I love the commentary introducing this video. I sang this at age 17 with my best friend (like Elvis/Celine) in a variety show (on youtube) and he was adamant we do the song...and after one practice, I knew why. It's beautiful. We didn't have much practice but didn't only sing it, we FELT if from our hearts. Mike is a huge Elvis fan and I a big one and now I know the background of the song so, hey, thank you!

I still remember seeing him perform this on his 68 tv special and it completely blew me away. No one ever has or ever will sing with the kind of passion Elvis sang with and this song just goes right through your body and you feel every word he's saying. The greatest talent of all time, in my opinion. He deserved the title, The King. He will always be missed. BTW, I saw him in concert on New Years Eve in 1975.....a memory I will always cherish.

The story of the comeback - training like a boxer, getting a tan (he wasn't big on suntans), and reclaiming his star after the British Invasion with absolutely and undeniable success - is one of my favorite music stories. When he took the stage trim, tight and in leather, that was it - Elvis was back in a big way. On this one, "out there in the darrrk... there's a beckoning candle" always shivers my spine. Wow.

Personally, I find this to be the best Elvis' song. And he sang it with such a passion. Just observe his face expression at 2:23. That cannot be acted. I always get goosebumps when I see that. Absolutely priceless!
