Tyler Perry movies break the box office consistently and Leanardo Di Caprio's films usually do not but Di Caprio is still often nominated. It has nothing to do with getting the people to come out and watch, and more to do with the Oscar panel not being ethnically diluted enough to even know of a good black drama that's out.
I think the Oscars need to change their panel to more diverse viewers; because if you think about it white film makers make their movies unrelated to the black, hispanic, asian, etc. communities and they're still rewarded for their work, so why should those minority artists in film have to relate their videos to a white audience in order to be rewarded for their good work.
Tyler Perry has the money to pay big actors, but his writing and directing skills are lacking. An actor like Denzel Washington definitely reads his scripts before jumping into a role so Tyler would have to step it up to pull him into a project. I don't think black directors need to change their movies for the Oscars.

They said Farah Faucett was primarily a tv star so a proper memorial for her would be on the Emmy Awards. Michael was in the tribute because he was Oscar-nominated for the song "Ben" plus the video Thriller was given a special award by the Oscars in 2009.

Commenting on the issue that Tyler Perry should use different actors, I feel like I agree to a certain extent, but Makael as a black man trying to work in the film industry yourself, I feel that you should consider the fact that roles for black people are scarce, so why wouldn't Tyler Perry back that community, not only is it beneficial for him but it is also beneficial for young actors like yourself.
I hate to disagree. TP movies are seen by a broader audiences. The Family That Prays was big cause they had a white cast also. Spike has fallen off some but I love his last film "Miracle at St. Anna" that should have won an Oscar. Why do we have to become serious to win an Oscar when Meryl Streep was nominated for Devil Wears Prada and Julia and Julie which aren't all that serious.
But the acting was and the flow of the action in that movie was way better than all TP movies. Spike didnt get nominated because it was said that alot of the stuff he but in the movie was not true to what really happened.

The actors in Tyler Perry's movies are not the problem, his story lines are. When the Color Purple came out, which was an all black cast, it did well. Boys in the hood did well. Malcolm X did well. I disagree with the statement that black actors and directors need to make their movies more wide ranging. How many movies that are romantic comedy don't have a single black person in them. There are several white films that don't think twice about adding black actors being included that do get included in the Oscars. Its a two way street. Hollywood picks 1 black film a year to highlight at the Oscars. Tyler won't get love because he shows positive black people.

the reason they may have done the chicken scene is that they were running clips for best adapted screenplay and when you read the script the most powerful parts have long parts that dont explain the scene. they did the same to the movie In The Loop
The plays are better because you get the meat of the story. The movie is like a message wrapped in chocolate but the audience can easily lick off the chocolate and forget the moral. In the plays, the message gets you in the gut!
The few Black people in Hollywood can't cater to every damn body....they can't do everything. When they do positive, albeit predicatable movies you want something different. i watch the oscars every year since 2002 but i missed this year =[ i'm glad Monique & Jeff Bridges won... Monique's performance looked heartfelt. I got emotional only like 2 or 3 times during the oscars over the years lol. I was really surprised Avatar didn't win much awards b/c it had all that hype.
I thought the best and most unpredictable Tyler Perry movie was the Family That Preys with Why Did I Get Married coming in 2nd. I saw the Secret Life of Bees...on TV lol and it was just ok to me.

No REAL actor/actress with any credibility would want to work with Tyler Perry because his writing and directing is terrible. Its all so cheesy, and mediocre. The acting sucks, the plots suck, the settings suck, it's all horrible.

They said Farah Faucett was primarily a tv star so a proper memorial for her would be on the Emmy Awards. Michael was in the tribute because he was Oscar-nominated for the song "Ben" plus the video Thriller was given a special award by the Oscars in 2009.

i don t think Tyler Perry needs to conform to mainstream media. He continues to make major movies and does well at the box office. and If he doesn't use actors like Sana, Taraji and all the other actors that he uses when else will you see them? The sure aren't being offered any roles in "white movies". If anything you should be giving advice to the mainstream media, because in spite of Tyler's success and accomplishments he is not being recognized.

I hate to disagree. TP movies are seen by a broader audiences. The Family That Prays was big cause they had a white cast also. Spike has fallen off some but I love his last film "Miracle at St. Anna" that should have won an Oscar. Why do we have to become serious to win an Oscar when Meryl Streep was nominated for Devil Wears Prada and Julia and Julie which aren't all that serious.

The actors in Tyler Perry's movies are not the problem, his story lines are. When the Color Purple came out, which was an all black cast, it did well. Boys in the hood did well. Malcolm X did well. Tyler Perry's movies are little to stereotypical. Why did I get married was good, but that Family reunion and Medea movie was terrible.

I disagree with the statement that black actors and directors need to make their movies more wide ranging. How many movies that are romantic comedy don't have a single black person in them. There are several white films that don't think twice about adding black actors being included that do get included in the Oscars. Its a two way street. Hollywood picks 1 black film a year to highlight at the Oscars. Tyler won't get love because he shows positive black people.

I agree with you guys 110% on Tyler Perry's movies being predictable. Correct me if I'm wrong but in every movie, there's always a women who's been abused or hurt or depressed and in the ends she falls in love with a guy and gets married. Examples: Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Madea's Family Reunion, Madea Goes to Jail, Why Did I Get Married, I Can Do Bad All By Myself, Daddy's Little Girls (it's the other way around). The only movie that wasn't like that was The Family That Preys

First, of all guys you have to rent or buy to The Hurt Locker on DVD. It really was a great movie and opened my eyes. Also, I don't think Tyler Peryy should have to change for anyone. If keeps making movies with great scripts and great actors then it will be recognized. Its funny becuz you don't hear people telling White directors to do more movies for the black audiences. Ya'll know full well Tyler cannot afford Will or Denzel. His succss comes from the fact that he has low production cost bablanced with high box office returns. His movies can be predictable, but hell so is most of Hollywood. Michael Bay=explosions M.Night Shaymalan= random twist ending. There are a lot of white films that cater to just white folks and there is no problem with them getting distributed.

IMO the Oscar can only help a person's career. If an actor's career 'crumbles' after that, its not the achievement of the award thats to blame. I believe it relates to poor film choice etc.

I have to say that i was more interested in tbe Oscars this year than i have in years. Most of that interest was in Sandra Bullock though.
I also agree with Makael on the "Telephone" music video, the more they push it back the less interested i am in it. I've also noticed how the song isn't really charting so i wonder if an incredible music video will help.

I almost cried when Gabby started crying Oprah was speaking about her. I wanted her to win but I was glad that Sandra Bullock win though. Congrats to Monique for winning but I don't think Monique the person should've won. For acting yes but I've seen her get interviewed at press conference and ppl I know who have heard exp. with her say she has a nasty attitude. I'm just saying someone in her position should have a better attitude toward things.

I can tell you now that Tyler Perry is pro black, and made his millions off of black people alone, So he knows were his base is. You can see it in his demeanor, that he does not give a shyt if white America approves or awards him or not. Because he knows were is base is and he never abuses his own ppl, When he makes a movie alone, it always shows the strengths of black ppl and not only the sickness, that Oprah tends to do over and over again.

MAKAEL, you sound like an ass kissing coon, who thinks that black ppl talents and efforts have to always be accepted and validated by white ppl. You think our success is not success until it reaches and is approved by white America, There are about 60 million black ppl in America, and Tyler perrry makes well over that, so he has reached his audience. When we are great athletes I guess were not great until we get awarded by white amerkkk.
