  • He's sold himself out. Nice little house though. Just remember to make do even with a kid like the gypsies used to. I saw a couple with a child living in a bus the same size as his tiny house and the woman loved it. It's all up to the women about how small/big they wan't to go. Most guy's can live in a camper/small shack real easy and it doesn't bother them.

  • less is more

  • I live in Southern California... I don't understand where one would park this for the long term living (really, even short-term) without buying incredibly expensive land. Any ideas?

  • @veganmochi You know, he is actually living on land where he has a 500 square foot home. That is because had a baby.

  • I'm not condeming this movement and i think it would help the environment if people who would be satisfied with this sort of living space could do it, but it wouldn't be practical for everyone. I myself could probably live in a normal size one room one bath home that had a small living room and kitchen or one where the kitchen and living room are all one space. Any place I live has to have a safe place to go in case of a tornado. I guess I'm a bit paranoid, and I like a little room to breath.

  • This is a fine movement for single people however some issues I would have would be tornado's, unless you can have one on the ground with a small finished basement or root celler. This wouldn't be practical for people who live in the places that get hit by tornado's alot. People who get clastraphobic and or are scared of heights probably couldn't live in one of these spaces or they would have to modify it to a slightly bigger yet still small and economical home. cnt.

  • Awesome ! Way to go Jay.

  • where does the water come from??

i noticed he has gas/propane for electricity and heat

  • still qualifies u dude ! Greetings from Greece !

  • in short what he is sayin, he will be single forever

  • @fuckyoubitch5495 well, idk, this seams like its ok for 2 people...i mean it has a big bed and he said he is maried and has a baby so maybe it isnt that bad for a 3 person family untill the sun outgrowns the crib, lol.

  • @fuckyoubitch5495 He's married, actually. :P

  • Give it another year or two and the goverment will make sure you can't do this anymore unless they regulate it and profit from it. The more money you're able to save, the more they want to take if from you. They would love to see everyone living in boxes like this so they can tax the crap out of us. Before ya know it, they might even give us cardboard boxes to live in with trash bags to keep the rain out. Gotta love them Progressives!

  • i cant wait until i build mine :) ill trade you a 30+ year mortgage, headaches, debt etc and raise u a simple life with more free time and more of your hard earn money going in your pocket :) o how we've been decieved :( lol live in one of these for a couple of year and with all the money u would have saved you can pay of your car in full buy a cozy house cash!! and take that dream vacation :) ohh the possibilities are endless...

  • @1UnstableMind but, even if you pay cash for a cozy house still you got taxes to pay.. tax is more for paid off houses. unfortunately our government does not like us having a paid off house. This is a conspiracy to enslave us and tie us forever to the endless payments of depth and huge interest. make the blood sucking bank leach blood out of us. Why would not the government increase tax if our houses are paid off? but if we are paying interest then we get to reduce tax a little. !?!?

  • Oh My God....Jay , after Henry David Thoreau you are my hero!!! I totally support all that you stand for in simplistic living. My husband and three children live in a 1200 square foot row house with just enough land in the front for the kids to play and for a small garden. At first I felt like we were a bit cramped, but then it dawned on me that we have all the space we need. I have learned to be content with what I have and this has made all the difference.

  • Nice work Jay

  • I suspect Jay's future wife must have had a Frigidaire shipping carton as her previous dwelling. "Close the flap, it's starting to rain!"

  • would a photo-voltaic roof supply all the energy required for a house this size?

  • @c0smicbyte well, it depends on how much you use, if you just leave the lights on then it will only mostly cover it, if your the kinda guy who turns off the lights when they arent needed then its plenty, but having electric hookup is still useful, would suck doing work on your laptop and the solar panels alone can't handle the lights and laptop and end up having to stop and wait an hour for it to recharge.

  • Jay wowowow I have never seen this !

  • These things are ugly, why not build something cool looking, like out of a Dwell magazine? They all look the same.....very un-interesting......

  • @drummond72 Please dont criticize these cottage style homes. True modern is open minded. Dwell is more than a style. It is a concept with many principles, and I bet they have features projects like these. They have featured traditional looking homes. They have featured small too.

My tiny 460 square foot home is modern, because I too like modern more than traditional. but I would not criticize these because Mr. Shafer is helping open people's minds to the not so big house.

  • lol, my room is bigger than his hole house, I want one though, I will give up my room and walk in closet in an instant for one of these houses.

  • This is nice. :) I love this video. I am designing my very own right now.

Mine will be 12x20, which is pretty large. Plus a loft bedroom. I am so excited to be moving in!

I'll have videos up once the building/moving in starts. :)

  • When I designed and built my small house, passersby would ask if it was the shed and the house was going someplace else on the lot - and it's 1400 square feet! But the footprint is less than 700, so it does appear small - and it absolutely large enough for a young family of four to live very comfortably.
