um fellas, it DOES matter what hand your indicator is in. If you wind up w/ your right hand to bang a guy out, and your indicator is in your right hand, IT MAY GO FLYING. Indicator should ALWAYS be in left hand. Furthermore, you really shouldn't carry one on the bases...it's nothing but a crutch, looks dumb, & screams rookie. Next you'll be saying how it's OK to give the OUT signal w/ your left hand. Maybe while giving the count from behind the plate we'll switch..strikes L hand & balls R hand
Absolutely right. And really, you shouldn't be saying "You're outa there!". All you have to do is call "Strike three!", everyone knows what that means, and make the out hand signal; with your RIGHT hand, which should NOT be holding the indicator.
The main reason why you cannot say "You're outta there!" is because what happens if the catcher drops the ball? Now the batter-runner is legally allowed to run to first (depending on how many outs there are and if first base is occupied), however the batter-runner will assume that the ball was caught and that he/she is out.
Absolutely, i hate watching my colleagues hold up two fists and say "full count". As a Wendelstedt graduate and a veteran umpire, the way i was taught and adhere to is to hold up three fingers on your left hand, and two fingers on your right, and say the count is three balls and two strikes loud and clear.
Be sure to put the indicator in your left hand...what a moron!!

First, indicators are manufactured to conform to the left hand.
Second, how would it look when it goes flying across the field when you call a guy out?

first off the correct way to say full count is 3 balls 2 stirkes. he dosent explain which hand should be the count either.
