it's just another myth about F22... in order to detect the target F22 must turn on own radar and after that its invisibility will disappear... the main purpose stealth technology is designed for is penetration of anti-aircraft systems defense...

I totally agree that stealth technology helps to decrease the risk of detection by any HF-band radar (but not L-band used by Russians). My only point is that in *active* mode (when F22 has turned on own radar) this fighter is not invisible anymore. Also I'm sure that any fighter should be able to fight efficiently at any distance and be manoeuvrable as much as possible (at least in order to dodge a missile).

L can track a plane regardless if its radar turned on or off. the only problem it isn't precise enough for targeting.. stealth form was originally designed against HF-band radars only.. my point when F22 turns on own radar it can be detected by HF-band radars used by missiles and can be hit.. "active" mode in pilot terminology means that fighter is actively looking for target using own radar.. as opposite to "passive" mode which allows to detect another radar beams..
As was shown in the Vietnam war, in combat it is not always the quality of the fighter but sometimes it is the number of them on hand. The Raptor is seriously expensive which seriously limits their numbers while the Russian fighters are more budget friendly.
@0917bobb In Vietnam the Vietnamese had better planes than us and way more of them but our pilots were way better and we were shooting them down at a ratio of like 1:17 so number the number of planes and the stats don't make the better air force pilots and training do.

Careful F-22 fans. That MiG-35 have what they call 3D thrust vector. The F-22 only has 2D. That 35 can thrust vector in pitch, roll and yaw. The 22 only in pitch and roll. But we have better pilots....

The Americans are afraid of Russia with good reason. Currently the usaf do not have any jet superior to the Sukhoi PAK FA T-50. Their only good jet is the F-15. The F-22 is deficient in almost all aspects unable to participate in real combat. The F-35 is totally inferior, the aerial turtle of Lockheed, fact the old F-14 Tomcat have better movements and combat capability than the F-35. The soviets have made many extravagent claims in the past; on how superior their fighter aircraft for example. We've been through 4 to 5 variants thay look a lot alike and claims of superiority have been claimed on each of them. If they're so superior why are they not in production anymore? And yet the soviets openly mock the F-15 and it variants on it 'inferiority' but as of yet, it hasn't lost a single air to air combat. Ask the Israelis how much better the F-15 and F16 are to any MIG.

Just using your numbers alone something seems off. The F-22 has 35,000 lbs / engine and has a T:W of 1.08 and the Mig-35 has 19,800 lbs / engine and a T:W of 1.03 and that's a WIN for us? seriously? Secondly, it's the technology Demo'd on the SU-37 and the capabilities of the SU-47 that SHOULD make us concerned. ALWAYS being superior? F-86 vs Mig 15 say otherwise. Complacency is our enemy. @SubZer0x4 My apologies for not being clearer. 35,000 lbs of thrust per engine, total of 70,000 lbs of thrust, to achieve a total Thrust to Weight ratio of 1.09 (per wiki, odds are the public numbers aren't 100% accurate anyway) compared to a MIG-35 19,800 lbs of thrust per engine, 39,600 total lbs of thrust, and it has a 1.03 Thrust to weight? Not a win in my opinion. Not sure how accurate these numbers even are for the 35, but just from these numbers NOT a win. <3 the F-22, but that's heavy.
Just wanted to clarify further, I do <3 the Raptor, but I personally prefer rational reasoning. 77 lbs per sq foot of wing-loading plus thrust vectoring along the pitch axis. Supercruise capability. First look first kill vs non-stealth opponents. It's foolish to underestimate Russian design capabilities. The MIG-15 was a COMPLETE shocker. In the end, Our pilot training program saved us then. Just cause we CAN win with inferior planes (F4F-4 vs A6M2) doesn't mean we should invite the scenario.
Also food for thought, for those who were NOT aware. In Dessert Storm our F-15 pilots were WARNED about the capabilities of the MIG-29. WARNINGS included the fact the MIG-29 could OUT CLIMB our F-15C's and that the MIG-29 has a faster turn RATE. Radius is only important if your trying to pull lead for a firing solution. RATE gets the upper hand in a turning battle. BTW, the MIG-15 could out climb the F-86. Think hard before developing a superiority complex. Russians aren't "light years" behind.

Well, the F-22 works with active stealth technology, while the MiG-35 works with passive stealth - which means that it keeps its stealth characteristics regardless of using RADAR.
Compared to that, the stealth characteristics of the F-22 are pretty useless these days, because either you fly with stealth OR you are ready to fight... AND the F-22 in full stealth mode can be detected by modern fighters such as the EF2000, the Rafale and many russian fighters.

@celpabedn Yeah 3D thrust vectoring is nice but Lockheed was aware that it existed when they made the F-22, so they obviously didn't see the need for it or left it off for a reason. Leaving something like that off isn't a desicion anyone would take lightly when the jet your building costs of 150 million dollars, so I don't think it was an accident.

My point was more to the fact that you can fit a larger radar unit and you cant hide behind stealth forever. It is already possible to detect , long range targeting is not far away if not already possible.

Fact is in the MMRCA competition the Mig 35 came in last place. Both the F-16 and 18 perfromed much better. The American planes sustained and instant turn rates were much better, and so was their avionic suites. The Mig performed well on top-end speed but that's about it.

I can remember when the usa was afraid of the mig-31 cause it could hit mach 3 and had all this advance technology. When it was really built in an attempt to intercept and shoot down the sr22 blackbird recon aircraft. The mig could get to mach 3 but the engines would need extensive service afterword and the sr22 would accelerate away from it anyway. The russians always think they got the best when the reality is they are trying to mimic the best "THE USA" of course the f22 wins!
it makes much more sense to compare Mig and F-35 since they are both the same category fighters...

I totally agree that stealth technology helps to decrease the risk of detection by any HF-band radar (but not L-band used by Russians). My only point is that in *active* mode (when F22 has turned on own radar) this fighter is not invisible anymore. Also I'm sure that any fighter should be able to fight efficiently at any distance and be manoeuvrable as much as possible (at least in order to dodge a missile).

L can track a plane regardless if its radar turned on or off. the only problem it isn't precise enough for targeting.. stealth form was originally designed against HF-band radars only.. my point when F22 turns on own radar it can be detected by HF-band radars used by missiles and can be hit.. "active" mode in pilot terminology means that fighter is actively looking for target using own radar.. as opposite to "passive" mode which allows to detect another radar beams..

As was shown in the Vietnam war, in combat it is not always the quality of the fighter but sometimes it is the number of them on hand. The Raptor is seriously expensive which seriously limits their numbers while the Russian fighters are more budget friendly.

The MiG-35 doesnt get close to the might of the F15. Also, we have the best trained pilots in the world. Everybody wants to be as good as American pilots. Jus look at the Blue Angles and the Thunderbirds. nobody flies smoother, tighter and better than those two groups!

They have faced off against air forces 2X there size and have come out on top. U.S. pilots are good but until Russia and the U.S. truly face off it is unclear who is better since both sides aircraft are excellent. No U.S. vs Chinese with equal forces the U.S. will destroy in seconds. Better pilots, better aircraft, more war experience.

The Americans are afraid of Russia with good reason. Currently the usaf do not have any jet superior to the Sukhoi PAK FA T-50. Their only good jet is the F-15. The F-22 is deficient in almost all aspects unable to participate in real combat. The F-35 is totally inferior, the aerial turtle of Lockheed, fact the old F-14 Tomcat have better movements and combat capability than the F-35. The purpose of the F-22 and F-35 is to steal money of U.S. taxpayer and U.S allies.

The soviets have made many extravagent claims in the past; on how superior their fighter aircraft for example. We've been through 4 to 5 variants thay look a lot alike and claims of superiority have been claimed on each of them. If they're so superior why are they not in production anymore? And yet the soviets openly mock the F-15 and it variants on it 'inferiority' but as of yet, it hasn't lost a single air to air combat. Ask the Israelis how much better the F-15 and F16 are to any MIG.

The USAD on the other hand has 5,573 aircraft 2,132 are fighters. And just to remind you, in an air war, majority of the flights are not undertaken by fighters but buy a huge number of support aircrafts which the USA have been doing in all its wars, Russia, didn't even have any major conflict in its portfolio.

Just using your numbers alone something seems off. The F-22 has 35,000 lbs / engine and has a T:W of 1.08 and the Mig-35 has 19,800 lbs / engine and a T:W of 1.03 and that's a WIN for us? seriously? Secondly, it's the technology Demo'd on the SU-37 and the capabilities of the SU-47 that SHOULD make us concerned. ALWAYS being superior? F-86 vs Mig 15 say otherwise. Complacency is our enemy. The F-15 is no longer able to dominate and it's time to start work on the 22's replacement for tomorrow...

@SubZer0x4 My apologies for not being clearer. 35,000 lbs of thrust per engine, total of 70,000 lbs of thrust, to achieve a total Thrust to Weight ratio of 1.09 (per wiki, odds are the public numbers aren't 100% accurate anyway) compared to a MIG-35 19,800 lbs of thrust per engine, 39,600 total lbs of thrust, and it has a 1.03 Thrust to weight? Not a win in my opinion. Not sure how accurate these numbers even are for the 35, but just from these numbers NOT a win. <3 the F-22, but that's heavy.

Just wanted to clarify further, I do <3 the Raptor, but I personally prefer rational reasoning. 77 lbs per sq foot of wing-loading plus thrust vectoring along the pitch axis. Supercruise capability. First look first kill vs non-stealth opponents. It's foolish to underestimate Russian design capabilities. The MIG-15 was a COMPLETE shocker. In the end, Our pilot training program saved us then. Just cause we CAN win with inferior planes (F4F-4 vs A6M2) doesn't mean we should invite the scenario.

Also food for thought, for those who were NOT aware. In Dessert Storm our F-15 pilots were WARNED about the capabilities of the MIG-29. WARNINGS included the fact the MIG-29 could OUT CLIMB our F-15C's and that the MIG-29 has a faster turn RATE. Radius is only important if your trying to pull lead for a firing solution. RATE gets the upper hand in a turning battle. BTW, the MIG-15 could out climb the F-86. Think hard before developing a superiority complex. Russians aren't "light years" behind.

Well, the F-22 works with active stealth technology, while the MiG-35 works with passive stealth - which means that it keeps its stealth characteristics regardless of using RADAR.
Compared to that, the stealth characteristics of the F-22 are pretty useless these days, because either you fly with stealth OR you are ready to fight... AND the F-22 in full stealth mode can be detected by modern fighters such as the EF2000, the Rafale and many russian fighters.

@celpabedn Yeah 3D thrust vectoring is nice but Lockheed was aware that it existed when they made the F-22, so they obviously didn't see the need for it or left it off for a reason. Leaving something like that off isn't a desicion anyone would take lightly when the jet your building costs of 150 million dollars, so I don't think it was an accident.

@nick74178ify That's incorrect. The ranges are about equal, for now. See Ibris-e or Zalson-M for details. Also, don't forget that the 400km range on the f22 is narrow band.
My point was more to the fact that you can fit a larger radar unit and you cant hide behind stealth forever. It is already possible to detect , long range targeting is not far away if not already possible.

Fact is in the MMRCA competition the Mig 35 came in last place. Both the F-16 and 18 perfromed much better. The American planes sustained and instant turn rates were much better, and so was their avionic suites. The Mig performed well on top-end speed but that's about it.

I can remember when the usa was afraid of the mig-31 cause it could hit mach 3 and had all this advance technology. When it was really built in an attempt to intercept and shoot down the sr22 blackbird recon aircraft. The mig could get to mach 3 but the engines would need extensive service afterword and the sr22 would accelerate away from it anyway. The russians always think they got the best when the reality is they are trying to mimic the best "THE USA" of course the f22 wins!
