You can check files and all that without searching the person's home or car. Files could be medical, mail, etc. Stuff all located elsewhere on some big supercomputer. For the house and car searches though, I'd still like to see a warrant.

personal space mostly. They can look up anything on a supercomputer (personally I think medical files and all that should be public record anyway). None of those files or anything is actually in my home. So for home, warrant.
But if they ever do find something on those records, they'd be granted a warrant. So as long as they search the computer first, we won't have to deal with the warrantless house searching.

I think its more that the most of the powerful politicians aren't really democrats or republicans they just claim to be and the party recognizes them because they're powerful and they want favors.

Any democrat who voted for this patriot act is not a liberal, since no one can believe in the guaranteed rights of the Constitution and still vote for warrantless searches.
