Because i grew up in such a great area, territory-wise, (Tulsa, OK-home of Mid-South, also home to UWF TV tapings, which were almost always incredible), Mid-Southern Wrestling (Memphis, CWA, USWA, et al) was unavailable to me, except for what i read in the mags, and heard from my buddy.
He was from Memphis, went back fairly often, and one time he brought back a videotape of a Saturday morning TV show. It was smack in the middle of the amazing Lawler vs Rich & Idol feud. Awesome stuff.
This was what Pro Wrestling was all about. The Memphis area ranks right up there with Georgia,Florida, and Mid-Atlantic Wrestling. To bad Vince McMahon ruined everything.
Bro, wrestling was never real. But back then, it was realilstic. They looked like they were really trying to kill each other. I grew up in Lex so saw lawyer and the mid-south wrestling a lot a "Idol Arena" or Rupp Arena. I can't even watch this crap Vince calls wrestling today. I too miss the territory wrestling. It kept things interesting and you saw talent coming and going. Wrestling died for me when Vince bought WCW.
Vince Mcmahon cant even do a tag team video release right,he left out the Samoans,Sonny King and Chief Jay Strongbow and ,barion sicluna and King Curtis,You suck Vince
Your indeed right the days of the wrestlers going into other territories and wrestling, then going into others was the greatest.Championship Wrestling from Florida was the best
Florida may well have been the best-incredible lineup of workers, plus the great Gordon Solie. I'm slanted towards the Mid-South, since I grew up and went to the matches weekly in Tulsa. But no one was more entertaining than the Mid-Southern, Lawler's promotion. Great great booking. You just had to be able to stomach Lawler beating everyone-no prob for me, he was an awesome worker, great on the mike. BTW, the above 3 regions had the 3 best announcers ever:Solie, Jim Ross, and Lance Russell
@miamiderek1 Amen to that one: I'm from Memphis, grew up watching it on Channel 5 and lemme tell you, The city of Memphis stood still from 11:00-12:30 while Memphis wrestling was on. The highest rated show in Memphis. They got ratings that only WWE and TNA can dream of. And oh yea, the holy trinity of wrestling announcers ARE indeed Gordon Solie, Jim Ross, and Lance Russell
Don't you miss that territorial wrestling. I mean whether it was Ric Flair dazzling fans on the east coast, the Von Erichs playing the role of hearthrobs down in Texas, Jerry Lawler stirring up trouble in the Memphis area or the Gagnes taking care of business throughout Minnesota you couldn't go wrong. Thanks Vince McMahon...
remember this was back when wresting was real so it was like this, nice and realistic. Unlike now where people know its scripted that they do stupid outlandish unatural things

This was awesome. When wrestling was fun and you got some amazing workers and you never knew who was coming into town next. Those were the days.
