Yes, it did. Just yesterday my wife and I were in the car and "Along Came Jones" was playing. My wife wondered if there were any "fun" songs like that today. Since I don't listen to the current music, I don't know, but doubt there is anything quite like the stuff the Coasters did, or many other artists.
Thanks, you beat me to it. I saw Dodie and her daughter in concert a couple years ago. Her daughter definitely is a professional singer. She and Dodie did some duets, and each did songs on their own. Both are very talented.
Never heard of her. Also, did she REALLY think it necessary to have her daughter up there as a back up singer when they had enough PROFESSIONAL back up singers up there. I mean, really.
@JJayFin When you have a number one hit that sold 3 million records you can criticize. And why wouldn't she have her daughter up there; her daughter is a professional singer. I mean, really.
I'm wondering, what would all you girls out there do if your boy friend showed up for a date dressed in clothes like the guy in the song has? Would you laugh or throw something at him? Would you go out in public with him? I would throw something at my boy friend and then take him to the nearest mental hospital.
I remember I was making my bed or something and this was on one of those oldie commercials. I wrote down some lyrics because it didn't say the name of the song. It's like two years later and I finally found that sheet of paper. Love it. It's just an innocent song haha
Just wonderful! Dodie and daughter a couple nice looking gals, too. And the great sax solo... But.all these years I have wondered about that 12-foot yacht....
As a kid I never saw what she looked like, because this song came out in 1958 and I was born 2 years later. Wish I could have seen her when this was on the charts, because she looks like a serious hottie here, and this was a hit 40 years before this performance. She must have been amazing looking in '58! Thanks for posting this!
If you listen during the song, Dodie says his name--Jeff Schumacher-- right after his sax solo. Hope you enjoy the videos! I loved all their stories, as well as the singing. I hated to have it end!
Yes, you do. Everyone in the audience (with just a couple exceptions) is a recording artist. I have uploaded many of the performances from this special, which was filmed in Nashville. If you subscribe to my name on YouTube, you can scan my videos for others from this show. You should be able to pick them out by the photos, and by looking for anything from Rock n Roll Graffiti. Enjoy!
wow! dodie...dodie...dodie.....how you have grown......!!!!! and that little girl of yours seems to be following in mom's footsteps and that ok with us......
One more information, please. That man with a moustache right in front... Is he Carl Dobkins Jr. from "My heart is an open book" fame? It seems that yes. If it is true, what a video you have! Is there anybody that I didn't recognize?
Yes, that is Carl Dobkins, Jr and I have a video uploaded of him doing that song. Almost everyone in the audience is a recording artist, and I have uploaded videos of most of them. I suggest you go through my videos and look for the rest of them. I have no way of knowing who you recognize and who you don't.
Anyway, I thank you. Unfortunately, I've only recognized the Carls (Gardner and Dobkins Jr.), since I was just trying to search Dodie Stevens on YouTube. Thanks one more time. (from Brazil)
I was very happy too, because that guy who speaks in the middle of the song is the same who speaks in the 50's/60 recordings. Great! Thanks for indicate to be true that Carl Gardner is present.
I don't know if I'm wrong, but that black man with dark glasses it seems to be the Great Carl Gardner , a The Coasters vocalist. If he is not Carl, however he is lookin' very well. (from Brazil)
This pretty and talented singer is a pure example of how Dot was totally wrong. Dot didn't know handle her career. Dot did not understand the art of Dodie Stevens. Here in Brazil we only had one wonderful LP released (Pink Shoe Laces, 1961), nothing more... She could have been "The Queen" that Rock 'n' Roll never had.
Dodie Stevens is my great aunt and Stephanie is my cousin...One of the best songs that she has ever done, sounds better than when she did when she was a kid...I love you Aunt!!!
I remember when this was released ( yep, I'm a baby boomer!) learned the words straight away and have never forgotten them! Thanks Dodie, it would be a thrill for you with your daughter accompaning you on this, and thanks DooWopJoe........agree....best set of songs on utube!!!
dodie, you are absolutely fantastic! and your song will go down forever in our hearts as one of rock and roll's greatest hits. and what a wonderful situation performing with your daughter. i hope you come to ft.lauderdale some day. or i might just have to fly to california to see you perform. i replayed this over and over. fantastic!
just a great rendition............the background vocals were a 12. great sax.........dodie stevens looks fantastic..... what a suprise, killer version, of this blast from the past.......nice post
This was the show in which lovely Dodie totally melted my heart. I finally got to see her perform in person for the first time this past February. She and her daughter look and sound so wonderful, and I had the pleasure of meeting them after the show. They were so sweet and Dodie signed my copy of the Pink Shoelaces album. I definitely had the time of my life at that show!
I haven't heard this song since I was five, and I LOVE it! Thank you, Dodie for singing this song. I will be 47 next month and never realized that this song was fifty years old. I wish they would play it on our oldies station.

On this date in 1959 {Feb. 16th} "Pink Shoe Laces" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100; eventually it peaked at No. 3 and spent 19 weeks in the Top 100
Ranked 15th on Billboard's Year-End Hot 100 Singles of 1959 chart
The day after this record entered the charts Dodie Stevens celebrated her 13th birthday...
In 1960 she reached No. 60 with "Yes, I'm Lonesome Tonight", an answer record to Elvis' "Are You Lonesome Tonght?"...
