game. It is a bit of a disappointment to those of us who have played Monshou no Nazo, anyways. I would take Monshou no Nazo into consideration via super nintendo emulator and English Translation Patch. Just so you know, Monshou no Nazo is two games in one. Shadow Dragon is only a remake of the first one. Hence, the disappointment.

Let's go back to the beginning. This game (Dark Dragons and the Blade of Light) was the first of the Fire Emblem series. The third game (Mystery of the Emblem) was a remake of the first game (Dark Dragons...) plus a sequel. The remake and the sequel were divided into two different parts or "books". The second book (i.e. the sequel) takes place six years after the first where an interesting plot twist (involving betrayal) occurs.

This was a pretty good game! In fact, this was released for the VC in Japan. I do wish that this was translated and released for the VC elsewhere! as well as 3 and 2 cause they're all the same game! You know my friend hated it for some reason I don't know why but I still think it's a great game.

I also think so. My fav. lords (in that order) are Ephraim, Sigurd and Marth. But I like all lords from FE in general. They are my personal protegés, and later become my personal and favorite pwnage units in the game...  Specially Ephraim once he changes classes and he gets the Siegmund...

Taking a good look at this, I must say. Shadow Dragon was a GREAT enhancement. But they SURE did the characters down EXACT. Caeda (Peg. Knight) and Jagen (Paladin, old dude with spikes) look like a perfected version. I beat Shadow Dragon in 3 days (...due to Action Replay DS ;)

Because character designs were different back then.

Royals (Like Marth and Shida/Sheeda) wore more Greco-Roman clothing, like short togas and heavilly-strapped sandals.

Mages also wore Chinese-like garments.

These motifs went on till about FE3m where designs became more like what they are today.

It's a remake, but not entirely; there are excised chapters and other parts are re-arranged. Some characters (like Jake, Wrys, and Beck) don't come back either.

Not really. Jeigans are usually referred to as characters who start the game with you prepromoted and with good base stats but end up having horrible stat growths and often steals exp. Marcus is a prime example of this.
