  • Yes there's a sign on the door, but once the doors open you can't see the sign. Bad design. If you're new to the city and have never used the system but need to you're screwed. If you expect the bus drivers to talk to you in a coherent fashion good luck on that one.

  • everyone miss the whole point its not about if it seems not as great as other crimes its the fact that they are ripping off the city and wasting tax money or abusing a system its not right still even if it small you guys are acting like there are not already news on Violent crimes drugs ETC you know its not right and you know there is a fine for.

  • What if they have a fastpass or a transfer?

  • @michellestmarie ya lol thought the same thing....

  • ha ha fare inspecter suck, they don't even try to run after the guy !!!!!!

  • It's a shame we waste police resources on this petty shit. These officers are a disgrace to real police officers who protect the public from criminals... violent criminals. Police officers are supposed to protect and serve the people, not protect and serve some company's profits by taking money from mostly poor people. That's is the exact opposite of what a good police officer should do.

  • @freakylocz14 @freakylocz14 San Francisco Fare inspectors are not sworn police officers.....

  • @TVman1981 Only sworn police officers can make arrests and writing a citation is the equivalent of making an arrest for an infraction offense. I know VTA fare inspectors here in San Jose are sworn officers.

  • @TVman1981 so whats the reason for you to pay if they arnt police officers, i wouldnt speak to them, (well im from the UK) but unless if its a proper police officer you dont have to answer thier questions or even answer them if they ask to see your ticket

  • @freakylocz14 No a good police officer serves the law with blind justice thats all and you dont even know the different type of cops security and what this guy said dare inspectors which i am assuming is the same as the guy on the train who checks to see if every one pays their fair how is that right if they get to ride for free and everyone else paid? why should they get over while others payed the Tool fairly what about what a good citizen should do?

  • @opp861 That's all fine and well if we didn't have only x amount of officers and x amount of money to spend on public safety. Our cities have violent criminals and we're focusing on this petty shit?

  • @freakylocz14 First-off, as TVman said, fare inspectors aren't police officers. They issue tickets to "public transport" abusers and violaters. They are state/city paid employees and MUNI is under control by the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), a semi-independent, city run agency, NOT "some company" or big corporation as you imply. Breaking the law is breaking the law, regarless if it is something like fare evading or something more severe, like robbery.

  • @cbond99 I've seen that they are unarmed. Simply waltz by and ignore them.

  • your little videos are stupid.. "people behaving badly." whatever man there is so much more shit going down in our city. Who cares if people get on through the back. I saw a lady get on throught the front and just go to back a started to smoke crack out of a pipe on the bus.... what seems worse?

  • These muni "cops" are a JOKE. Bus drivers stop the buses right in the middle of a route to get food or go to the bathroom. So what is a person supposed to do? You put the money in and no driver is there to hand you a ticket - then you get fined for not having a transfer? THAT IS CRIMINAL

  • IN Chinatown... pretty much every1 has a ticket. I know as a Chinatown visitor. One time, 10 fare inspectors came in at the end of the tunnel on STockton. NONE of our FULL bus got pulled out except 2 young teenagers. NONE of the asian old grandma and grandpa ppl on a 60' articulated bus with packed standees got pulled.

  • Not to mention the fines for fare evasion will be increased to supplement the loss of funds due to passengers cheating on their fares. Muni is going to lose needed funds for their service, unless they get tough on fare cheaters. Fare inspectors are the only weapon that Muni has, other than installing police officers on the bus to check on bus passengers using the bus for transportation. Muni must also invest on effective security system that will alert the driver of fare cheaters.

  • I have read that the MUNI fare is going to increase, as will CalTrain fare.

  • If you have a fast pass or transfer boarding on the back is not only allowed but ENCOURAGED by MUNI. They have signs up that say that at most bus stops.

  • what about people who litter and spill drinks, food and deface muni interiors with graffitis and other noticeable markings in the bus?

  • what about the muni signs at stops that say you can board through the back if you have proof of payment? fuck muni

  • I agree!

They complain they loose money but the drivers open the doors even when there is no one to get off . They encourage people to board though the back. There fuking corrupt

  • WELL SAID. Corrupt is the perfect word for Muni.

  • Well said. Muni is criminal.

  • munimannersdotcom

  • SO FUCKING WHAT?! If you have problem with people boarding buses, then why don't you just tell them to their face? Don't be little bitch with a camera, go behind their backs posting on youtube. FUCK YOU ASSHOLE!

  • So what? People have *always* boarded through the rear. Some years it's encouraged, some years it's forbidden. And since almost everyone in Chinatown has a fast pass, it's likely that the video on Stockton showed *no* fare evaders, just prepaid customers helping to speed things along.

  • According to the reporter (and the signs on the doors) it is fare evasion--or at least a violation of the law--if you get on through the rear door, even if you have a valid ticket.

  • If someone has already paid his fare, labeling him a fare evader is dishonest--and coming from a "reporter," it's despicable. A reporter shouldn't use doublespeak to make his point. But I agree that Muni needs to look for ways to encourage everyone to respect fares. Seattle has a creative solution to speed up the crowd: they let people on and off freely on all doors downtown, but you have to pay at the front on your way off an outbound bus. SF also needs to find what makes sense for its crowds.

  • Portland has something similar. Fareless Square is the downtown area, where all rides are free. However, I believe if you board outside of downtown, you must pay when you board, whether you are on a bus that's heading toward downtown, away from downtown, or goes crosstown (i.e., bypasses downtown altogether). The same goes for MAX, Portland's light-rail counterpart to San Francisco's Muni Metro.

  • you're an absolute idiot. POrtland is not San Francisco. ON the 38 Geary you get 100 ppl jammed on EVERY BUS that comes EVERY 5 min EVERY single day at rush hour. im not kidding. How to expect that to work. The bus is traveling INTO downtown.... oh sure.. every1's gonna obey and go to the driver to pay...

  • AznPwnageFTW: Before you call someone an idiot, you might want to check your own spelling and capitalization.

Even if a bus has 100 people on it, I doubt that they all get on at the same stop. The driver should be able to collect fares for 10-15 people (the most likely to get on at once) without too much difficulty.

  • amusing... you have no idea. 3-4 stops is is all it takes to fill up 100 ppl. Not kidding. Often.. the 4th stop is skipped becuase of overcrowding. 10-15.. you wish. 10-15 at every back door rofl.

  • @decline2state I'd rather go into an empty bus than being squished like a smashed up sardine in a can. And people ALWAYS board through the rear of the bus and NOT the front which makes me want to point an accusing finger at them. I always purchase a fast pass to board at the front of the bus but why do idiots continue to board the REAR of the bus? And every time I disembark the rear of the bus, why do these rude impatient crowd gang in to board the REAR of the bus? This makes me sick.

  • lmao good luck catchin em all das sf for ya

  • Who are those lazy people near the end of the video, just standing there and issuing tickets, they're just like cops, sitting around and trying to meet their quotas. Muni is responsible for all of this, not their riders.

  • Next time SF MUNI orders new buses, the rear door should be absent.

  • Makes asians look bad. im asian.

  • It is damn near impossible to get a seat on the 30 or 45 in chinatown because of those people who get on through the rear doors. Getting off is a cinch though if you are 6'3. Just shove through them all as if they don't exist! Their insults don't hurt my feelings at all because they are never in English=)

  • LOL the drivers don't do anything?

bus drivers in toronto are so anal about back door fare evaders. they won't move the bus until you come up and pay and everyone on the bus ends up turning against that person...so nobody even bothers cheating...maybe crackheads...

  • Maybe back doors shouldn't be used anymore. Make everyone get on and off through the front. Muni will gain more money that way.

  • "Maybe back doors shouldn't be used anymore. Make everyone get on and off through the front. Muni will gain more money that way."

Maybe, but then it would take forever for everyone to get on and off through the front door. That would also result in lost time, lost revenue, etc. I don't know if it would be less of a loss than putting up with fare evasion is, however.

  • That's why I can never get a seat when I board a bus in Chinatown...those buggers take all the seats in the back as they swarm the bus using the middle and back doors. I believe those people are mostly likely mainland Chinese. I even have trouble getting off the bus using the backdoors and have to yell, "hey, I am trying to get off here!" and squeeze through those a river of those...humans just to get off!

  • The fine for POP fare evasion is up to $500, not $100, according to MUNI's website

  • The actual ticket is 100 dollars, but with court fee's and additional fines the fine increases to about 500...

  • It wasn't just 10 Asians!!! Watch the WHOLE video!!! There's also other races.

  • Actually Juanjune is correct their were many races in this segment. However the video was shot in Chinatown.

  • 10 ASIANS
