actually, if you let the Mario star hop into the middle of the level (the chomp rock area where it turns back) and run like HELL, you can activate those switches, as there are more stars in the area. useless stuff, but still.

swoopers aren't in yoshi's they were replaced with fangs

to win the 1 up baloon, turn yoshi in mole and go for left (yes in the hole) you hear coins sound coninue and you get the baloon but you will lose the key.

When I first played New Super Mario Bros. Wii, I hadn't played Pokemon and hadn't known much about Pokemon, but when I saw those Swoopers, I was thinking "Are those bats from Pokemon?" I totally agree, slim!

Those bats from NSMBW looked more like Golbats to me, same with the smaller bats in DKCR.

When you see those red arrows after hitting the switch, they always point to either hidden "pipes" or hidden item clouds.

In this case, it was pointing to an item cloud hidden in the dirt.

About that block at the end, I think that becomes solid if you're Super Baby Mario. If you let the first star keep bouncing to the left until the part where the Chomp Rock appears, you should be able to be Super Baby Mario all the way to the end of the level. I think the block just gives you coins when you hit it, though.

Super Mario Wiki tells me that these bats are called Fangs. Fangs also appear in Super Princess Peach and Yoshi's Island DS.

And then the Swoopers are pretty much the bats in all of the other games.

You use the Mole Tank. Instead of digging through the dirt, you head left, into the pit, and head right, clinging to the bottom off-screen, then you come up where the 1up is.
