  • will this same method work on an original gameboy?

  • What light is this from? The micro?Sp? or Sp light? and so the quality of the screen is just as good as an sp it is just the camera right?? if so i hope and plan on doing this before the end of next year.

  • I tried this... but the light only lasted about two days and burnt out. i probably did something wrong, but its still kinda depressing... :(

  • what does a cracked screen have to do with anything?

  • I had it working, then I took it appart to place the front light better and now the gameboy won't turn on at all, I noticed one of my wires had snapped with moving the board around but shouldn't it only be the light that wouldn't turn on? I want to know if I fried my gameboy or if I just replace the wire I'll be fine. It's the ground wire btw.

  • WoW,This is certainly the best I've seen

  • So I did everything asaumably right, but the front light will not power on. Any help?

  • BAD ASS

  • I HAVE THAT GAME!!!

  • wow nice

  • As if gameboy didn't devour enough batteries now it's going to be a black hole that literally sucks up your double A's

  • @Genocide2242 10 hours of battery life is sucking up double A's to you?

  • @Genocide2242 buy rechargeable batteries lol

  • what happens if you dont use a resistor?

  • @potter944 The backlight will be very bright, then quickly dim out then die.

  • I have a tutorial on my site on how to do this. ChooChoobot(dot)com under the builds section. Props to mike on the original concept.

  • SELL ME ONE ON AMAZON!

  • Might wanna fix one of the image tags on your page. Remove the quotation mark at the end of the image link :) Thanks for the tutorial! Just one question, how much will it affect the battery? I mean like noticably, or it's just a few minutes play time?

  • I looked at your site, and this looks complicated for me, especially the soldering part which I have no experience doing.

How willing would you be to do this for payment if I sent you the necessary materials? (ie: a Gameboy Color and an extracted SP LCD w/ attached frontlight)

I'd find a GBC in better shape than the one I have though, so message me if you would and I'd get back to you when I had one.

  • Hey, this may sound like stupid question but what power soldering iron did you use (if you can remember) ? I'd like to do this mod, just a little scared of damaging the screen when soldering the ground wires on.

  • @smashingpumpkin1986 I've used a 45 watt, and also a 25 Watt in two different instances of doing the mod. They'll all be fine really, you aren't soldering to SMD chips or something.

  • @bibinson hehehehe...suck my d*ck chips...jking

  • Someone should mod and sell these on ebay. I'm way too clumsy and foolish to risk this on my current GBC but i'd happily buy one pre-modded

  • so in your directios you say to use a GBA SP for parts. Ould I just use the top screen of an original model DS?

  • You are the best!

  • Hi, on your site you said that to make sure the model is AGS-001, and not AGS-101. How come I can't use a AGS-101 as a backlight for gameboy color mod?

  • @BBoyDanKnee Different tab orientation.

  • I have that game, bought it for a buck off of some kid at a yard sale

  • Any way I could send you my gameboy color to get this mod I don't have the skills to do this.

  • What is the battery life with the frontlight?

  • How much would you normaly charge, if you do sell GBC's with a moded Front Light? I've already got a Purple GBC, and I'd reallllly love to have this done.

  • how long do batteries typically last with a backlight?

  • finally a really good tutorial. you should do a write up of a backlight for a gameboy advance too. i know i would love that!

  • Hey bibinson, just a quick question about the frontlight. Did you use a different LED which is pointed at the metal bar instead of the one that is from the GBA SP? The contrast on your screen is pretty good :)

If you did use an another LED, can you tell me what size it was? Thanks!

  • i would buy one of those, the picture is so clear compaird to the othere lit up gameboys

  • Hey mate, I'd like to purchase one. Do you have any for sale ?

  • Dude, I'd buy one are you selling em?

  • @therealxxtubbyxx I'd buy one too.

  • Tutorial is on mikejmoffitt . com

  • trying this in a few days once the resistors ship to me

keep reading your tutorial and opening my gameboy to get used to how to open it, looking pretty good, can't wait to get the resistors and them im set.

  • My god, why didnt you do this like 12 years ago, when i was training pokemons like crazy on pokemon gold xDD, and i stayed literaly until 1 or 2 am ): xDDD just joking, awesome work man, ill try it myself!

  • i fuckin love tht game played it while growin up

  • I WANT TO BUY THIS.

  • This looks great. Could you put the tutorial up again please?Im sure many people would greatly appreciate that.

  • @karkarey It's on mikejmoffitt . com

  • can you put the tutorial back up pleasee pleasee pleasee :(

  • No tutorial? REMOVED!?!

    In the words of Robotnik:

    WHY!?! WHY!?! WHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYY!?!

Oh yes, your Game By Color looks great. But did you re-post your guide somewhere else? Why did you take it down? =(

  • perfect!

  • Damn I screwed up, when I put the GBC back together I forgot to in push in the little things that hold the screen ribbon in place, so it popped out when I put it together. When I switched on my GBC the frontlight went on for 2 seconds and then died. The GBC still works but I think I fried the frontlight.

  • What?!?! where is the guide? i have been wanting to add a backlight to one of my gameboys FOREVERRRR, and yours is the best one i have ever seen.... please repost the guide..

  • Hey everyone! This is real pause the video and hold down the left arrow key for 3 seconds. You can play snake.

  • Two questions: Does having the front light on run down the battery a lot faster and do you have to use a GBA SP lcd??

  • Make a tutorial on how to dithering LED frontlight!!!!!!!! I'm NOT taking apart my SP for this

  • its too hard to find a gba sp ags-001 LOOOL

could you post up how you did it with the little bulbs?

and is it possible to do it with more bulbs than you did? maybe it doesnt fit ionno haha

ps..im the dude that sent a message to you but i just gave up on the sp thing cuz i cant find any at a decent price

  • impressive :)

  • i have a broken sp and a gameboy color im willing to try this with. never soldered anything in my life how difficult would you guys rate this???

  • It's easy, even if you've never held a soldering gun.

  • Either your GBC is small, or your hands are big...

BTW, is there somewhere to buy an SP lit-screen? I don't want to take apart my only SP, and I refuse to pay a whole lot more for another one, whether it be used.

  • that's coooooooooool

  • Where could i buy the screen? Please because i dont want to pay a SP, i just want to buy a seperate Screen for this.

  • working on this right now. Thanks for the great guide.

  • OMG!!! That is perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • that is the best gameboy mod ever!!!

    awesome!!!

  • Radioshack sells a huge pack of resistors at various values for cheap.

  • No. Read the video description. Why does nobody ever do that?

  • Hello. I have a cuestion. If i give a resistor with more REzistance About 50-55 OHM it will be a litle darker? I just think the light is little to bright?? Fix me if im wrong... Good mod !!

  • Yes, increasing more resistance will make it darker.

  • @bibinson Are you selling this?

  • @MannyDark Many made and sold.

  • You are doing God's work, my friend

  • dude how??!!

  • Why does nobody ever read the video description!

  • i do im just showing my disbelief i read all video descriptions

  • i have snapped the little cord on the sp light is there anything i can do

  • You can wire directly to the small LED, but it'll be tough.

  • how would i go about doing that and could i solder it back on

  • Teach us your masterful ways oh wizard Bibin!

  • Look at the guide I wrote in the video description!

  • what did u use as + voltage

  • There is 5V in the bottom of the board; I used a ~40Ω resistor on that.

  • Thank you =)

  • im going to attempt to copy this if you write a guide and it isnt to hard =) i cant wait!

  • wow amazing

  • Unbelievable! FANTASTIC work!
