  • Early rock had a lot of "novelty" songs, didn't it?

  • @stevemichaels2020

Yes, it did. Just yesterday my wife and I were in the car and "Along Came Jones" was playing. My wife wondered if there were any "fun" songs like that today. Since I don't listen to the current music, I don't know, but doubt there is anything quite like the stuff the Coasters did, or many other artists.

  • Good performance! Also love Dodie's "answer" to Elvis', Are You Lonesome Tonight. Her version is called Yes, I'm Lonesome Tonight.

  • @jjayFin -- just FYI .. here daughter is also a professional singer .. and the two of them perform together to this day.

  • @BDM55

Thanks, you beat me to it. I saw Dodie and her daughter in concert a couple years ago. Her daughter definitely is a professional singer. She and Dodie did some duets, and each did songs on their own. Both are very talented.

  • Never heard of her. Also, did she REALLY think it necessary to have her daughter up there as a back up singer when they had enough PROFESSIONAL back up singers up there. I mean, really.

  • @JJayFin When you have a number one hit that sold 3 million records you can criticize. And why wouldn't she have her daughter up there; her daughter is a professional singer. I mean, really.

  • I'm wondering, what would all you girls out there do if your boy friend showed up for a date dressed in clothes like the guy in the song has? Would you laugh or throw something at him? Would you go out in public with him? I would throw something at my boy friend and then take him to the nearest mental hospital.

  • OMG her daughter is a natural. Dodie actually answered one of my emails. Classy act, classy family..

    ..

  • I remember I was making my bed or something and this was on one of those oldie commercials. I wrote down some lyrics because it didn't say the name of the song. It's like two years later and I finally found that sheet of paper. Love it. It's just an innocent song haha

  • She looks so delicious !! Good song!

  • STILL HOT AFTER ALL THESE YEARS

  • Wow, she's still smok'n!

  • What a figure I was in the fifth grade when this came out, How old is she?

  • Looks good !

  • Wow-she sounds wonderful!!

  • It doesn't get aby better than this! :)

  • wooooow, i am listen to you from Colombia south america, thank for this video

  • Just wonderful! Dodie and daughter a couple nice looking gals, too. And the great sax solo... But.all these years I have wondered about that 12-foot yacht....

  • As a kid I never saw what she looked like, because this song came out in 1958 and I was born 2 years later. Wish I could have seen her when this was on the charts, because she looks like a serious hottie here, and this was a hit 40 years before this performance. She must have been amazing looking in '58! Thanks for posting this!

  • still looks hot

  • she looks great!

  • Happy Birthday Dodie!

  • I think DooWop Joe (he put the videos) can help you. Good Luck!

  • Great voice.. and terrific sax playin' too!

  • Where can I find this DVD.

  • @gabbie44tex

Other viewers have told me they have been able to buy this again, from a website called CFRVideos. The DVDs you want are Rock-n-Roll Graffiti.

  • @DooWopJoe Just bought through CFRVideos. Who is that playing the sax! Takes me back - way back...

  • @Tortie85

If you listen during the song, Dodie says his name--Jeff Schumacher-- right after his sax solo. Hope you enjoy the videos! I loved all their stories, as well as the singing. I hated to have it end!

  • @DooWopJoe Do I see Carl Gardner, Jimmy Clanton. Peggy March in the audience? Wow where was this!

  • @dfriend111

Yes, you do. Everyone in the audience (with just a couple exceptions) is a recording artist. I have uploaded many of the performances from this special, which was filmed in Nashville. If you subscribe to my name on YouTube, you can scan my videos for others from this show. You should be able to pick them out by the photos, and by looking for anything from Rock n Roll Graffiti. Enjoy!

  • Many thanks for your information and gentle manner. Good to know it.

  • wow! dodie...dodie...dodie.....how you have grown......!!!!! and that little girl of yours seems to be following in mom's footsteps and that ok with us......

  • She looks amazing 40 years later!

  • What a great video - she sounds as good as she did many years ago. Thanks for the posting.

  • Great video- thanks for sharing! Ron

  • i love this song!!

  • What an awesome, nostalgic and glorius collection. Thank you for sharing this with us.

  • One more information, please. That man with a moustache right in front... Is he Carl Dobkins Jr. from "My heart is an open book" fame? It seems that yes. If it is true, what a video you have! Is there anybody that I didn't recognize?

  • @castelobrancopaulo

Yes, that is Carl Dobkins, Jr and I have a video uploaded of him doing that song. Almost everyone in the audience is a recording artist, and I have uploaded videos of most of them. I suggest you go through my videos and look for the rest of them. I have no way of knowing who you recognize and who you don't.

  • @DooWopJoe

Anyway, I thank you. Unfortunately, I've only recognized the Carls (Gardner and Dobkins Jr.), since I was just trying to search Dodie Stevens on YouTube. Thanks one more time. (from Brazil)

  • @castelobrancopaulo -the guy in front is the late Gene Hughes of the Casinos (Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye)

  • @castelobrancopaulo Where can I find thi DVD?

  • I was very happy too, because that guy who speaks in the middle of the song is the same who speaks in the 50's/60 recordings. Great! Thanks for indicate to be true that Carl Gardner is present.

  • I don't know if I'm wrong, but that black man with dark glasses it seems to be the Great Carl Gardner , a The Coasters vocalist. If he is not Carl, however he is lookin' very well. (from Brazil)

  • @castelobrancopaulo

Yes, that is Carl. Look for his video of "Young Blood" that I have uploaded from this same special.

  • This pretty and talented singer is a pure example of how Dot was totally wrong. Dot didn't know handle her career. Dot did not understand the art of Dodie Stevens. Here in Brazil we only had one wonderful LP released (Pink Shoe Laces, 1961), nothing more... She could have been "The Queen" that Rock 'n' Roll never had.

  • "Hell" She's Still Hot!! As Ever She Was My Dream Girl Back Then And I Was So Much In Luv With Her LoL!!!

  • Dodie Stevens is my great aunt and Stephanie is my cousin...One of the best songs that she has ever done, sounds better than when she did when she was a kid...I love you Aunt!!!

  • Wow, what fun! Takes me back to those wonderful years. Doesn't she look great - and dig that killer sax.

    Thanks, Dodie!

  • Dang can not get any better than this !!!!! 1 million thanks for the up load !!!!! Makes me feel 50 years younger !!!!!

  • she still sounds great...

  • I remember when this was released ( yep, I'm a baby boomer!) learned the words straight away and have never forgotten them! Thanks Dodie, it would be a thrill for you with your daughter accompaning you on this, and thanks DooWopJoe........agree....best set of songs on utube!!!

Thanks, much, Kev, glad you like them!

  • That's a fun song!!!!Thank you for all these posts!!!Great stuff!!!!!

  • HI DODIE I LOVE THAT SONG DO YOU STILL PERFORM YOUR FRIEND LARRY

  • Outstanding..one of the best posts on YouTube.

  • Aha..! The song came out 1959... thats where Rap actualy came from! :-))

  • I´m allways unsure who sang or who wrote this song first: Dodie Stevens or the Chordettes?

  • @rockincarbonara

I believe Dodie did it first, and the Chordettes did a cover version.

  • She still hot boy!

  • She still looks and sings damn good!

  • @abuiltmale

Yeah, she does! I saw her and her daughter in concert last year, and they still look and sound great!

  • this was way before my time, but I love it. I recognize talent when I hear it.

  • wtf, this is awesome.

  • just a great rendition............the background vocals were a 12. great sax.........dodie stevens looks fantastic..... what a suprise, killer version, of this blast from the past.......nice post

  • This was the show in which lovely Dodie totally melted my heart. I finally got to see her perform in person for the first time this past February. She and her daughter look and sound so wonderful, and I had the pleasure of meeting them after the show. They were so sweet and Dodie signed my copy of the Pink Shoelaces album. I definitely had the time of my life at that show!

  • Dodie is still GREAT.

The sax is not too shabby either.

    THANKS FOR POSTING.

  • Great video, thanks for sharing.

  • I love Dodie. Most people only remember this song which was great - especially for a 13 year old but my favorite is Candy STore Blues. WOW!

  • I haven't heard this song since I was five, and I LOVE it! Thank you, Dodie for singing this song. I will be 47 next month and never realized that this song was fifty years old. I wish they would play it on our oldies station.

  • She still sounds and looks so amazing, love it!

  • i love this song
