True, but when you melt polystyrene with an organic solvent (such as gasoline or acetone), it doesn't dissolve completely. You're left with residue - dangerous fumes, and never mind if the GIFT is made from petro-plastics as well. No melty presents! :(
@TaoOfPooh26 LOL! If I got a styrofoam gift after all that work, I'd be just as mad whether it melted or not. ;)
Actually, it was more fun using plain old spray paint back in high school. We tried to paint a styro sheet once, and it didn't work well, but it sure was pretty!
@TaoOfPooh26 Damn. youtube deleted my comment. Saying that I'd be just as mad whether or not it melted my present, after all that work, if it turned out to be a styro-gift. :)
Also that spray paint seems to etch styros pretty well: found that out while ruining a high school project. :)
Is the gift the box it goes in, or the actual present? If you think it's the BOX, then yes, I wrapped the inside. If the gift is the actual item being given, then everything enclosing it is part of the "wrapping." Can you "wrap" your head around that?
Couldn't. We eloped. Went straight from "no ring" to "wedding ring."
But that'd be a bad way to wrap an engagement ring. Don't want to get them all irritated dealing with devious gift-wrapping before you ask them to marry you. :)
how many bottles did you use?? also i started and used 2 bottles already and i have just gotten a little more than the bottom of the box filled.... can i come back the day after and get the same results? thanks
Hmm. I used "Great Stuff" brand spray foam, and only used 1 can for both boxes - but I also used some foam peanuts. You should only need 1-2 cans for most boxes. You may need to make sure it's expanding spray foam. The more it expands, the less you have to use.
If you live with your parents (don't know how old you are), either have one involved or do it outside - as I think it'd be impossible to get that gunk out of carpet. Hasn't happened to me yet, thankfully.
I started doing crazy experiments in middle school, so nothing wrong with starting young. Just make sure to not blow any of yer digits off, since you can buy better things to 'splode if you can still work a job.
omg, i know that glue stuff, some kids pranked my high school with it. they filled all the locks in our school, so the teachers couldnt unlock the doors. unfortunately, some doors were able to get open so that school would resume as usual, but thats not the point. the point is that this "prank" cost $20k in damages, 245 locks replaced at $50 each, not to mention other expenses. so, use that crap with cation, you may be causing more trouble then you really think
alrighty... it scares me to no end that there is more than one person that shares my sense of humor. Makes me happy i dont have kids. Love the vids tho
How come? Kids = prank targets. At least until they figure out how to prank you back. Then it gets REALLY interesting. My 14 year old stepdaughter has a lot to learn, but she's coming along.
Hahahaha...I so want to do that now. Sadly, my "unsuspecting victims" have access to pointy objects in the form of #2 pencils, and blunt objects in the form of school books. >.> Darn.
I once recieved $50.00 gift. It was 30 one dollar bills, rolled into very small balls, and put inside a box of green colored peanuts. The box was then covered with 3 layers of duct tape. In between each layer of duct tape was a roll of quarters stuck individually to the tape. It took about three hours to undo everything. I'm really glad they hadn't seen this.
muhahaha man you are just evil!! :) and man i gotten use that next Xmas :D muhahahaha...but ther is 1 thing missing form your video wicht i miss...the FIRE!!! and metal!!
i done this 2 christmas-s a go. i gave her a DVD. >:D
So it all turned out well. took her 1hour and 30 minutes to open- WITH an eletrical knife :)
She wasnt impressed.

If I recall *MY* chemistry well, a small atomizer of regular unleaded might make the UNwrapping quite a bit easier. :D

djoli101 3 years ago
You'd have a wet, soggy gift that turns into an extremely heavy, rock-enclosed gift that would most likely require power tools to remove.
I wouldn't do it but, let me know how that works for you.

A) Rubber gloves are a very good idea.
B) Any hardware store sells spray foam.

Good point.
Spray foam: 5 dollars
Cardboard box: 50 cents
Good gift: X dollars
Creating a prank that has maximum joke/embarrassment impact yet costs the taxpayers nothing? Priceless.
