This morning, I spotted a bear while making coffee. It was probably only five or six yards away. I didn't move. I said a silent prayer to whatever gods would listen. The bear lumbered over and sniffed at me - I could smell the rank odor coming off its fur in waves. I knew my time had come. Miraculously, though, it let me live. It just took my coffee and retreated back into the darkness....
