Please put "Come Si Bella" on. It is actually the A side of the single. I got a good copy on Ebay a few years ago. The songs are actually very good plus, just damage to the inner label(which someone repaired).
Also this is back in the days before so called consultants told stations what to play. Payola is still present today but the poor dj has been removed from the equation and it is now the consultants that reap the wealth from the record companies. They probably will have me murdered for saying this but it's true.
CORONET? Both sides of this "45" were also featured on several of Pickwick's "Design" albums in the mid-'60s {"Hullabaloo a-Go-Go", 1965, was one of them}.
In Philadelphia, we have the "Geater" (Jerry Blavat). After his Bandstand days, he D-Jayed at WCAM in Camden, NJ (he today broadcasts on 92.1 FM in Vineland, NJ and 88.5 FM in Philly) and he would play music without the prohibition of a playlist typed up by a station program director. Because of the "Payola" scandal (which involved Dick Clark), songs like this would have never seen the light of day today.
I had this on an album called "Shindig" from the early 60s. It also featured Jimmy Clanton "Just a dream" among other really cool and quite rare songs.
How can a record only be a hit in one State? Was it because of local AM Radio stations in those days? Did they have any other pre-4 Seasons songs that only did well
That actually used to happen a lot back in the day. There actually were a lot of radio stations and record labels owned by regular people. Over the years survival of the fittest made most radio stations and successful record labels property of larger corporate entities. Not like it used to be
@JohnnyGNV In the 50s it was very common to have regional hits. The last one that I'm aware of was in 1970. It was a single off Boz Scagg's first album, which was a fairly big seller only in San Diego. I grew up in the Los Angeles area, and I remember Art Laboe playing lots of songs, by local artists, that never made it big. The only artist, that I can remember, was Little Julian Herrera, but there were a lot more.
often included on those budget LP's that screamed "4 Seasons" on the album cover but featured these two early cuts when they weren't quite known as the Four Seasons yet?
I appreciate that. I do have a tendency to focus on tracking down oddities. Rarety doesn't always do it for me. Odd does, whether it's in musical content or otherwise.
This is the song that somehow always showed up on those Budget LP packages that boasted "The 4 Seasons" but would only have 2 songs by them, "Coma Si Bella" and this one. Obviously, the tracks were bought out by the short-lived Cindy Record Label.
The A-side of this record was a hit in the greater Newark metro area. That's the only part of the country where the record sold which is a big reason for it's rarety. I've seen this pop up on albums on the Guest Star and Coronet labels, both owned by Synthetic Plastics in Newark, NJ. When the Four Seasons got popular Synthetic Plastics decided to release this as a "new" Four Seasons song. Most likely they used this illegally. The Cindy 45 was released a few years before the albums
Cindy used two label schemes. They had a block print similar to early End issues used on earlier releases. The one above was used for later issues and 2nd presses of earlier issues. I'm only aware of 5 Cindy releases.. The Dynamics, Isley Bros, Orlandos, Three Vales and Frankie Valle and The romans.

That was from either '59 or '60, sometime before he joined the Four Seasons in '61.

Come Si Bella is the flipside of this. Both sides were used on at least two Coronet "budget" albums

I may add one more variation, sometimes the "i" and "y" were not colored red but, left back.
